I tend to feel the same about the Ski Trials. My prime badger secured the 3 Ski badges after....a lot... of runs for the gold.
As to the presents being a discouragement for teaming...well the only way to get Winter Lord to come out and play is on a team of 4 or more and getting a naughty present (thats how it was in 2006, I doubt it changed)....so you have to team for that aspect. Although.....whoever opens the present is suddenly standing under the WL.... 
As to the Ski badges, yeah speed boost was nice.....but i found Inertial Reduction to be nicer....
I have a question about the holiday 'gift' powers, specifically Holiday Spirit, and I'm not sure where to ask it. The prize grants debt protection for 48 hours of gameplay when used. Being a player with a lot of alts, I still have multiple alts (okay, the majority of my alts), still running Holiday Spirit from LAST year. IE, they haven't been played 48 hours yet all year. Does the new Holiday Cheer 'stack,' or do I just hold on to it until last year's runs out?

Im uncertain if it stacks but i would err on the side of caution and let the old one run out.
Ok, I can no longer get the timer to start for the ski run on my current character. Tried selecting different missions, relogging, still nothing. There isn't a limited number of time you can try it is there?
Edit: I entered a baby new year mission with the timer still running, wonder if that messed it up.
and an SG known for griefing hami raids has already set up 'blockers' in key gates
Hurricane, lightning storms - you name it to create lag and distraction.
Any chance there could be an out and out statement about this LH, ie being an actionable /suspension offense. (suspension on the account at least for the duration of the event)

No you can ski until you are blue in the face If the timer isnt starting then the game thinks you have an old run still going, simply go thru all the gates, laugh at the ridiculously long time you have obtained and then start anew. This happened to me today after I mapserverd

I agree with this. There is no reason for people to be out there spoiling the event for others or thinking that "They" own the ski slope and can dictate who can ski and who cannot.
"Griefing" is specifically prohibited in the ToS. Since there is no legal definition of "griefing", one need only convince the Powers that Be that messing with the ski slopes is "griefing".
Which would be one heck of a lot easier and clearer if LH just came out and said that.
There is no valid reason for sitting in the gate at the tightest turn with lots of flashy FX going off.

But seriously, it's too bad more time couldn't be spent doing some tweaks to the even this year. Changes for next year should include making the present-spawned Snow Beasts level-less (ala the Rikti invasions), and having them randomly drop Candy Canes upon defeat, in the same fashion as Merits (you could even tie it to a Winter badge just like Merits are tied to a Vanguard badge).

Also note: While leaving behind Snow Creatures at where a Present spawns is a bit anti-social, remember that last year (and this year) there was a change: If a new Present spawns with an old spawn of Snow Creatures, then the Snow Creatures will automatically despawn when you approach the present.
This way, there aren't any Snow Creatures 'camping' Present.
Also note: Playing at peak times is rough for Present collection. If you can play very late at night, early in the morning, or during school hours; then you'll have a much easier time of Present and Candy Cane collection.
Also note: If there's currently too much competition for the Presents -- a newly and quickly made disposable toon logging on directly into Atlas, Galaxy, or Mercy can immediately gift another toon with the Holiday Cheer present. Then that slot can be deleted and remade for another gift... So, grab a friend or second account and make the gifts that keep giving.

Run across a skiing bug and a couple other in my sg have as well.
If you enter a mission or zone out of Pocket D while your ski counter is still going you will be unable to ski again. It will not start your timer when you go through the first gate. This persists through a logoff and login.
The fix seems to be you go ahead and start the run like normal. And even though it doesn't start, it technically does start. You hit all the gates and get a "run complete" message. Then you can re-ski like normal.

Ya, this happened to me this morning. Once I figured out what to do though, I was very impressed with my 99:59 run time. I want like a falling apart rusted through copper medal for that or something.

I had this problem happen to me as well. It cleared up when I did the run again, even though I didn't have a timer or waypoints. Basically just do the run without a timer to get a 'race complete' and it will reset.

We've been hearing a few complaints about the ski run not starting. If this happens to you, then the above trick of re-running the ski slope, even though the waypoints aren't working, may work for you.
Also, be sure of a couple of things:
<ul type="square">[*] You are on the Expert Slope. There are no timed runs on the bunny slope.
[*] You aren't currently still running a ski run. The ski run has a 2 minute timer before it resets. I know from personal experience that it's easy to go down and miss a set of poles along the way, get to the bottom, wonder what's up and think it's busted because I missed a waypoint. You can tell that the ski run is still running by the 2 minute countdown timer that shows up in the "Nav" UI element.[/list]

As players are talking about in this thread if you obtained those powers last year, you can get the powers again through the candy canes. I'm still trying to get clarity on that issue, as that functionality was not laid out in the design documents for this year's event.

ok, LH, you've replied to two issues here very quickly but why no statement on the possible griefing? That's what a lot of us really want to know

Y'know, the ones with the helicopter mission to the opposite faction's base to steal/retrieve presents...

The chopper mish was fun, but we at least have the badges from 2005 back in this one, they just need to be crafted.
