Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement

MMORPG.com responds to the recent news of changes to the next free expansions coming to City of Heroes with the re-naming of Issue 13 to "Power and Responsibility" and Issue 14 now being "Architect" with a Question and Answer interview. MMORPG.com writer Jon Wood discusses these changes with Executive Producer Brian Clayton and Lead Designer Matt Miller.

Here's an excerpt:

[ QUOTE ]
MMORPG.com:

Were you concerned that releasing the Mission Architect feature without the ability to create custom baddies would put people off of the system?

Brian Clayton:

No. However, unparalleled character customization is a hallmark of the City of Heroes franchise and after the great response we got from our community, we decided that it was worth the extra time to allow our players this level of character customization within the Mission Architect system. Really, it will only make this feature more compelling.

I'll finish the artical in a sec, I just wanted to be the 1st after LH!!!

If its broke, don't fix it... I like the chaos!

Honestly, I appreciate the decision. The fact that they listened to the player base and modified their plans to fit is a VERY good thing to hear.

Hm, more power in the hands of the people, I wonder how that'll turn out.

Its nice that it answers some of the questions people were having in Posi's thread about multibuilds, PvP rebalancing and Level pacts. I also approve of pushing the MA back a issue, and well, it'll only be a few months...

I would like to know more about the new story arcs though.....

Current Published Arcs

#2 "To Slay Sleeping Dragons" Arc #111486

From the article:

With two separate builds, will you have to outfit both builds separately with Enhancements? Won’t this end up increasing your costs?

Yes & Yes. This feature has been heavily requested by our player base and we’re excited to be the first MMO to make this feature available. That said if you are worried about your Inf. being drained by this, the system, like many others we have added, is completely optional. If you have never found yourself asking for a different, situational build then you don’t need to worry about this feature at all.

Buying and crafting IO's is already a tedious time sink. You may as well roll and level another character.

I gotta say, I'm not that pleased with finding out that we'll have to buy enhancers for each character build ... especially since most of my often-played characters are red-side, and the black market is insanely out of whack a lot of the time.

Here's hoping that I won't have to grind TFs for months on end just to earn enough merits to get a specific IO recipe I need.

Very lame.

While I appreciate the dual-build option, the necessity of all-new enhancements puts a definite damper on it.

You guys realize WHY that had to happen right?

You got yourself a purped out toon, and than you use the dual build option.

Ta-da, you now have 2x those purples. Now just respec and ROLL IN THE DOUGH!

So yeah, you guys should have been expecting that. And its really not that big of a deal. I'll prob have SO's and cheap sets for PvE, and save the good stuff for PvP.

I think that seems like a fair trade. Aren't the IO sets most helpful in PvP? I don't see why people wouldn't make the PvP build the one with the more expensive set pieces and use regular IOs or even SOs in the PvE build. That seems like an efficient and cost-effective way to do it.

Isn't the 'dual-build' function already a mechanic in the Tabula Rasa MMO; ie., cloning?

Anyway, I do like the option for dualling... it means that I save an entire character creation slot when confronted with the dillemma of having two builds for one specific powerset combo.

I am sad that The Architect has been pushed back.... being that was the feature I was most looking forward to and being that it was the big feature that was being pushed at us.

Oh well, we'll see if the torches and pitchforks come out...

Probably other reason than that - after all, if an IO could be used in both builds, ifyou sold it from one it would be gone in the other!

A big chunk of the reasoning is probably system simplicity - having them separate keeps things simple for the developers and players. In a respec, we've got 10 storage slots, and that's it. How would you manage a shared system? What about IO's that couldn't be used in both builds? Complexity in a game that tries to avoid complexity.

Personally I'm glad that the "reason" they decided TO wait is because they just weren't ready. I would much rather they release with full intention of it working the way it should then rushing to get it out. Hat's off to you guys, and thank for the update!

This is a great point! Additionally, it may bring more people into the PvP realm. One of the reasons I don't want to PvP is because I built characters for PvE, which is where I spend all my time. I didn't want to respec out of builds I love in PvE just to try PvP a little or spend maybe 10-20 percent of my time. Giving me the ability to create a PvP build without having to sacrifice the build I love may be enough to get me interested and into a PvP zone.

You can't PvP with no one to PvP with, so it makes sense that more people willing to try it is a good thing. I can't believe I am the only one who would be more willing to get in there and try it out now that I won't have to alter my character to do it.

While I can see justifications, I don't know that I'll use it now.

...as far as the doubling of IO and enhancement spending goes; I think that the merit system will help ease that burden quite a bit.

(That is, if both builds have access to the same storage pool)

<QR>

I'm glad this article is out there, as it adds more information to Positron's post this morning. As tedious as it sounds to build two different builds with two different enhancement pools (it's for those who really want it, and that's the price), I am glad to read up on how Level Pacts will work (especially with the elaboration from pohsyb's post). Thanks for linking this up to the forums LH.

Good point...and those with a lot of disposable income and/or vet respecs could respec time-and-time again.

Exactly.

So, the ideal scenario would be:

1. Respec your 50 for a pure PvP build keeping all your expensive IOs, although, you might wind up pulling out a few expensive IOs in the process that can be given to the alt build.

2. Create your second and pure PvE build using the cheap and common IOs for frankenslotting. This is cheaper than SOs and gives more overall enhancement of aspects than SOs!

Alternatively, you can create a level 50 PvP build an a level 30 level PvP build if all you do is PvP with that toon. No more compromises of putting low level IOs in level 50 toons just in case you want to play it exemped down.

Not to mention, it's not just the enhancements.

You can focus on the powers within your powersets for one purpose or the other. Your Team build would have more team-useful powers, while your Solo build would have powers that were more useful in that role. You could possibly even pick different Power Pools or Epic/Patron Pools for each build.

In the case of HEATS or VEATS, the two builds could be extremely different...

.... this is sounding REALLY wild.
