Reason #7:

7) Damned if you do; damned if you don't

HONESTLY!

I've have years of experience at helpdesks for IBM, Apple and Epson. Even when you give a little nugget of helpful information, it can get all twisted and used against you. There nothing more frustrating than that.

'Course that's just my #7, being the old curmudgeon I am.

Wouldn't have anything to do with that secret garden on the roof the employees seem to keep sneaking off to on breaks when they think nobody's watching, but would explain many, many, MANY things?

Or the ill-chosen Juice vending machine that somebody forgot to plug in until after everything inside fermented in really disturbing ways?

Or that loaf of pumpernikel the intern left on the table on Christmas vacation, and ended up in the cupboard, only to be found a couple of weeks ago, and assumed perfectly edible since it's surely only food coloring?

CuppaJo left her Coffee maker and special beans behind, and somebody forgot to clean it out first?

But... but... but you're Spud_Lover! We've come to expect irrational, extremist, and utterly absurd rants of impending doom. How are we to tell the difference?

(Kidding, of course- your posts are actually very rational, centrist, and only mildly absurd rants of impending "meh". )

Do smilies really help convey that this was a friendly jab and absolutely not serious in any way?

How about now?

3) The answer is already being given by a lot of players already
4) The answer is obvious (and thus will eventually be given out by a lot of players, see #3).

Hold up there. It might seem obvious to you, but you realize you're leaving yourself wide open for a, "If the developers don't address it, it must be true" clause here, y'know. Might want to exert a little more effort here to perform a bit of rumor control.

It should be pointed out that players say a LOT of things, and say them a lot. It's a little hard to pick what answer is "being given by the players" when they are giving conflicting answers. So trying to infer developer standing from a bunch of people posting their opinion is just bad practice.

It helps eliminate confusion if you just believe everything I say.

Even when I'm wrong, you still won't be confused.

Also, there's the occasions where "the devs have denied it" got turned into "the devs are lying". See: removal of the 5th Column.

Let's just say that I don't want to go into the 5th Column thing. It was handled exceptionally poorly. To put it in simple terms, I will let go of my conspiracies when I see them in-game. Until then, I'd rather not talk about it

It's no secret. From the forum rules:

[ QUOTE ]
5. No “I Demand Answers” threads

Threads that make threats or use other combative language will be removed without notice. If you ask a question on the board and it has not been addressed by a moderator, there is a reason for that (or there is not an answer currently available). In the event of legitimate emergencies, or other unprecedented scenarios, we will endeavor to provide comments, even if it is only to state that there is no officially available information. However, this is not always possible.

[/ QUOTE ]

And yet, Positron has indulged two 'calling out' threads.

Forum mods should have locked both down contents unseen just by the thread title alone.

If there are more of them, Posi, it's you're own fault.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's a fine line; I took this thread mostly to be a joke, so I'm surprised Posi even replied. But didn't you start the "Set IOs shut off when Exemplared - Feedback" thread? Since the devs didn't ASK for feedback and it wasn't stickied, it's borderline; it doesn't demand a dev response, but by presuming to emulate an official feed it implies they should be reading it, at least, if not responding. The "Devs, I want an answer" threads are just silly because they're presumptuous. I liked your method better, and I posted in the thread a lot not only to make sure all the points had been made but hoping the devs would address the issue, possibly engaging in a dialogue and addressing individual points... the "dev silence" threads are the same thing, just with a neon sign.

Perhaps we need a "Continued Dev Silence on Exemplaring Set Bonus Shutoff" thread.

[/ QUOTE ]

The forums as a whole, but especially the Test forum and Player Suggestion forum implies the devs are soliciting feedback. They say as much quite often. It has been made clear that not all feedback topics need be started by the devs.

Furthermore, there's a big difference from offering feedback at one's own initiative and hoping for a response on one hand; and whining, complaining, or demanding a response on the other hand.

Reasons why devs might be silent on an issue:

1) We didn't see the issue. There are a lot of threads out there.
2) We are in the middle of looking at an issue, and saying anything at the time might be invalidated. Even something like "we are looking into it" can be read as "we are going to change it" if we look at it and find it to be fine, we would get blasted for not changing it when we said we would.
3) The answer is already being given by a lot of players already
4) The answer is obvious (and thus will eventually be given out by a lot of players, see #3).
5) It involves talking about stuff we can't/shouldn't be talking about.
6) The question is a "when" question. We rarely answer these, because even when we put disclaimers on it, our answer becomes taken as gospel, and if we fail to deliver, we look bad.

There's a secret 7th reason that I am not going to give you because of reason #7.

[/ QUOTE ]

Regardless of your reasons I think that you should've told the player base before I9 hit that the dev team intended for costume recipes to be commodities that they would seek and pay top inf for. If you did then the player base would not have thought that they would've been able to get those new pieces easily for both their new toons as well as their older toons. It would not have caused sour grapes (so to speak) or bad blood. Players can take it better when they are told up front than when it is hidden from them.
