But if I ever once - ONCE - smell "raid"; I quit. End of discussion.

This is exactly what I'd like to see more of. We just need more stuff to do. The real prob imho with raids in other games has been the loot tables and not everyone getting something. CoX doesn't have that prob. Everyone that participates in a raid gets the payoff. So I say bring more raids please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? What % of the population is doing Hami raids? What about the LRSF and STF? I'm betting the % is even smaller than even I expect.
Why waste time on events that the majority don't find fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
How about making them fun?
Improving the Raid experience is only one of many things they could add to the game to increase it's overall appeal. I see no reason to torch the "Raids" idea to the ground because they aren't as popular as fairy wings, renewable temp powers or yet another alt.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll compromise with ya. If they can make the 3 end game raids remotely fun, I'll back future new raids. Fair enough?
[/ QUOTE ]
And if some think they're fun already, then what?
I'll back more raids right now, sight unseen. Give me more stuff for Smoke to blow up. I'm completely and utterly stoked about this entire thing.
Then again, I'd also like to see a significant amount of attention be given to PvP....

Ok, what I don't get is why everyone is saying that the game is changing hands?
From the press release... [ QUOTE ]
The announcement comes as the company begins a renewed push to further develop the City of Heroes® property, which is now 100 percent owned by NCsoft. Previous to today, ownership of the intellectual property (IP) was split between NCsoft and Cryptic Studios, the original developer of the project.
[/ QUOTE ]
NCSoft has had partial ownership of the game for a long time now. There is no ownership change, basically its known as consolidation under one of the owners while the other goes on to do their own thing at this point. With the current Dev team staying with the game, we should not have much to worry about.

Agreed!
On our little server of Protector, with the old hami raid, we had weekly/bi-weekly raids.
Now, we've had less than 10 organized raids since release, half of which were in the first month.

Justice is still doing regular raids and the global channels set up for such are always pimping a TF or other such event.
Hami has slowed down, sure, but he's still getting a royal butt whooping on the regular.

Heh, CoX has gotten this far by doing everything bass ackwards (a smooth launch, a 'lootless' MMO, character customization early and free, sidekicking) so it would not surprise me if they were the first guys to be swallowed up by another company and actually IMPROVE in the bargain.

I agree, DJS, and I know that there are plenty of players that enjoy doing them, my brother being one of those people. But what I don't see is a large percentage of the population doing them. It seems to be the same folks over and over with the occasional "my turn to try it" person added in.
Granted, I do live on low pop servers, and this will affect my perceptions.
Just seems to me that this is a prime time to get back into the swing of fixing bad decisions.
Creating an event where you either need an ideal team or be loaded up with shivans and bombs does not promote global enjoyment. Nor, apparently, does an event where you go through the same attack phase 3 times, probably dying 3 times, over X amount of time.
My hope for this change in ownership is that we can move forward with fixing long standing problems with design decisions and technology.
Be well, people of CoH.
I always thought NCSoft owned CoX and Cryptics from the beginning anyways...
It's to early to know now, but I think CoX's future will be a positive one.

I think the biggest thing we as players will see from all of this is in customer service. With everything now under one roof completely, the support staff is no long split up.
I think most everything else will be the same at least for the next few issues.

According to the press release the IP for CoX was split between NCSoft and Cryptic. The IP now falls completely under NCsoft.

Hamidon... RWZ... what is the third raid I'm missing?
Can't speak for the new Hamidon as I haven't done it, but I find the RWZ to be a lot of fun. Seems a lot of people, particularly on my server, do as well.

The majority don't find fun? I think you're on the wrong side of that total imho. Raids are great places to get to know your community and have fun.

I've been in business units involved in acquisitions before, both as the acquirer and as the acquired. This could go very well for us as subscribers, very poorly, or unnoticeably. Judging by statements to effect of "we've got big plans" I don't think it will be unnoticeably.
I'm leaning toward hope over despair. In my experience, being acquired by another business unit that has in the past been intimately involved in your major efforts, if not your day-to-day operations, means the acquirer is coming into the deal with their eyes open and few or no misconceptions. When said acquirer also brings deeper pockets than yours and Ideas, then exciting times are almost certainly ahead.

I think the difference worth pointing out here is that if this weren't taking place, you'd have the conflict of interest created by MUO hanging over the future of CoH like the sword of Damocles. That would have been the road of certain despair (and DOOOOOOM).
Exactly where the branches lead from here remain to be seen, of course, but I think it is the necessary way to go for the possibility of a good future for COH.

To be honest... I would really like SOME sort of compesation for having bought CoV before this. I highly doubt we will get a refund, and getting free months is pretty unlikely to. I am willing to accept that the RL money I spent is gone. Okay. I can deal.
But would it be that hard to give out a badge to everyone that had CoV before hand? You gave badges out for logging in on CoV anniversaries, wouldn't this be the same idea?

Can we get a Dev list of who's around and who stayed with Cryptic?
[/ QUOTE ]
Jack Emmert remains in his position as Creative Director of Cryptic Studios, that he has been doing back since he transitioned off the day-to day CoH team and Positron took over as the Lead Designer.
As was mentioned by Brian Clayton in his Dev Corner, the previous Cryptic Team Leads all join us, consisting of:
Matt Positron Miller (lead designer)
Aaron Brady (lead engineer)
Ken Morse (lead artist)
With one exception, everyone who was presented with an offer to stay on the City of Heroes team under the NCsoft banner has accepted and is looking forward to working hard on the future of the franchise! While this includes a good number of people, it also includes many of the familiar red names from the forums, such as: Melissa War Witch Bianco, Floyd _Castle_ Grubb, Back Alley Brawler, Ghost Widow and Sexy Jay Doherty.
[/ QUOTE ]ok, having read that im a bit more mollified. im still not sure honestly if this is good news or not, but we kept all the devs but a few, so i cant whine. ill miss states though, everyone is entitled to their opinion of the guy, and im not here to try to win converts for his buddy list. But honestly he struck me as a nerd(and i mean that in a good way) who loved gaming in general and this game in particular and really wanted this game to do well, and i respect him for it.
oh and proc. i think he was referring to the states strike force and lord rec strike force.
Spider-Man... the Musical?!?!?!
Oh dear...
I can only pray that NcSoft are not as emotionaly invested in the excrement that are the villain epics and give villains ones balanced agains hero ones.
What worries me is not the change over, there is no point complaining it is done. It was a single sentence in one of the announcements pointing out that while they are continuing with the free release of issue they are also looking at other things.
I suspect that means paid expansions or CoX 2, for some reason this is really making me uneasy. Maybe its just the whole no sequel ever outdoes the original kinda thing (generally).
I will wait and see, but if this game starts becoming a money sink (beyond the monthly payment) then I am gone.

How do I get on CoH?
I have a paid CoV account, but whenever I use the CoH Updater, and choose a server, it just takes me into CoV..
[/ QUOTE ]
Once your account is set up, you will be able to create a hero character.
Keep in mind that the flagging process will take a bit. Currently estimated at just over 24 hours for active accounts.
Thanks for your patience!
[/ QUOTE ]I wonder if this has been answered already. The CohUpdater vs CoVUpdater. It is the same game client. Someone who only bought CoV and only has CoV on their account can use the CoV or CoH updater to get into the game. Same is true for those that have CoH only, and CoH/V, and of course, GvE (which is CoH/V).
IT DOESN'T MATTER! IT'S THE SAME CLIENT!!!

If that means a fresh start in badges and I'll get to be one of the vets rubbing in my face that I'll never have the 6 badges to catch up with them, sign me up!

[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. Whenever MUO eventually goes live, Cryptic would have had incentives to shut down further City development, and try to lure us all over to the new shiny game client with its popular licensed characters and it's different publisher. Meanwhile, City is a stable money-making title for NCSoft, so it was in their best interests to take ownership and to continue to develop and promote the property. It makes sense for both companies, and I think it'll be a long-term win for all of us. Whatever results in my being able to spend more time in more new activities with my favorite characters ... is good. With NCSoft owning City, I can imagine that happening, certainly more likely than it was before.
My biggest hope is that now NCSoft will provide the City team with enough resources that we'll be able to check some items off the Wish List. I won't name them, nor will I stir too much cautious optimism, but it Would Be Nice.
Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, and some of you may even feel that I am being a greedy [censored] for asking this.. but I see that people who don't own both games will be granted access to the other... well thats all well and fine..
... but what about those of us.. who, like myself, bought CoV when it launched. I spent $80 on the Collector's DvD Edition.. granted I know I will never see a penny of that back from you guys.. but frankly I'm not all that into CoV..
Had I known then, what I know now. That you would offer me the features from CoV.. I would have saved myself $80..
What it seems like is you're saying,
[ QUOTE ]
"Hey! you don't own X .. Well here, now you do." ... "and you.. oh.. you've already got both games.. well I guess you're SOL.."
[/ QUOTE ]
Does anyone else see how unfair this is ? I'm seriously feeling unappreciated here..
A thought grossed my mind, of giving everyone who owns both games, a free month of game play.. but I can see where that might be.. expensive on your end..

Unless they move support for CoH/V to NCSoft NorCal, then support will continue being split amongst all the NCSoft America titles. So... no change there. Also unless part of the new money is spent on more support staff in Austin, then that, too, would mean better customer service.
Be well, people of CoH.
