Ive seen bigger screw ups with content than this ( SWG NGE ). This isn't even in the same ball field. Give it a rest its a game, turn off your computer go outside and do something else. I doubt they'll release this issue in its current state because that's just bad business. Thing is still in beta, relax ya'll getting way to worked up over a video game.

How will they know what a ridiculous idea something is if we don't tell them?

@ UberGuy: Wow, okay. At least try to be right about your accusations before you sling them around.

@ Positron: Thanks so much for the update and allowing us to play OB. I can't wait to try it out, but I won't pass judgement 'til it's (at least near) live.

UberGuy, the random system is still in. You can purchase a random recipe at a level of your choosing for far less than you'll be paying for specific recipes that you're saving up for.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just quick math here.

Your chance of getting a valuable recipe is far less than 1 in 10. While the cost of choosing is better than 1 for 10.

So it never ever pays to roll the dice.

your always better choosing your recipe whether its to make money or use yourself.

Therefore the market will likely dry up for pool C and D, while purples will greatly increase in price as people have tons of leftover inf/inf

These changes are great.

The copy and paste thing I've been wanting for a long time.

I'm really liking the new direction PVP is taking, feels much more skill centered and less perfect build centered, but it clearly needs tweaking. I'm glad to hear you are making it a priority, you're absolutely right about it being ignored for too long.

The Merit System is a brilliant idea and while it doesn't restrict the, I guess, "play style" of farming, its a philosophy away from it. I like that.

Havent had a chance to try the villain epic stuff but I'm glad it was looked at and tweaked finally. Honestly, its been needing it for a long time.

I'm a little worried about Leveling Pacts and Dayjobs. Giving rewards for not playing the game always seemed weird to me. though they are the big new feature this issue. I don't dislike them, I just don't really "get it" i guess. Its equally puzzling when I see such systems in other games so I'm not really the target audience for this.

multi builds system will keep me gathering enhancements forever. it was hard enough with one build. I can see others getting a lot of use out of this though.

My search-fu is weak on this; please forgive.

What was the reasoning behind swapping out Ice Storm for Frost Breath on the Controller Ice Mastery set? Was Ice Storm considered too powerful, not powerful enough, the wrong kind of powerful?

Good day everyone!

Merit System:
Next up, we have a new Merit System for playing through content in the game. Players will no longer need to “farm” particular missions or Task Forces for a specific IO. Now you can accumulate Merits and simply purchase that IO outright from the new Merit Vendors sprinkled throughout Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Practically everything you do in the game earns you Merits now and the amount you earn is based on our datamines on how long particular things take to accomplish in our game. This means that really fast Task Forces or Trials will earn you fewer Merits than ones that take longer to complete. Merits don’t have a level associated with them either, so you can earn Merits in your low-level career, and save them up to purchase IOs that will be most useful when you are level 50. The choice is now in your hands, and out of the random drop tables these missions had previously.

Thank you for the notes. I do however have to express my utter frustration with what appears to be false advertisment and the classic bait and switch routine concerning the new merit system.

For the past several months the PUBLIC comments concerning this system have been these:

[ QUOTE ]
The last big addition to the game is called the Merit Rewards System: What this does is add an alternative reward system to Task Forces, Trials, Strike Forces, Raids, etc. At the end of the mission arc you will be able to choose either the set rewards for the arc or a Merit Reward, choosing a Merit Reward will give you a certain number of merit points that can be used to buy Enhancements, recipes, or other items you might want. The harder the mission arc, the more points you receive. This will allow people to save up for the reward they want, buy something random for a smaller output, or go with the normal choices. It could, however, take longer for someone to get the exact item they are looking for - Positron says this should work out in the end and keep everything balanced so as not to overflow the market.

Heres Positron’s word on the subject of Merits:

Basically:
Upon completing tasks in the game (Task Forces, Trials, etc.) you get an option of receiving Reward Merits instead of a normal reward. The number of merits is based on the difficulty of the mission, how long it takes to complete on average, etc. Thus things like the Katie Hannon TF have minimal merits associated with them, and things like the Shadow Shard Task Forces get bunches.
You can then trade those merits in for specific rewards, like recipes and the like, or trade in a smaller amount for random recipes if you feel lucky.
This should allow players who want to work towards a specific reward to be able to do so, but it will most likely take longer than the random rewarding of that item generated. This should keep the “value” of highly desired items in the Auction House (but most will likely see a fall in price). People still want instant gratification, and that is what the AH brings to those with the Inf. to spend.

[/ QUOTE ]

Obviously, what is on test is NOTHING close to what has been PUBLICALLY advertised for the past few months or even a hint that the system would be getting rid of the current end of TF drop. No it actually is saying just the OPPOSITE.

How do you explain what looks like the classic bait and switch false advertisment and lies that the software industry has been accused of in the past?

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

You need Hamidon Goo to make a teleporter? What!?!

[/ QUOTE ]
Yep
read this

[/ QUOTE ]

No, you do NOT. Please don't disseminate misinformation.

The telepad recipes are as follows:

Clockwork Winder, Temporal Sands, Simple Chemical, Psionic Manifestation

OR

Alchemical Silver, Symbol, Inert Gas, Black Blood of the Earth

OR

Ruby, Destiny, Silver, Hamidon Goo

There are three ways to build one. You only need Hamidon Goo if you're going for the third recipe.

Now, why on earth anyone would ever WANT to do that, I don't know, but there it is.

[ QUOTE ]
So 12 items are needed to make a base teleporter? The way those lists look, it seems to me like you only need one of those sets there.

[/ QUOTE ]

You only need ONE of the three available recipes, so you only need four pieces of salvage.

Is it intended that some of the Shield models(namely half of the elemental shields) are not available to Huge characters?

I have to say that the new PvP changes are super awesome sweet. Before i would PvP about 10% of my in-game time, but now i think that will drastically increase. And i PvP with my peacebringer too so things are much better now.

The thing about losin base salvage i dont like for a couple reasons. There is a small bit of lore and story on each peice that will be leavin the game at some point, that sucks. Ive been tryin to get at least one of each base salvage just to save for the little story on each, only a couple left hehe. Plus usin invention salvage is messin up the market im goin to guess. Also, if u got confused about the difference in base and invention salvage, then u got worse problems than tryin to build a base, hehe.

I'm so pleasently surprised we're getting all this for free.

EDIT :: I forgot to ask this, but should the Merit System be taken as an omen foretelling a time in the future when the game will be balanced according to IO's instead of SO's?

I believe that a Kheldian Gold Standard should be based on SO's, and for anything above that... there's Platinum!

Hopefully not, since the Merit system in its current state kinda clobbers the market for 'em.

Devs have stated that there are no plans to balance the game around IOs.

I would not be suprised to see some specific missions designed around them at some point.

I hope these future features will remain completely separate and optional. And that they won't involve PvE rewards.

At the very least, if this will ever change, I'm hoping that the TO/DO/SO system will be completely gone, and every reward will simply become common IO's, recipes and salvage. Maybe that's what they're planning in the long run...

Well, I'd love to try the open beta, but I'm having an issue. I copied my COH game folder and named the copy COH Test. I modified the updater exe shortcut to include -test. It still wants to reinstall the whole game, which would take around 14 hours and then some. I have a whole folder fo files for it to update from, why does it need to download EVERYTHING again? Can it not just update what I've already got? Is there no way to reduce the 14 hour download?

Posted

Mine is:

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Test\CohUpdater.exe" -test

With a start in:

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Test"

Make sure your target and start ins have the same relative path.

What u should do is:

Make the TEST copy, and allow it to makes its own folder and crap for CoHTest. Once it starts downloading the test stuff stop it. Copy and paste all your CoH Live files to the Test Folder and then re-run your CoHTest Updater...more than likely it'll "Fix" about 200mb of stuff but 200mb > 2.7GB DL

Not sure if this is the MOST effective way but its always what i do
