Well I will be there to officially represent NCsoft and City of Heroes/City of Villains. I am looking forward to visiting and it will be my first time in Indianapolis so I would love some helpful tips as to what I might be able to see in my short venture.

Looking forward to being there, and will be getting finalized details of the meet and greet out to all of you as soon as I know solid plans.

Indianapolis is a nice town, i'll leave it to some more local than I (Dayton, OH), to inform you of the sights.

Bah, it's not Gen Con unless it's in Milwaukee . . . .. .

Paragon's Super Friends & Rogue Isles Legion of Doom will have 5-7 people at GenCon. Several of us have met before and for a few of us this will be the first meeting.
Paragons Super Friends is located on the Champion Server and has been around for 2yrs now.
Hope to meet a few other CoH/CoV folks out there.

I don't know how much off-floor time you will get, but I do have some suggestions.
Eat at the Ram at least once, it's good food and very gamer friendly.
My friends and I are planning on visiting the Super Hero Museum a few blocks from the convention center. (It has a number of items from TV super hero shows and movies.)
If you get the chance, go to the costume contest. It is always fun, but the bonus is this year I will be competing for the first time.
If you get in early, I think there is an Indians game on Wed. The ballpark is really nice and fairly inexpensive.
The Zombie Walk starts about 9PM on Thursday from the Plaza.
Take a look at the Gamer Olympics if you get a chance, it is always good for a laugh. (My oldest son loves competing in it each year and doesn't mind getting beat up by foam weapons... kids, go figure.)
If you catch all those tidbits, you'll be doing better than most folks from the dealer floor.
My friends and I will be prowling the dealer floor in full costume on Sat. before the contest, since we will all be dressed alike, we will be easy to spot. (Look for all the pointing and laughing and we will probably be at the ends of the pointing fingers.)

Just remember that everything in Indy is within walking distance, so don't worry about having to rent a car to get around. Howl at the Moon is a fun place to hang out if you are into singing beer songs/Fight Songs of your Alma Mater. Be warned, the piano player plays whichever fight song who tips the highest, so you might have a see saw battle of I.U./ Purdue alums going at it.

From Indy originally but haven't been back but once a year for Gencon since they started having it there. The zoo is right down the road from the convention center as well if you're in to that sort of thing. Also the Indy 500 museum is over in Speedway if you want to do the car thing.

Last year we had to contend with a Colt's preseason home game in the middle of the big dance. Which was a weird mix at the bars with all us gamers dressed up in our favorite style and all the football fans dressed up in jerseys and make up. Have to check the football schedule and see where they are.

I'll be there playing CBT for the first two days. Saturday is a free day so I'll probably stop by the booth then or if I take a break from table top.

wow, what a subjective question. indy is best thought of as a sports and leisure town; as evidenced by most of the suggestions pointing you to places to relax and enjoy an evening. in the end though, it's a bit like asking what there is to see and do in san francisco or chicago.

the super hero museum is intresting. and lets face it.... the trip to the track is almost mandatory. indy is home to the temple of speed and they offer a bus ride around the track that is worth the drive out there ('course i am a racing fan so i'm biased).

crackers is certainly one of the best comedy clubs in town. and for those of you who are fans of the bob and tom morning radio show.... this is their home. they brodcast on 94.7 fm from 5am to 10am.

the downtown is full of museums, all within walking distance from the convention center. for my time the best is the soldiers and sailors monument at the heart of downtown on the circle (that circle is what gives this town it's popular nickname "the circle city" / ask anyone on the street and they will point u to "the circle") there is a museum in the base of the monument and the top is an observation deck.

lastly, the previously mentined victory field (baseball) and conseco field house (basketball) have both made the top ten best places to catch a sporting event on the travel channel. though for baseball you will have to get to town on the 15th since the indians are on the road during the con. the wnba indianapolis fever will be playing on both the 15th and the 19th though

on and on, circle center mall for movies, dining, shopping, and even the bars and arcade on the top floor. broad ripple (hippie enclave by day - college bar crowd by night). there's mass ave for the lbgt set. the down town is like any other city full of great eateries and late night spots. the previously mentioned zoo. for those with little ones there is the children's museum just a short drive north of down town (i may be a grown up, but i still get a kick out of that place). thriving drive in's (running current first releases) for those who miss them; as well as a couple imax theaters who crave the high tech video experience. trails and parks all over town to suit any taste. this is getting long, but that's indy... u want it... we got it

But i was at Gen Con several years ago and theres a Steak and Shake walking d

Wow Zamiel, thats significantly better than I could have done....but then again I'm from Chicago and living in the largest po-dunk town north of Indianapolis thats still in Indiana (Fort Wayne, theres nothing to do here unless you grew up here and know people). If you asked me about Fort Wayne I'd tell there was corn. But i was at Gen Con several years ago and do remember that theres a Steak and Shake walking distance from the Con(if its still at the same place), and theres a Texas Road House within about 20 min (driving time) of the Con site, they have a really good steak, and the best cinnamon butter I've ever had. thats about all I got to do last time I was at Gen Con being that i was 19ish then and was LARPing a lot.

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now! I'm another Indianapolis native, and I'm seriously going to try to make GenCon this year. Every other year, I've driven through downtown on my way home from work, seeing all the GenCon attendees walking about, wishing I could join them. This'll be my year!

I've been to a few BotCons (Transformers convention), but never a gaming convention, so I guess I'll see how they compare.

I'd give some recommendations for things to do, but everyone else has pretty much covered it all. If you're wanting to get out of the city, there are plenty of things to do in the out-lying areas, like Greenwood (south) and Castleton (north), and it's no more than a 20-minute or so drive.

Here's hoping I can come, and I look forward to meeting some new friends

My wife and I will be attending Gencon this year. We will have our global names on our badges to help identify us. I hope to meet a few of you that will be attending!

Assuming my plans don't shatter into jagged little pieces, I'll be there. My brother lives in town, so I don't have to worry about hotel accommodations.

GenCon is just around the corner and we are getting really excited to see all our "City of" folks that will be there or that live in the area.

So far it is confirmed that CuppaJo and Ex Libris will be in attendance to the event. We have an official gathering scheduled for Saturday August 18th at the restaurant Alcatraz (more details to follow.)

This event is now full so if you missed the sign up, you can get on the wait list (email me at exlibris@ncsoft.com or you can try to get reservations to the restaurant on your own.

For any of our players that are planning to get together in a less formal venue please post here to share details and find out who else will be in attendance.

I am able to attend other gatherings as long as it doesn't interfere with my already scheduled duties, so let me know where the fun will be.

Regards,

Ex

Just so people know, I think the email address in Ex Libris post is wrong. Not sure if I should post what I think it is though. They may have just changed their email address.

Oh and I'm firmly with the Milwaukee was better camp. Mostly, because I enjoyed the Safehouse and other places I had traditionally visited.

I fixed the email there was a parenthesis at the end, it should work properly now.

Thank you for letting me know.

I had heard that Arctic Sun was going to be there, too. Is that true or did I misread that?

Also, in regards to The Ram, I've been there before, last Gencon. There were some Privateer Press fans that had planned a gathering there. I had a good time, there.

Yes, my geek hobbies run the full gambit.

Arctic Sun will be there as well.

I will be posting full details of the event after our final meeting to arrange all the planning. So a full announcement will be up this week.

...and yet again, for the second year in a row, fate has toyed with my desires to meet some of the folks from the forums.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend this year as I am moving into my recently purchased home that weekend. I've already sent Ex an e-mail so yet again, I am denied.

Perhaps next year...
