Even better how about you make an actual contribution to pvp in this game and let us have selectable arena maps. Heck Id settle with you just removing the stupid pocket D cage map. Im probably asking for something way too brainbusting for you to accomplish though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey Castle, I just want to apologize for some of my fellow players like this doush here.
Thanks for the heads up that you're looking into pvp issues and for being willing to listen to our suggestions. -
[ QUOTE ]
Never heard of tracking cookies, or spyware? Where have you been?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes that would be a great way to get more people into the game. Let's put spyware on people's computers. I'm sure no one would notice and if they did no one would complain about it. It's not like it would tarnish the reputation of the entire company or cause a mass exodus of customers or anything. Just think about what you're saying for a second.
[ QUOTE ]
They'll get players to turn on ads by indirectly laying on the guilt. Few to no viewers of ads, you know - those that opt out, mean less or no revenue from advertisers. Read the press releases, listen to the radio interview. They don't make money from it if you don't see it. End of story.
[/ QUOTE ]
So what now you're afraid of them guilting you into turning the ads back on? The fact that they want people to see them is a positive incentive to make them as unobtrusive as possible.
[ QUOTE ]
I have never seen players asking for in game ads. Quite the opposite. It may have been "brought up" but in the context of, "I hope you don't put in game ads in."
[/ QUOTE ]
Then I don't know what to tell you except that you're wrong. I've seen more than one thread on these boards over the years suggesting that they put ads in the game to create additional revenue streams. From what I recall most people thought it was a fine idea.
[ QUOTE ]
I've never seen one interview or press release where players were informed that NCSoft was being hounded by companies like this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Neither have I. Then again I wouldn't expect them to. Why would they issue a press release about something like that? -
[ QUOTE ]
Are they going to poll you, or spy on you? How are they going to know what you're interested in?
[/ QUOTE ]
A fair question I guess. A poll asking what types of advertising people would be most interested in (ie Movies, Games, Drinks, etc) would not be unheard of. As for the spying comment I'm going to assume you're being facetious because it's such a ridiculous idea.
[ QUOTE ]
If enough people don't opt-in it won't be profitable for them. No profits means no extra money for extra game development. They are going to do everything they can to get people to see, or want to see those ads.
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course they will. What would expect them to *not* want people to see the ads? Don't be silly. They want as many people as possible to be comfortable with viewing these ads. If they make them overly intrusive or start forcing them down people's throats then they're going to lose subscriptions which will cost them more money then the advertising would generate. So there's really no danger of that happening. .
[ QUOTE ]
They had always planned this, they tested the reaction when they mentioned it the first time. I think most people weren't for it back then. But tell me....WHAT players have been asking for this? WHAT press has been asking them why they don't have it? How come WE never saw these questions in all the press releases, interviews, and forum threads? Because it's bull?
[/ QUOTE ]
Where have you been? It's been brought up on these boards many times by players since CoH was first launched.
[ QUOTE ]
So they don't know how much money, if any, this will make. It depends on how many people view the ads. 95% of the players opting out is NOT going to make extra revenue to better the game. It's all RP spin. And what, they're suddenly looking at doubling the player base so that if half the players (the amount they now have) look at the ads it's a success? Why did they not try to double the player base before ads? HOW are they planning to double the player base? I don't know why players are not questioning this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because there's nothing to question. In case you haven't noticed they've been really investing back into the game since the big purchase. They didn't do all this stuff before that because a different group was running the show. They're starting to hire more people to increase the size of their staff, they're seriously trying to grow the playerbase for this game again.
I honestly can't believe you're crying doom over the fact that he said they're trying to increase the size of their playerbase. It's mind-boggling.
[ QUOTE ]
I guess fantasy and high fantasy have something going for them. There's no "realistic" way to incorporate ads into those games. Thank God.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes limiting access to an additional source of revenue, one that players can freely ignore if they want, is such a huge plus. -
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
I'm really looking forward to having this information in game. Along with the new attributes window it is one of the best enhancements added to the game since launch.
Thank you for finally showing us what the real numbers are behind our powers so we can make more informed choices. This enhancement is nothing but pure win. -
Edit: Thank you for putting the polls back up so that we all can have our say.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Let me get this straight. This poll was open for less than 1 day?
[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously what the heck?!?! -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't believe anyone's heard anything from the Vanguard since their billboards (and the chest symbol with NPC groups... Hm...), it's possible they've gone corrupt since then.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yesterday I noticed that some of the NPC's in game are now talking about the Vanguard as well. I clicked on a pedestrian and they mentioned something about Lady Grey. -
[ QUOTE ]
But yeah, why the heck was Statesman in there? But then, alot of those video game characters were just PRETTY looking, and at least a few "violent" scenes weren't violent at all, just unusual and strange (like the guy being empowerd by that purple lightning)
[/ QUOTE ]
My most favorite thing about that is that they actually included a clip from one of the Myst games in there.
Myst!?! For crying out loud! -
[ QUOTE ]
but doesnt that make it an exploit too according to some?
Nice, so skill is an exploit, and usuing powers as designed is an exploit......... Guess leveling is an exploit!!!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should actually read Castle's response before going off the deep end. -
[ QUOTE ]
Theoretically, Ice Armor can duck the rage crash by hibernating. Since you can't affect anything else anyway, there's no cost to hibernate, and you are invulnerable while hibernating. And it cycles fast enough to be available every rage crash, with appropriate slotting.
Also: hibernate has +recovery. My guess is that ten seconds of hibernation gets you close to a full bar of endurance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Excellent point. You can't affect anyone else anyway so might as well go invulnerable and get a full bar of health and endurance back while you're just standing there. And perhaps more importantly, the hibernate animation is a signal to the rest of your team that you are in crash mode. Far from kicking Ice/ in the teeth, you could make the case that Ice/ deals with the crash better than any other. -
[ QUOTE ]
BS. It's exploiting a bug. No matter now much skill or cleverness it requires to pull off, it's still an exploit.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would hesitate to use the word "exploit". Either way I don't believe it's what Castle was referring to when he used the word "bug". He was talking about stacking Rage not causing an endurance loss. -

Interestingly, while researching this problem, I discovered that Gauntlet from pool powers like Boxing or Air Superiority have, apparently, never worked. That'll be fixed as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interestingly, I think reputable people on these boards have been saying that for as long as I can remember and I've been here since I3. I just figured that it had been ignored for so long that it was "working as intended".
I don't know if I'm happy that it's getting fixed after years of not working, or disappointed that it was never taken seriously enough for someone to at least just take a peek until now.
[/ QUOTE ]
It had been addressed before, even by Castle about all of the tank attacks having gauntlet. It has been presented in the forum about how the epics did not. My searchfu is not finding the exact thread I wanted, but this linky shows where Castle addressed it.
IMO, I think it was supposed to be there, especially from his statement, but some coding was glossed over when actually applied to tanks.
I can understand why it was missed on all of the powers not in the primary/secondary of a tank because they are used by other AT's.
This does confirm that gauntlet is not working as intended or how the red's thought it was working.
BTW Castle, nerf Frozen Aura, it is just way too powerful.
[/ QUOTE ]
But that's what I mean.
People reported it wasn't working. They came back and said it was. They were wrong. Obviously I don't think they were lying, which means somewhere in the chain of events someone didn't take our concerns seriously enough to actually investigate and find out what was really going on. They just took the quick route and came back with "Yep it's working" in order to placate us, when really it never has in all this time. That is what's disappointing.
How are we supposed to have confidence in the answers they give us if something like this can go on for years without them noticing? I know the next time they answer a question telling us something is working fine there's going to be a little voice in the back of head saying "Yeah but is it *really* working, or is it working like they thought gauntlet was working?".
Anyway, like I said just very disappointing. Thank you Castle for fixing it though. -

Doesn't the Positron Task Force revolve around 3 factions trying to control the damn in Faultline? Will the zone change necessitate a change to the TF?
[/ QUOTE ]
As I recall the last mission in that Task Force "save the Dam!" takes place in Perez Park of all places.
It would be nice, but doubtful it will be modified. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wish I could ice-slide or websling also; that would be really cool
[/ QUOTE ]
If you get the Deluxe edition you can "powerslide". Not quite the same as ice-sliding, instead of ice you get purpley light effects and no vertical movement, but the body stance is there. -
[ QUOTE ]
Have the devs posted what rewards are or the criteria for getting them?
[/ QUOTE ]
The only thing that has been revealed so far is that one of the first rewards is a trechcoat costume piece. I believe for 3 months of subscription time. Everything else is guesswork unless confirmed by a Dev. -

Was my mission bugged then or what? I'm almost positive that I was getting more than one bonus for destroying the same type of objects. ie destroy 1 car, time bonus! destroy a few more cars, time bonus! etc. etc. Im sure I got a time bonus for the same types of objects more than once. Also you get time bonuses for "resisting arrest" (ie defeating police), and Im sure I got that one multiple times as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
So I hear, but that would have to be a bug. The briefing I posted a picture of in the original post clearly indicates a single time bonus for destroying items of a given kind.
Resisting Arrest, on the other hand, is given out for each group of police-like enemies you defeat, as well as when Longbow soldiers spawn on the map.
[/ QUOTE ]
Im wondering if it's possible to read it a different way. Such that you get 1 time bonus for one box, then 1 time bonus for five boxes, then 1 for ten boxes, then 1 for 20 etc. etc.
I have no idea how it works and am mostly guessing here, but something like that would fit much more closely to my personal experience then a "only 1 time bonus ever for each type of item". I am positive that I received more than 1 time bonus for different item types. I was in the mission for over a half hour and still had over 15 mins left on the timer when I finished so I dont know how that is possible otherwise, on the third level of difficulty no less. So either they are bugged, the mission briefing is wrong, or we're reading it wrong. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not asking for the sky. I'm just asking for a little more time, maybe 20 minutes to start with. I'm asking for time bonuses for destroying things not limited by the "one time only" rule. I'm asking for the heist itself to provide a time bonus after defeating the hero.

[ QUOTE ]
Have you tried running them solo? There's usually more than enough time to see the whole map if you keep destroying things.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ive found this as well on my Corruptor. Did my first ever Mayhem Mission yesterday, Talos map. When I started out I looked at the timer and thought I was for sure going to fail, having no idea what I was doing and with only 15 mins to do it, plus possible side missions.
Well I just went around destroying a bunch of things, defeating PPDs and Longbow ambushes, and low and behold the time kept adding up and adding up. Found and defeated some Freak tanks and it turned out they had keys, so I went to check out the side missions. Earned more time, defeated more ambushes, and almost got killed when facing a PPD boss for the first time. Looked at my map, thought "hmm what's this jail marker?", so I went to check it out and found a villain npc in jail and busted her out earning more time.
Eventually after about 40mins or so of play on this one mission, which was a complete blast, I had completed 3 side missions plus the main mission, defeated the hero npc, earned 2 temp powers, and I had more time left than what I started with.
I guess I found that destroying boxes, cars, and the like as you're moving around the mission really helps. Those 30s and 1min bonuses can really add up. If you just attack things as you're passing by, most things will die in one-shot so it's not really costing you any time to do so. And if you have any AoEs things can really add up fast. I got great mileage out of just finding a good spot and using Frost Breath or Ice Storm to destroy half a dozen things at once, earning two or three time bonuses. -
Well I bugged it on Test Server, then I posted in this thread over a month ago, now it's still there when I7 goes Live and Ive bugged it there. So now to complete the circle I will re-post again in this thread.

Everytime I try to get the "Globe" symbol to appear it comes out as the "Biohazard" symbol on any of the new base items (wall banners, podium, table, etc.)
(The Globe symbol is the one that shows the skeleton view of a globe, not the one which shows continents).
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesnt seem like it should be a very difficult fix, probably just an incorrect value in a table somewhere. As long as this bug exists no Supergroups (like mine) who use the "Globe" symbol can make use of any of the new decorative items for their base.

[ QUOTE ]
you know, that's a good point.
If there was a limit on how quickly someone could raid the storage bins, that prevent some problems. If you see 10 enhancements disappear to a character of the wrong origin, you can ask them what's up, or explain how it's better that they beg for infamy from the group instead of selling the enhancements. If you see 100 disappeared yesterday, it's a bit too late for anything like that.
of course, you could still get someone inviting 10 different friends into the group, promoting them, and having them run off with stuff in small batches. but again, there's no way to prevent griefers, we just need to make things more difficult for them to minimize the amount of people you have to chase after later.
[/ QUOTE ]
This was actually discussed with my VG in a joking manner. However, in that conversation, if our VG members could infiltrate other VG's and bring back items they would get promotions, etc.
So, I am actually pointing out something that others are drooling about doing and won't post about it.
BUG BADGE Please Dev's
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe Im just not understanding the exploit here, but are normal enhancements really that difficult to come by? What is the big gain here? You're basically revealing to the entire community that you're a big jerk by doing something like this, and for very little gain.
To me it's kind of like going to all your neighbours houses and stealing all their apples. I mean hey, free apples. But now all your neighbours are pissed off at you, and did you really gain that much? I mean you could have just gone to the store and bought some apples. -
[ QUOTE ]
So yeah, in addittion to concept I do have a valid reason to have oil slick required to be manually lit. They just need to balance the ease and ability of lighting it among secondaries.
Where is my zappy arrow?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would be happy with them making Blazing Arrow a very small (say 5') AoE of 0.1pt of Fire dmg. That way I could attack something and light the slick at the same time.
Or add Toxic dmg to the list of things that will light it so I can start it with Acid Arrow.
Or add/change Explosive Arrow to do part energy or fire dmg. But this is my least favorite since most Archers skip this power. -

So, I don't know if any of you have been reading the thread aboutt he Recluse SF contest, but below is a post that just went up in that thread. I'm pasting it in here becuase I think it's a pretty solid example of exactly what the majority of the Dom community has been worried about happening:
[/ QUOTE ]
It just shows how ignorant a lot of people are about dominators' abilities. My dom eats AVs for lunch... with domination up. That's the key. Get dom up. Of course, people can debate that that shouldn't be necessary, but hey. It is what it is. That SF screams for dominators if you ask me. FIVE lvl 54 heroes? Only way to take them out is to mez a couple perma-like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm. I wonder if 8 Mind/ Dominators with Domination up would be able to perma-confuse Statesman into pwning his 4 friends for you. -

Two things:
1) Reading the article, I can't help but wonder where the PPD suddenly got all this funding. From scaredy cats who don't even have GUNS to highly trained agents and man-sized robot drones?? Please let there be some kind of justification for this.
2) I love Blue Steel just as he is. Sure, I'd like to see him in a mission or something, but anyone who makes fun of him will have to answer to me. Actually I kind of like the fact that he quietly hangs out and watches over King's Row without ever making any headlines. He's not even subtle in a kewl Manticore kind of way - he's the real thing, a guy doing a tough job without caring about recognition.
Sign me up to take Blue Steel as my Patron when CoH Patron Pools are implemented.
[/ QUOTE ]
probably from manticore, hes a rich dude.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah but Manticore is already funding his own little army.
If anyone I would suspect Crey. They've been working on powered battlesuits for awhile now anyway. -
I had good and bad experiences in RV. My Domintor experience was very bad, got killed alot and was not very effective. My Tanker and Brute experience was good though, killed a bit and was very survivable.
Oh, and my Trick Arrow Defender had lots of fun annoying Stalkers with DoT. And I found Oil Slick + Rain of Arrows to be a very effective counter to Mastermind armies.
