BS. It's exploiting a bug. No matter now much skill or cleverness it requires to pull off, it's still an exploit.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would hesitate to use the word "exploit". Either way I don't believe it's what Castle was referring to when he used the word "bug". He was talking about stacking Rage not causing an endurance loss.

"It is NOT resisted. This is as intended."

is it intended that it kicks ice/ in the teeth while the other sets get a poke with a stick?

[/ QUOTE ]

Invulnerability gets hammered pretty well. Most of that set's non-S/L mitigation comes from Invincibility. Slotted up and surrounded by enemies ( needs 10 to cap it ) gets you right around 30% Defense. When Rage drops it is a -20% to Defense. The Rage drop causes Invincibility to stop effecting mobs so it stops granting the Defense bonus. This takes you from 30% to -20% Defense. I'm not sure about Ice but if that set gives you 30% with your armors you would still have 10% Defense.

Rage can amount to up to about a -50% Defense Penalty for Invulnerability Tankers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Keep in mind that another part of the damage mitigation in the Ice set comes from the Chilling Embrace damage debuff, which also stops affecting enemies during the Rage crash.

Theoretically, Ice Armor can duck the rage crash by hibernating. Since you can't affect anything else anyway, there's no cost to hibernate, and you are invulnerable while hibernating. And it cycles fast enough to be available every rage crash, with appropriate slotting.

Also: hibernate has +recovery. My guess is that ten seconds of hibernation gets you close to a full bar of endurance.

Excellent point. You can't affect anyone else anyway so might as well go invulnerable and get a full bar of health and endurance back while you're just standing there. And perhaps more importantly, the hibernate animation is a signal to the rest of your team that you are in crash mode. Far from kicking Ice/ in the teeth, you could make the case that Ice/ deals with the crash better than any other.

That change is effectively a buff to Rage.

Try telling that to my SS/Fire Brute. Not applying the Rage bonus to non-SS powers would definately be a nerf.

This thread has been a figment of your imagination.

There is no way to mitigate the end crash.

C'mon, Verdeman - sometimes a good, old-fashioned nerfing is needed to remind the player-base who is in control... namely, the players.

Myself, I'm praying for "ED, part the second". If anything can restore Issue 4 gameplay, that would do it.

All signs so far are that the wily Dev team is aware of all of the above, though, so we'll likely see a bunch of ninja-nerfs instead - one per issue, 3 weeks after its release is my guess.

Hitting a blue pill while your endurance is dropping is skill.

Double stacking rage so that it overlaps and avoids the endurance penalty is a bug.

There is a "known trick" to defeating any and all End crashes IF you have an end drain power: As your bar is on its way down, pop the end drain power. You have about a 1/2 second window where if you pop the power you still have enough Endurance to use it. It's hard to do and hard to time.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's clearly an exploit if it prevents the endurance crash. Unless I'm just misreading that though, maybe the crash still happens and you lose the endurance, but you regain the endurance simultaneously. If that's what's being described then I appologize for misunderstanding the post.

I play an SS/Inv Brute and I'm perfectly happy with Rage and it's crash as it is. When I first got it and again a level later when I first got it perma- I went "Gosh darn it, this 'can't attack' thing really breaks my sride ". A level later I had -no- complaints about the Crash I had to pay to get the benefits of Rage. I just learned to play with it. The Rage crash is an excellent time to use Aid Self, look around the battlefield for anything going on you've missed, reposition yourself, or just stand there and recover END while plotting mayhem on you foes. It's even fun to dash in with the clock ticking down and defeat a spawn before the timer runs out again. It doesn't gripe me and it doesn't make it difficult to play.

I say leave Rage -just- the way it is.

(No part of this is a comment on any double-stacking END bug)

Posted

I see how Rage buffing powers outside of SS might be a problem, but I imagine that's something that's not possible to fix. Only solution there might be to rebalance the powers in SS and reduce the boost from Rage to compensate.

Conceptually the biggest problem with the current Rage crash is the inability to aggro enemies.

Think about it: The big bad tank suddenly goes all weak and stops attacking, that should cause enemies to close in for the kill not forget all about him. They should add an automatic Taunt the moment the crash activates!

I belive you've missunderstood then. You don't avoid the crash so much as get enough endurance back to avoid toggle dropping. It's much like a corruptoer hitting his nuke, eating a small blue, then nailing transference to refill. he's still hit with the penetaility for using the nuke, but he's effectively overcame it so that it's not a burden. (I dont want to sound like i'm bragging, but i've gotten rather good at it on my rad/kin, and my end bar looks like a yo-yo. all the way down, then all the way back up in a matter of seconds. It's almost like the crash didn't happen, but it did. )

Sides, your toggles don't always drop you crash anyway. I've noticed that most of my toggles stay on, 9 times out of ten, when US drops. *shrug* I've accually gotten into the habbit of taking a knee when the icon starts flashing, and as a result, my toggle don't drop after the crash, and i'm back and running at full a few seconds later.

This is what is happening, you lose your end bar, then you regain it soon after, maybe even all of it if you hit enough guys. I do this with powersurge sometimes. You can also pop aid self or some other self heal as you are crashing and not be so bad off health wise after your crash, as long as you can make the heal 'tick' come after the crash 'tick'.

If they fix this, I demand they make enemies that I hold mid attack to lose their attack too.

I like Rage just the way it is.

As for the crash? Suck it up. Hundreds of hours of perma-Rage and I can't say I've ever actually noticed the def debuff. Been detoggled by the end drop, but that's about the worst of it. 10 seconds is all; if dull pain, inspirations, unstoppable, toggles, aid self, teammates, etc can't keep you from faceplanting during a ten second span, you may actually be playing a blaster. We're not even talking about a big Unstoppable-style crash, just a little shot to your def and losing a bit of endurance. It's not a big deal, in my opinion it isn't even an issue.

Rage has a 20% Defense Debuff that starts and ends at the same time as the 'Only Affects Self' period. It's very easy to determine when you are more vulnerable.

Castle, could you look at SS endurance bug. I have an ss brute and ss tank, same powers.

The ss brute (with same slotting) can not sustain the same amount of attacks. Its almost unplayable. Compared to all my other brutes/scrappers/tanks, only ss on brute side seems to have a -rec power to self.

Can you look at that instead?
and oh, fix the brute pvp fury bug too. thx

I'd be all for a taunt aura accompanying the rage crash. At least on my tank, might hurt a bit on my brute, but I would live with it. And it makes since conceptually speaking that your opponent would notice your fatigue and seize the opportunity. Not sure there would need to be any balancing for this, as it has both positive and negative effects for the player

Regardless PLEASE consider some type of visual cue that one is in a rage crash. This would make me feel tons better if my team mates could distinquish this as easily as one can tell when an ice tank is hibernating
