  1. Happening with me too. Same error.

  2. After bouts of frustration where everything I would attempt to draw looked nothing like what I had intended it to be, I picked up my pencil again yesterday.

Positron and Star Wars postage stamp emerged.

There were a few others. I didn't have time to scan the one other sketch that was scanworthy. And the other sketches (attempts to draw my controller, Cosmic Firefly) were very bad. Not entirely sure what it is but every single time I've tried to draw one of my characters, they turn out rather terrible.

  3. No, no, if Imagesbyalex gets dressed up as a clown, that will be the villainous Kilo's doing. Though, I get the sense that he's more into just smashing his enemies and leaves the costume parties to the masterminds. Oh, and the Joker. The Joker would dress Alex up as a clown. Hero Kilo too, with daisies decorating his iron jaw.

  4. Kilo vs Kilo!!

    Very enjoyable read.

Sadly, Cosmic Firefly has no real backstory to her, even after 50 levels. Though, what's funny is some of her story and where her power comes from emerged when I wrote a backstory for Ebon Firefly on the red side.

One of these days, I'm going to have to use that information to write up a story for Cosmic.

I'm looking forward to the next part, Kilo. Great work!

I'll definitely be on tonight. Need to continue my journey toward level 50. 5 levels to go! 5 levels to go! Only 2 powers and 9 slots left to go! Ayieeeee!

You're leveling like you were shot out of a cannon Cosmic; it's hard to believe this is your first look at 50

The Envisionaries have made all the difference. Leveling is very easy to do when you have a regular group of people to play with every night, that's for sure.

  6. Not bragging, or trying to anyway. Just excited. This will be my first 50 in City of Heroes.

  8. That sounds awesome, Crest! I can't wait to see it!

And, I will happily pose for any screenshots. Sadly, my reference shots for Firefly are all of my Fire/Kin on Justice...who has different costumes than Firefly on Liberty. I really need to fix that.

  9. From yesterday, a sketch of Superman.

His pelvis is off, but I didn't really spend time on him. I'm mostly happy with it.

  10. From last Wednesday, I worked up this sketch of one of my most favorite of comic characters.

Essentially, I was copying a Jim Lee piece, though as you can imagine Mr. Lee's piece came out looking a little more polished.

I'm not entirely happy with the left arm (the arm on the right side of the sketch). I think if I spent more time with it, I could probably be happier. But that will be for the next sketch.

    A Cosmic Sketch

Thank you very much for the comments. While things don't exactly come out exactly as I envision, I am having a lot of fun. Encouragement here helps a lot, that's for sure.

So a couple sketches from today.

While I'm not sure if it looks anything like who it's supposed to be, I am very pleased that it does look so very much like a person.

    Sketch 1

Where I work (though, probably nearly everyone else could say the same) there are always pigeons wandering around. So, on a whim I decided to try to draw a pigeon:

    A Cosmic Sketch

Did some sketching today. The first is a sketch of my Fire controller, Little Firefly. Overall, I'm not very happy with it, but I think it's an improvement over what's come before. It's still incredibly rough, and a lot of the page turned a bit grey during the copious amounts of erasing going on.

    Little Firefly

Unhappy with how the head turned out (especially the hat), I decided to do a sketch of just the head. I think overall, her head is too long and I mudged up some of her features, but I'm very happy with how the hat turned out.

    Little Firefly - Close Up

I had my second art class last night. Did a blind contour drawing, an upside down line drawing in charcoal, and then a perspective drawing of a box with an apple sitting atop it.

All in all, more frequent sketching and the class are helping (at least I think so) so that I'm seeing improvements.

Looking at some of the phenomenal artwork posted here, it can sometimes get a little daunting and feel like I'm never going to get where I'm going to be. But, I know the only way I'm ever going to get there is the same way they did, keep on working at it.

  13. Wow! She looks great! This was an unexpected surprise! Thank you very much!

    Synapse sketch

I think it looks really nice. Whenever it comes to shading in a sketch, my eyes go crosseyed. I like the shading in this.

Though, whenever I think of Synapse, I can't help thinking of the first vid on this page.

  15. Thankfully, the closest I've ever come was watching a video on YouTube, but wow it looked nice.

Once I feel more comfortable with pencils and inks, then I'm going to more actively pursue getting a tablet. For now though, I need to improve my artwork before going digital.

I don't know how much of a difference the levels of pressure really makes, but the tilt would definitely be a big one for me.

  16. When I eventually get one, I'm planning on an Intuos3 6x8, though I will be dreaming of a Cintiq.

  17. My Inv/EM tanker, Cosmic Watcher, hit level 10 tonight, so I set up Re-Visionaries.

I made sure every rank can invite, but that's about all so far. It'll still need to be added to a coalition, and ranks need to be set up...and all of that.

But, if you have an alt who wants into the Re-Visionaries, there ya go.

    A Cosmic Sketch

It is. From a GameSpy Daily email that arrived yesterday. I had to fudge some of the left side of the sketch because the image has a big conversation bubble that says "Very nice. ." covering it up.

Most of the gestures I did didn't turn out very well, but I think this one did. I found a website with a bunch of bodybuilders in various poses.

It's not much, but it is a sketch .

I've been doing a lot of sketching and doodling, mostly heads and gesture drawings. Usually, when I have my sketchpad out, I'll draw whatever pictures happen to be on a webpage or whatever.

I tried drawing Sister Psyche from the banner at the top of the board, but had huge problems making her nose look like a nose.

This sketch came from an email...

    But anyway...

  21. The pencil I have right now, the mechanical 0.5mm one I've been using, has little of the eraser left on it. Thankfully, though, there's still enough of it that when I need to erase, it works.

The lead holder I have, it came with a sharpener. The thing is so uncomfortable to use that it's all pretty much moot though.

    Cosmic
  22. I tried to find a lead holder that isn't the drafting one I picked up last year, but haven't been able to find one. The art store where I usually go doesn't seem to carry them.

I figure this is the time to experiment and see what works.

    Cosmic
  23. With mechanical pencils, I really like that I don't have to keep sharpening it. What does seem to be happening is that the way I'm using the pencil, the other half of the lead does end up coming to a point. If I turn the pencil and then draw with the now-pointy part of the lead, it changes the quality of the line, and seems to make it more fine.

I'm still working through getting better control of the pencil, so that when I draw a line it's the line I wanted to draw in the first place.

Some of my lines also come out shaky, and I'm not sure if my hands shake, if I'm holding the pencil too tight or what. More than likely, it's just that I need to keep on practicing.

I think the only other pencils I have with me at work are a 2B wood pencil that needs sharpening in a very bad way, and a .7 mechanical.

The .5 is comfortable with a nice spongy grip.

    Cosmic
  24. For those that still use pencils or have opinions on pencils or anyone who feels a need to make a comment in regards to pencils...which do you prefer?

I'm currently (or at least have been this morning) using a .5mm mechanical pencil. I believe it was made by Pentel and is their Champ brand, or something like that. So far, I'm not happy with it. It seems to be capable of mostly dark, dark, and black, though that could be me. The lead seems pretty hard in this one, though I'm not entirely sure.

I need to dig out one of the .7mm and see if I like that any better.

I have a drafting pencil at home, but the end of it is this rough metal that gets uncomfortable after a little use.

I have some wood pencils that I hate having to sharpen, though I think they seem to do well enough when I remember to sharpen them.

So, what is your preferred pencil of choice?
