Discussion: NCsoft Acquires City of Heroes!

One thing that I hope comes about from this...

Some actual advertising.

While I don't want CoX to hit WoW numbers (and the associated increase in jerks:non-jerks ratio), it would definitely be nice to see some fresh blood.

Things like Who Wants to be a Superhero and Heroes are so obvious venues for a TV spot or something. "Hey, you're watching superheroes, why not play one?"

Nah. I own GvE and I don't feel unappreciated or unfairly treated at all. OTOH, I'm old enough that grew up before the current culture of entitlement settled in.

Or, it could just be that I grew up.

Patriot_America,

AGAIN, you paid for development up to this point. I bought CoH alone. I bough CoV pre-order and Full. I bought the GvE goodies off the website.

No, I do NOT see the unfairness you speak of. You paid for a product. You got it. Now others are getting it.

Some folks waited until CoH was 20 bucks to buy it. I paid 50. Same for CoV and pre-order. Did you see me griping about folks getting it for 20? Nope.

Be well, people of CoH.

A thought grossed my mind, of giving everyone who owns both games, a free month of game play.. but I can see where that might be.. expensive on your end..

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I understand your point, even if I don't agree with it. (And understand, I'm in the same situation you are in.)

For spending the money on both CoH and CoV a year or more ago you gained the advantage of being able to play the FULL game for the past year (or more). In addition, you were already given a free month of game play when you added CoV to your CoH subscription.

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, and some of you may even feel that I am being a greedy [censored] for asking this.. but I see that people who don't own both games will be granted access to the other... well thats all well and fine..

... but what about those of us.. who, like myself, bought CoV when it launched. I spent $80 on the Collector's DvD Edition.. granted I know I will never see a penny of that back from you guys.. but frankly I'm not all that into CoV..

Had I known then, what I know now. That you would offer me the features from CoV.. I would have saved myself $80..

Look at it this way: You paid to have access to CoV and bases two years earlier than everyone else.

Really though, you don't get money returned to you when stores have a sale or discount on items you've previously purchased. You don't get reimbursed when the same store has "free give-away" day. You bought the item TWO YEARS AGO. Think about it seriously now.

Exactly. I am really pissed about this, there needs to be some form of compensation for those who did buy both games. Like maybe a free month or2 or something because this is totally unfair to those who spent their hard earned money on both games.

Seriously....Some of you could find something to complain about in a wet dream...

Having to change the sheets?

On topic: Am I the only one who thought that EvilRyu was being sarcastic, since actually buying those boxes got you a free month of each game already?

Someone probably already pointed that out. I'm just too lazy to read all the way through. Bad me.

I look forward to seeing how the game progresses. Keeping the core teams intact and having more resources to support the game only seem like good things to me. If they eventually put out a new box or sequel, I'll probably buy that, too. I'm a believer in this team, and if new management follows through on their commitment to the game, I don't see a downside.

Congrats, new NCSoft folks. Old NCSoft folks - good acquisition. Best of luck to all of you.

Meh. Some teenagers can be quite mature and act like reasonable, rational people. Conversly, some adults can be some of the most frothing at the mouth, irrational idiots in the world.

The game is rated "T for Teen" after all.

This definitely is a hole in one for all COH/COV fans. I need time to really go back and look at ideas and suggestions devs have had that were put aside for development reasons. I can see many of those now coming to the surface with this announcement.

I can imagine how difficult the decision was for Statesman to leave this project. It is comforting to know the Posi and many other old skool devs are moving upscale with all of us along for the ride.

The Powers That Be are celebrating a changing of the guard with some freebies to the population. That's nice of them. I don't find any personal utility in any of these freebies. That doesn't change the fact that they're doing a nice thing. I don't have to benefit from everything my neighbor gets.

When someone brings brownies with walnuts to work and brings me one, I say "Thank you!" even though I DESPISE walnuts.

When I was 8, I got upset on my brother's birthday because I didn't get any presents, but I didn't think twice on MY birthday when he got diddly-squat. I'd like to think I've gotten past that.

YMMV

A note on the granting access to both versions of the game. The actual number of players who will benefit from this goodwill gift is not as high as most would speculate. We certainly appreciate the support of our subscribers and we hope to be making announcements soon that will benefit all characters in both COH & COV.

We hope our granting access to both sides isn't an issue of we don't care about you as players. We do care and we have great things that everyone will be able to use coming soon.

This was more of a celebratory gift to any of our subscribers who had not yet ventured on to both sides of the game.

In the end...Villains rule though and don't you forget it!

This is interesting news and especially annoying if you paid to buy CoV for the extra slots and access to V within the past couple of days. I wonder what kind of compensation those people will get as a result of this because they bought something that they /really didn't need to buy/? (This isn't me, but someone I know.)

Yes, CoV is still for sale on the PlayNC Site, I just checked. Very annoying.

Your argument is so flawed. You paid for a product that, through time, depreciates in value. I also paid for the same edition of the game, which is now quite cheap to purchase. Should they reimburse us? Nope. I purchased their game of my own free will and have enjoyed playing. I think it is great that they are opening up both sides to everyone.

This sounds like nothing more than greed to me.

I've only read abut half of this thread, but the main issue that some have seems to be people gettting the other half of the game for free.

I can understand someone who just recently bought both sides of the game being a little upset, however I do not see why long term players are upset. This situationion is just like if you bought a new car back in 2005 and had to puy extra for a 6 disk CD changer as an option. Now the new 2007 models come with the 6 disk CD changer as standard equipment. The car manufacturer does not owe anything to the buyers of 2005 models, NCSfot really does not owe anything to long time players because of this new policy since you have already gotten 2 plus yreas of enjoyment out of COX and got 2 free months from buying both boxes.

Since NCSOft has been RUNNING the game all along, I guess I don't expect much to really change.

My only concern is, we really need to get better support. the standard boilerplate answers to petitions and support questions needs to be upgraded - most issues I've had to demand be escalated to a senior support rep before anyone even UNDERSTOOD it properly.

So, um, yeah, bring some of that to NorCal too, while you're at it.

They get nothing. They deserve nothing. They paid for a product and got it.

Of course CoV is still on sale. Some folks want the Villain splash screen instead of the other one.

After this, it won't matter what you buy. You get the same game buying either CoV or CoH, and if you buy the GvE edition, you get the extra goodies that come with it.

All can be found for 20 or less at your local store.

Obviously, there are exceptions in both groups, but the large majority of teenagers are stunningly immature. Trust me--I spend more time with them than I would like.
