Who said it has to be small chance from a TF/trial? Why can't it be small chance from anything (killing mobs/mission complete/etc)?

Why the need to have any item linked to specific events like this?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because the Evil Doctor says that they want four pools to work through. Currently, that's enemy defeats, task forces, trials, and story arcs. They aren't willing to get rid of a pool at this point.

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand that, and I'm saying I think it's a crap idea and it's why this thread has 1000 posts with different complaints and desires.

Restricting any of this to specific events is a bad idea, IMO.

This makes 4 pools from which recipe rewards can come from. Pool A is enemies, Pool B is Story Arcs, Pool C is Task Forces, and Pool D is Trials.

I love early information, especially early enough that it can be changed, but man did you ask for trouble putting it like this. You might want to at least elaborate the full thought process, lest we doubt there was one.

I get that you wanted to provide from different sources, not a bad idea. But what was the next decison?

Question: Was it intentional that Pool B is finite, while the other pools are not?

If so, can you provide followup on why you feel it necessary to cause that kind of scarcity? (And if not intentional, how embassing!)

You say you're discussing alternative Pool B options. Knowing if you're thinking finite or repeatable would give a lot more information.

Follow-up Question: Is it intentional that this finite resource not be equally available?

What effect do you expect this to have on those with less, or with none?

I just read the entire thread, all I can say is I think I deserve a rare recipe from pool B for that.

I would like to add that I'm thankful the dev's are looking into alternate solutions as I was a bit concerned previously.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is another good point. While I'm still very concerned about the potential for fixed supplies of Pool B loot, I do appreciate the Devs' willingness to listen to our concerns. I appreciate them mentioning the fact that they are listening to our concerns even more. I know you guys take a lot of abuse (from myself and others) so thanks for keeping up the effort, and keeping the lines of communication open.

I am listening to your ideas, but a Flashback system is simply not something we can implement in a timeframe you would all be happy with.

Instead we are looking into other options to get you the Pool B choice so level 50s don't feel gimped.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can badges be a help here? Assuming most story arcs have some kind of badge reward (not all to be sure), if a player has the qualifying badge, can there be a npc toon in the auction houses that will "reward" the recipes as a result?

The issue with Safeguard/Mayhem missions dropping from the Story Arc Pool would seem to be that it would make salvage that would seem to be meant to be relatively rare common as Hydrogen. As mentioned in another thread, how about limiting Story Arc drops in Safegard/Mayhems to once per day? This would provide a repeatable source of Story Arc drops, but the limit technology would keep the farming relatively low.

I am gonna ask for the 3rd time, and will stop at 300 - NC Soft needs to release documentation to the players on this - I am sure much of it already exists - this is way too complicated to make us reverse engineer again in dribs and drabs.....DO IT!

I think that at this point, we can assume that the Story Arc IO Rewards will get handed out in some other (additional?) way.

Here's another tidbit: There are only 40 Story Arcs available Hero side. Are there more than 40 Story Arc IORs in the pool? And what about the fact that Villains have almost twice as many Story Arcs? And what if new Story Arc Enhancements get added to the game later?

Okay, so Story Arc Enhancements are going to be given out another way. So what is best?

I like giving them out for Mayhem/Safeguard missions at a rate of 100% for the Mission Holder only...but that does have the downside of outleveling certain rewards (or missing out by failing the mission).

I also like the idea of giving them out based on Souvenirs (in addition to some other way), if the tech to do that is already in place. If not, forget it or hand them out that way later, but don't delay I9 for it.

Also good would be some kind of level 50+ repeatable missions (maybe only repeatable 100x each?) that give out Story Arc rewards.

Story Arcs I created:

Every Rose: (#17702) Villainous vs Legacy Chain. Forget Arachnos, join the CoT!

Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!

Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!

Seems reasonable. They can limit the number of times you get SHO from the LRSF this way, I would think that might be something they could apply to recipes.

I mentioned this in another thread, but Nofuture has a pretty darned good list of City of heroes arcs. There are:
Kheldian Arcs: 9
CoH Regular story arcs with Souviners: 36
Zone specific story arcs (Hollows:4, Faultline:4, Striga:4, Croatoa:4): 16 total
Total Story arcs: 61 arcs, 52 for non-Kheldians

CoH Task Forces: 14 (Statesman TF +1)

CoH Trials: 6 (New Hamidon +1)

So, currently around 3 arcs for every TF in CoH (Not including Kheldians). If you take the current arc total of 52 arcs and factor in both trials and TFs (including the new Hami and Statesman TF), you get roughly 2 arcs for each TF/Trial.

Villains have a much higher total of arcs, thanks to the arcs being broken into multiple sections, and a much lower amount of strike forces (5 total currently with one more from a new Hamidon encounter).

What about tied to the PvP Rep system? The higher a person's rep when defeated the higher the chance for a drop to the person who killed him or the like. Or atleast tie it to certain PvP zone conditions, such as zone capping Sirens or RV.

I know this breaks the PvE mold but it DOES help reward PvPers outside of the temp powers where most of them you don't even need to have PvP to earn.

It's like I said, we are looking into other options that keeps the mechanic of the four pool system. Our intention is to not make people feel "gimped" for previously completing all their story arcs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Doc, care to tell us why you guys are so fixated at this magic number of "4"? Why STRONG ARM people into doing story arcs, or trials, or TF, when not everyone's playing style is the same.

WHY NOT have a single pool that every defeat can draw from?

Why do you guys seem to think that harder/rarer = better or more fun?

The only thing worse than devs making bad decisions is the hoard of fanboys and bootlickers that keep cheering them on.

Yes, once per day - and make it a choice: a new contact or, once per day, a Story-Arc List Recipe.

Bad idea, very bad idea. There are many of us who do not PvP regularly, or even at all. I've only started dipping into PvP these last few weeks after being very staunchly anti-PvP. PvP for recipes or salvage, no thank you. Having PvP the prime or only method of getting one of the tiers of recipes is a sure way to get a large portion of the player base up in arms. I'm not sure about the percentiles of players who PvP are, but I know it is relatively very small.
