Discussion:Issue 14: News, Information, & Updates!

Ok, the video was good. I laughed. I admit it.
But I still care very little for MA. It's not that i actively DISLIKE it, it's just, eh, not my thing. And frankly, we've known most of these details for a long time now. How about some information on the other stuff in I14... if there is any... any powers prolifiration? Any new contacts or tfs? new IO sets? anything besides this?
Or is this going to be a dud issue for me?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you are looking for stuff outside of MA, then yes, this will be vastly a dud issue for you. One of the devs even said that once players see what is there beyond MA they will be disappointed since anything else added is basically back end stuff for i15. Remember, MA was suppose to be in i13, but pulled to add in more stuff to it, so really i14 is more like i13b. You want the other stuff? That's what i13 was. A ray of hope from this is i15 should be coming Soon(tm).
[/ QUOTE ]
Also take into consideration what McBoo quoted for us earlier in the thread.
I'll only be disappointed if this issue doesn't result in a vast increase (in quality and variety, if not necessarily quantity) of content the dev's supply us. User made content is good, I'll be doing some of that myself, but I'm much more interested in what the talented team at NCSoft can do with a more flexible and accessible mission architect.
OK here is my question is this content going to be available in base and if so can it be linked to the otherwise useless supercomputer making it at least usable?
I am a little worried about the upcoming I14, here is my problem with it, I already have a hard time stepping away from the game to go to work, spend time with family, eat or sleep, so this just sounds like my CoX addition is going to worsen, do you think I can sue NCsoft for what it has done to me??????
Anyways in all seriousness, I can't wait for this next issue, I love this game and all this that I am reading about is getting me more and more excited, though it looks like it will take me even longer to level up my favorite toons with all the time I may spend on this new feature creating my own missions to go with some stories that I have given my toons

Heres another interview, from Allakhazam, some nice insights and apparently the devs will be using the MA to make missions in the future (and that when they get new tools for it, they will be passed onto the players).

Thank you Hero 1 for mentioning the Demorecord feature that some of us have been USING FOR AGES. Does this mean you guys will iron out some of the kinks in the thing?

As they've said many times before, closed beta helps them get things fixed better and faster. Rather than having a few thousand people on who just want to play, they have a smaller number who are actually interested in testing and helping make it better. Besides, it's not like it will stay closed all the way until release. You'll have your chance to try things out sooner or later.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because everyone in beta is a good tester, amirite? There are testers who might log in a few times just to keep themselves eligible for betas (and keep getting invited), and at any rate, logging in a few times to fiddle around with things isn't really testing.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."

So wait, if they start giving the playerbase 100% content and creative control, then what will be the reason for us to pay $14.95?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I do have a question though; if this goes into open beta (as opposed to going directly to live)... does the content created there go to the cross-server format (thereby being available as soon as live hits) or will 'test' *content have to be recreated once i14 goes active?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would imagine that, just like everything else made on the Test Server, that it will be completely separate from the Live servers. The Test Server has its own market server and global chat server separate from Live; I can't imagine the server that stores MA arcs and content would be any different from those.
[/ QUOTE ]
You forget, the arcs will be stored locally in your hard drive for testing purposes. So you don't have to recreate the arc -- just load the files you created on Test on your Live client, and publish it.

Duh, access to those tools. If you don't pay your $14.95, how are you going to use the Architect?

Um... New maps, new powersets, new zones, new dev created content and characters, UI and QoL improvements, new enhancements, new costumes, new mission types, new MA tools, new systems etc...
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Sorry guys I could care less about the MA so this issue so far holds no interest for me.

I like goofy obnoxious stuff, but I thought the video was lame. Is this what the super booster pack money is going to? Yuck.
Very excited about the MA now that I know we can customize an entire faction of enemies. My only concern is rewards. As cool as MA is, not getting normal rewards would make it useless IMO. I'll just cross m y fingers and see how it works when it comes out.

Just as you are free to stop paying $14.95 per month, NCNC is free to stop allowing you access to their servers.

I thought the video was pretty funny, and completely uninformative.
Fortunately, we've been getting some good information today from other sources. Unfortunately, one of my two worst fears about the Mission Architect has been realized, and the other is very likely to be realized. We won't get rewards for playing unpublished arcs, which means I'll have to swap out published arcs frequently, which detracts from the hall of fame or devs' choice awards. And it sounds like the more interesting unique maps may be unlockable rather than being available at start. I'm hoping to see a lot of the maps that I haven't seen before, but I may end up frustrated.
On the bright side, those are pretty weak "worst fears", and I'm very much looking forward to the Mission Architect.

I'm not sure why you think its not that simple. Stop paying your subscription, and you lose access to the game servers. With that, you also lose access to anyone elses MA content and you *also* lose the ability to play your own. Without access to the game servers, your custom missions are just a bunch of text files that you can't do much with (you cannot play or test player-created content "offline.")
The MA only allows you to *add* content to the game, it does not give you the ability to bypass actually *needing* the game to play content.

Because, after all, NOBODY can do anything in casual testing that might bring out a bug ("Hey, why do I keep crashing after placing that Arachnos flyer?")
Nope, the only worthwhile testers are the ones that can spend 20 hours a day at it!

Beeeecause, oh, maybe, THEY are still creating content?
Because without access to the servers, you can't play *any* content at all?
They are not "giving the playerbase 100% content and creative control." The IP, the official storylines, etc. are still in NC's control. This is *something extra to play with.*
Got it?
Not happy with that... *shrug* save yourself fifteen bucks a month.
