That's gonna be sharp in color! Nice work Jug.
I love the tutorials you've posted so far... keep spreading the wealth of knowledge -

If you are familiar with the Guardians of the Golden Age over on Virtue you may know this artist. I was lucky as I met him through PinUp's SG, the Gods of the Golden Age. We discussed a few pieces, back when PinUp was still relatively new, and so this is one of the first commissions I decided on. Finally decided to pull the trigger on it, and here it is.
South Pacific by Iconsinink
Also recently got in a really fun piece by Semaj007:
Family Feud
Iconsinink and Semaj007 are both on DA.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great work there. I didn't realize the bar has been set so high for PinUp art. I'll do my best to keep up with these established veterans
I love the classic airbrush style in South Pacific - it's very true to her era. The hair really give her depth.
The subtle highlights in Feud are really cool. Her expression is priceless too, but I will admit I was afraid to view it at work... -

I'd agree with Rocket. I'd plump up her arms and calves a bit more. Also, toes, she needs toes. Well...maybe not, I don't know how useful they actually are and I know my shoes would fit better sometimes if I didn't have them...
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks all for the great tips - it's a big improvment. She's all cleaned up now, and ready to paint, but...
I still suck at toes

I didn't wanna know your fetishes. But I do like your art!

My bad & thank you! -

I think you can see someone for help with that....

Looks great. The only thing I notice is her arms look a little small in proportion to her body. Also, her calves look a little on the small side too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great points Rocket! The left arm is overall still a struggle-in-progress, but now that you mention it, I can see the right also needs to stretch a little. Although the calves on most of my WWII pin-up references tended to be a little lean, she would look a bit more heroic with some juicier yams
[ QUOTE ]
Looking good so far! I think that the left arm underarm area seems off a bit - the curve makes it look like a bit of flab hanging down, to me. The dagger twirling - I'm thinking the blade should be straighter, given the motion lines. A curved blade would cause a kind of oval motion.
[/ QUOTE ]
My bad on the left hinge. Her underarm will get some attention while I put more focus into that shoulder. That line in particular is a little scary - thanks for pointing it out
As for the knife, I'd not given enough thought into my approach for the action with it. The blade itself really should be straight. I intend to throw some motion blur into it in the final painting... maybe a straight knife with curved action lines.

Clearly Larissa, you've never played with knives. Every dual blade scrapper has prosthetic toes, if not entire feetReally though, I'd not planned to get into that much detail until I smooth out the lines on the bomb, and maybe the basic layout of the B-17 panels & windows. She'll have toes...
[ QUOTE ]
I look forward to seeing this painted, I love her expression. Great overall image!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you DarkLilac. Figure drawing was never a strong suite of mine, so facial expressions don't come easy to me. One reason I avoided my typical Poser reference (crutch) this time was to stay clear of that mechanical blank stare I always struggle to nuke from the final drawing.
Thank you all for the wonderful insights. I'm excited with what these changes will bring. -
I've cleaned up the pose and most or her linework now. She's about ready for color:
PinUp Girl
BTW - I'd appreciate any critique you can offer. I've noticed a few flaws to work on already. -
That is some tight linework. It looks perfect for graphic novels - well done!

Can't wait to see how this one progresses--love it so far! Thanks for putting PinUp on the nose
[/ QUOTE ]
You're welcome. Until I did a little google image research, I didn't realize just how much Vargas girls dominated WWII aircraft art. She's as nice a history lesson as much as she is fun to paint.
I'm reworked her left arm today, and will replace the rough sketch this weekend before starting the digital painting.
Thank you all for the encouraging words. -
[ QUOTE ]
Saw a few PinUp Girl art these few weeks? Why people like to draw her?
[/ QUOTE ]
Simple really... money, power & fame.
It's a sad fact, but pageviews multiply tenfold when a pretty girl is in the painting. Some of my favorite pieces are stuck at 40 views, so sometimes it's nice to do work that gets noticed -
It's still very rough, but I couldn't resist the chance to do some proper cheesecake "nose art". I'm planning to do this as a digital oil painting of the nose on a B-17.
Bombs Away
By the way, I don't think this is too racy for a direct link. Redirect me if I'm wrong... I've been gone awhile -
Hey, it looks like everyone from last year is still around after all. I'm sure schedules probably won't allow for a lot of teaming over the course of the month anyhow, but I did want the SG to know that I have missed those good times in Paragon City.
This past week has been a good reminder why I let the account lapse in the first place... logging in twice a week is a rarity, lol. Posting here has inspired me to get into some more hero art though. BRB with a WIP post -
No RAVE TIME!?!? That sucks!
It's nice to see so many of the rest of you are here. I'm still joined to Paragon One, so if any of you see me on before my account self-destructs (August 26), I'll be willing to 'Hero' team. I've got 50s on Pinnacle, Champion and Justice. On Virtue and Liberty I'm in the high 30's.
As you can see SyrusB, I suffered from that server-itis bug too. Pick-up teams (almost) never did bother me. You meet some interesting sorts that way.
LJ, that is a great way to get re-acquainted with RL friends. My brother in Virginia plays Guild Wars and Team Fortress 2 with us at least once a week. With teamspeak we talk more than we ever did when he lived here. Lack of art production was a big reason I cut back on games too. 10-midnight is also my limit, so I'm sure we'll hook up at some point.
What happened to your wrist Larissa? Get some ice on it
Thanks for letting me know you're all still here. Hit me up @Grave Enigma if you'd like to team. I do have only heroes though. -
It's been a year since I let my subscription lapse, so this weekend I reactivated my account for a month just for a quick fix. After 2-3 issues I had to see what these new changes and powersets look like. Rusty Shank is loving those dual knives by the way.
So my question is how many Envisionaries (artists' SG) still play on Liberty? At the time I left most were dabbling in the Dark side, so I wasn't sure how many were logged on most the time. -
He's got that confident look there.
Nice job Crestent. -

You should go ahead and paint her with antennae, I think it would look great.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are Andorians the blue aliens from the Star Trek Enterprise series? I imediately thought of them when viewing her. Great work as always Liz! -
I had to reactivate my account just to say "wow!". The scaley skin is amazing... nice work.
(Really I've just been jonesing from a full year without my speedboost) -
Those are so awesome! I love the lighting affects.
Dr. Fyre could have been Frank Zappa droppin' acid while Dweezel was yet a wee imp. -

After very nearly 39 months of playing I finally got my first 50! My main character Ipo.
Maybe if I don't get so wrapped up in my other character's stories, I'll have another 50 someday.
Yeah, I know...took long enough.
Thought I'd share....or....shout.

Grat's 8!
Don't feel bad about how long it took. To me fun thing about 50 is the ride there... at least you took the time to savor it. -
Congrat's Graver!
His Daily Deviation is much deserved, as at least half the DD's I've seen don't come close to his caliber. -

Great art section this week TA!!
But then again I am biasedThose are two of my all time favorite pieces of my character featured. Grave and LJ are awesome indeed I am so glad all get to see it.

I couldn't agree more! In my opinion that one from Grave_Enigma was one of his best to date! I'm glad ya liked the art section this week my friend!
[/ QUOTE ]
Now I know why my ears were burning at the Tiger game, go-cart track and poolside this weekend! I'm sorry I haven't taken any time to catch up on art since the holiday.
Thank you for including my Raging Fury piece in the Scoop, and for your encouragement
I agree the interview with Liz is awesome! She's so well spoken. -
Holy COW Batman... It's Udder Lunacy!!!
That's right, with my latest pet project is done it's time to choose my final victim:
[ QUOTE ]
You're always welcome to draw my heroes, what kind would you like?
There's Wyld Fyre, raver, gunsmith, hero, all her info is on Virtueverse
[/ QUOTE ]
During my last painting I realized each hero I've done were dark or green. Wyld Fyre should add both color and hotness to spice up my commission page, and Kai has done a great job with the reference shots.
Thank you all for your consideration. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've been trying to incorporate characters from CoH in many pictures I'm currently working on and it has not been hard to find willing candidates in this forum. Two specific however I have not been able to find anyone for.
* Human normal male, Tanker/Scrapper/Brute fighting with just his hands (SS/Dark Melee f.ex.), not too many visual effects in armor and attacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Burnt Reynolds is a Superstrength/Fire Tank. He hit 50 on Champion last year, so he's retired. For that reason you may prefer choosing someone else's main.
[ QUOTE ]
* Any gender AR Blaster/Corruptor. Lower part of face not covered by anything. Noone plays AR anymore? :P
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right... I don't play Pvt Party anymore either
If you want to use either of them, I'll get you bigger, better screenshots... these were taken long ago solely for avatars. -

Update: The artist I mentioned HAS decided to do commissions, but she has no idea how to price them. To find out the ballpark she should aim for, she's making her first commission an auction.
Here is her gallery:

That is so friggin' brilliant!!! I'll be keeping an eye on this auction and may try that after this (third and) last freebee art.
My current pet project is running over my scheduled timeline, so during the next day or two I'll accept late entries for the last FREE art in THIS THREAD. Please do post your screenshots and bio there -

Alright, done. It is just a quick drawing, but to be fair, I did spend a lot of time drawing, however, not much came out of my countless hours in the sweatshop. This was the only halfway decent pic that I drew.
Oh yeah, Its of Turboski.

Very well done! What program did you draw her in?
