I also found that the presents are somewhat hard to find, and I was on at 4am Eastern. Maybe for next year they could be dynamically spawning destructible objects with 1 hp. It would be even better if there is a way to make them immune to all ranged powers to level the playing field. That way you could rip into the present in style.

Have presents been changed for an automatic naughty if a zone is too low?

I ran around and got a dozen+ in AP this morning early, and got all naughties...

I am getting this too, on my lowbie brute I have opened about 50 presents so far and all were naughty. I am about to give up on this. Also about 1/4 baby new year missions are not completeable. As soon as you exit the cave with him he just runs off into the forrest never to be seen or heard from again. This seriously needs to be check. I know my team reseted like twice and it still kept happening.

Regarding the overly large amount of 'naughty" presents, the same thing happened last night to me; I had my level 32 running around KR, Atlas, Steel and Talos (tried Dark Astoria, no joy for any presents there) and of the 30 presents I opened, 27 of them were naughty. I've tried being a good superhero, but dang! At least give me a 50/50 shot at being nice! I was quickly irritated at this and am about to give up on present hunting altogether.

I tried to present-hunt in the more level appropriate spots (bricks, Crey's etc), but I couldn't find any presents, or if I did find one, they were quickly attacked by "klingons" that followed me around and jumped on my presents before I could open them.

I think the villain that cross circuited the servers to give us an extra prestige bonus for our SGs earlier last week also messed with the winter event present "naught/nice" ratio.

A plot? A conspiracy? Hmmmm....

If I'm just a victim of circumstance, so be it. It is, after all, a game. It's just that for the first time ever in this game, I was disappointed about a game/event feature.

Regardless, Happy Holidays all! Enjoy the snow in Pocket D; it only opens for a limited time every year!

Interesting - I ran around AP on my 50 for a bit since I was there and the zone was quiet - 12, maybe 20 presents - all Naughties.

Went to PI, got 6 naughties, opened a few more dozen and a healthy ratio of presents etc.

I can understand if something was tweaked in code for zone levels, but if so (after all Halloween is zone: level specific) just let us know.....

I had the same problem on my first run. Finally with going back in and out of the door I found him again. On my next 3 runs I was sure to turn off all sprints. If you are running slow you will not lose him.

Just like last year. It's the same bug as the elevator bug that has been oft reported.

Yes thank you.

I PMed you some details. I urge the others from different servers who saw this sort of behaviour to do the same.

The problem I had with the ski runs yesterday was lag spikes (when I normally don't lag in game, these were bad enough to make other players 'warp' around the zone on me) that made it even harder than usual to steer down the slopes and the sheer number of people trying the runs. The number of people plus the power fx of speedboosts, sprints, etc. makes it hard to see where your going. Zoomed out helped some but that made the lag worse and didn't stop all the bumps knocking me just outside a gate as another player zipped by. I also had times where I had to go through a gate 2-4 times before it registered that I got it, and this was while on the surface going through the middl of the gate, not on the side or flying above the ground. My best time is still only 43 seconds and that was by using fly to fly through all the gates.

As players are talking about in this thread if you obtained those powers last year, you can get the powers again through the candy canes. I'm still trying to get clarity on that issue, as that functionality was not laid out in the design documents for this year's event.

[/ QUOTE ]

this plain sucks. Yet another slap in the face - after last years debacle of having 35 alts get the powers and have them all nerfed AFTERWARDS. Now I pay for it again.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure you're mad and the right mad thing?

Yes, you can't renew Golden Rings or the Self-Rez Lights Something power by doing Father Time missions, but you most definitely get those powers again, plus every other temp power, through the Candy Cane currency.

Jump boosts are all you need. I got 20.38 on a level 6 tanker with inertial reduction and no sprint.
That was too easy.

After many attempts, I eventually got gold running with just SJ and Sprint. For the gold run, I didn't use SJ at all, it was just rocketing down the mountain.

When I first tried the ski slope, I thought it was really hard. But I noticed that I got better and better at it, and eventually got the gold. It's like Guitar Hero: hard at first, but easier with practice.

Ultimately, I really enjoyed the ski slope and its badges. Now, had I not seen that quick progress, I'd have been frustrated. All in all, it took three or four sessions of practice before I got it. (Though maybe it was the break I took to make a winter costume. I got silver on the run right after I did that. ;-) )

Mine was my 12th run and only the 4th after using the zero-g pack or inertial reduction.
I now get gold by a good few second every time, so long as I'm not blinded by some guy missing the gate with his huge super speed tail. I went faster than the guy with super speed and all I had was the zero-g pack and sprint was off.

Lighthouse, please pass this along to all the Developers and QA staff:

If the mini game's time requires a special power to achieve success, then that power should have been introduced as a power you can purchase. They introduced the Candy Keeper, and a temp jump power could have been made available. Unfortunately thanks to lag, the amount of people in the zone, and people's computer limitations, at this point the ski run seems to need some sort of jump ability to get the gold. Thanks to the speed cap Flight, even with level 50 IOs and the empowerment buffs, the fastest time down the slopes is 32-33 seconds.

If the goal of the developers was something everyone could do, then I would humbly suggest that the developers simulate their test bed at around 10 FPS, using only unslotted sprint and change the times accordingly. As it is lag and a few other issues are causing far more frustration than is needed.

As it is, the people with Jump powers have a distinct advantage, followed by the Super Speedsters, while those with Flight are limited to silver, and the people with Teleport or no travel powers need not apply.

Perhaps in the future, there would be alternate speed "runs" like a Floating obstacle course that needed flight, a different course for Teleporters, and a ground course for people with super speed. Have the same medals for all "events" and that way people would have a choice as to what course they would like without stress. Isn't it the point of playing the game to relieve stress? Especially at this time of year?

While the staff probably has spent weeks "practicing" going down the slopes, most people will probably get under 24 hours of playtime throughout the event.

Overall the ski run mini game still needs work. Please fix for next year.

I defy anyone to beat my time of 94.38 seconds.

I was skiing yesterday, or maybe earlier this morning, but either way it doesn't change the issue...

I hit the 35:00 second mark twice while skiing, and didn't get the badge for the silver medal. Is it supposed to be 35:00 seconds or less than 35:00 seconds?
Anyway, I put in a bug report, but it doesn't help that I don't think I will be able to beat that mark, or at least not beat it by much. I know I am not entitled to the badges or anything, but all the same, if I take all that time to try and get a hang of the course, and actually manage to execute a good run, it would be nice if I got them when I was supposed to.

It may well be something that not everyone is going to get by just going there and doing it. Gold is designed to be a challenge. If you aren't interested in working at it, then you won't get it. Not all badges are for everyone, sorry.

I hate to say it, but I agree. IR is not necessary, but once you get a hang of it, it really does help.

Further, I don't heal on some ATs so I can never get the heal badge, does that mean I should be given a heal temp power so I can get those badges?

No.

While I feel the frustration, I still have managed to get the gold on one character. I have gotten the bronze and silver on a few others. I still have two characters I want the badges on, and will continue to attempt to get them. However, I will resent the badges if I have to respec my character to succeed in the gold.

The main point was to provide some constructive criticism, and some suggestions to improve the event game(s) for next year.

Bullet points of the above quoted post:
* Understand not everyone has a top of the line computer.
* Provide a purchasable superjump temp power.
And/Or:
* Make alternate speed runs for different powers. This way no one would have to choose to respec their character to get the badges.

Finally, in setting challenges, learn from other games mistakes and make sure that debugging doesn't set the challenge level beyond what is intended.

Point of clarity: ATs that can't heal in their primary/secondary/APP/Patron pools can take the medicine pool. No temp power needed. ((edit: yes, people can respec into the leaping pool. It is just that those wanting the heal badges tend to not respec twice in one day just to get 1-3 badges.))

Second, the event is [u]supposed[u] to be [u]fun[u]. Well, from reading these forums, it seems like the developers have missed the mark when it comes to the ski badges.

From reading these comments, I take it those five or twenty Kinetics folks I see constantly buffing people on the slopes are just hallucinations, and that Gold badge I got on my level 10 blaster is just a figment of my imagination?

Huh...
