"How to" request fan art

Bucky, Thor, you guys need to do a similar guide about being a good customer, and what to expect/ask for when comissioning art.

I could certainly use that... and several other neccisities, like money.

So I have the desire for art, I just lack the means. Soon though, soon things will be different. Until then....

Now that you quoted me, the arrow seems to be pointy at 'your room' where you've been naughty, lol.

Oh dear.
Umm, nothing to see here. Move along.

I've never even considered trying to get anyone to draw one of my characters for free. If someone ever does, it would be a huge surprise for me and I'd probably die of overthankfulness.
My preference would be to either pay for a commission or a do a trade of pieces, but since my current skills are not really all that skillful...trades are not really even an option yet.
Heck, at this point I don't even have reference pics of my characters. Then again, I'm a terrible altaholic and it would take a few days to get enough screenshots taken...
Eventually, I hope to be able to post my work here, but still have a long artistic road to travel before I'd feel comfortable trying to bring people's character's to life. And for myself, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking someone else to draw my character if I can't return the favor in some way.

Well put Juggs, as an artist considering commissions in the near future it's nice to know an experienced artist's perspective.

It was for a gif animation, not a full piece, but still.. Not mentioning any names.
Yeah, and you never did finish it for me!

Ive always wondered about the price range of commissions?
Ive been wanting to get someone to draw The Crown for a while, but I dont want to just ASK someone to do it, cause, well... as someone with very little free time myself, I dont want to ask someone else to use thier free time on me heh..if that makes sense.
So ive been considering commissioning an artist, but ive blown it off cause I really dont think I should be spending money on something like that hehe,.. but im interested in knowing the price ranges, just to make sure
[/ QUOTE ]
Just thought I'd mention this bit for clarity: the powers-that-be frown on any specific mention of commission pricing in a thread, so we don't discuss actual pricing here. For specifics on commission pricing either ask via PM's or on an artist's outside website.

Good to know .. thanks for the heads up.

So you told him to shove off and go find a new avatar on the net that was already done up and free?
No?
Hmmm

I have a tip to add Juggertha, more of an expansion of keeping good screenshots of your character.
Keep a bio sheet of your character/characters that you can cut and paste when sending off information to the prospective artist. It saves you having to write up information time and again, and cuts down on the potential questions you may be asked by the artist.
Include details on costume pieces and color
Hair, Eye and Skin color
Height (when perspective is important)
Age
List of your Power Sets
Biography of your character (if you have one)
For example I keep a CoX Information Sheet on dA so I can quickly cut and paste information when I enquire about a commission, or am asked to supply details.
Yup, that really helps SMF. I love it when someone has taken the time to piece together a "sheet" of their character in different poses. I get to see the costume at different angles, and they can elaborate on any changes they'd like (thos not in this amazing character creator).

So wait, pretending to be TA doesn't work?
<.<
>.>
Damn...
Was that your plan too?
Great mind and all huh?
If you Must have art for your character (and who doesn't? >.> Offer Something in return You don't need money all the time; use the barter system. I've done a couple "Virtual Commisions" before, IE, the person paid me in game money. There's also Powerleveling, Web Design, Homework doing, (Yo, I'm leet at math, I'll do your calcus homework! <.< Influence/Infamy trading, Hami-O's, Halloween Salvage (What artist isn't a sucker for an extra costume?) and on and On. There are any number of things that an artist might find valuable enough to do a piece for you. If you can't do art yourself to trade, chances are good you have Something to offer in it's place. Just the simple fact that you did make the offer will go a long way towards putting you in a favorable light the next time the free art thread bug hits that paticular artist.
(ftr, offering free critiques of their work is probably not enough <.<
Nothing says lovin like DOs! Yes Larissa I iz a DO [censored]!

11. If you draw my toon I won't show your baby pics all over the internet.
12. I promise if you draw my toon I won't follow you home.
13. If you draw me I'll remove the shower cam from your house.
14. Please don't think I'm weird but if you draw my toon I'll stop stealing your underwear.
15. If you draw my character I will give you a .00000000000001% chance of seeing 'Hexgirl's Exposed' comic.
