Official Thread: Performance Issues
Id like to know why my game is suffering so bad. My computer is more than adequate for this game and before this patch I would play but I hate nasty little freezes and stopped playing. Thats when I had only 512 megs of ram. Now comming back after the patch with 1.5 gigs of memory, it plays WORSE. And its not my memory. I have my game on the Second last tab of the video settings "Recommended" and the video lag is NASTY, very low FPS.
Radeon 9800xt
1.5 Gigs of Ram
80 gig HD
2 3.0 gig hyperlinked processors. Pent 4.
In a nutshell thats my system. Why is it sucking so hard?
Since Issue 8 went live, I've been having the following odd graphical problem:
Sometimes after zoning (either to a city zone or a mission map), the frame rate will drop to 5-10 fps, the game refuses to render capes, and all text becomes garbled. The /reloadgfx command does not fix this. So far I have found only two things that will make the problem go away.
1) Zoning again. Most of the time this fixes the issue. Sometimes it does not, however.
2) Exiting and restarting the game. This fixes the problem 100% of the time.
I have not been able to identify the cause of this issue, as it appears to be totally random. I have noticed, though, that it seems to happen more often when I am on teams.
Also, I have noticed severe performance drops when grouping with fire controllers using fire cages. Every time a fire controller uses this power, my frame rate drops down to slide show levels, and will not go back up until the power ends.
Edited to add: I never had any performance issues prior to I8 unless I was in extremely large battles against GM's. Since I8 I've had to lower all settings to the minimum and still have issues.
I've been experiencing persistant rubberbanding since I8 came out. It's been happening in every zone and in every mission.
I have 1Gb of RAM, a 256Mb GEForce 5700, am running up to date WinXP, and installed the latest NVidia video driver.
Before I8 I occasionally experienced rubberbanding, but then everyone on the team experienced it at the same time so that meant it was server load. But now I'm getting rubberbanded all the time and no one else on the team is experiencing it, not even fellow players that are in the same city I'm in.
There are also times when I'm getting rubberbanded and I can't activate any of my powers or use Chat, but I'm taking damage and can see read other player's chat, so it's like I'm recieving data fine but not sending it.
Add me to the list of folks with problems...
After i8 I experience FPS in teamed missions comparable to what used to only go on at a GM battle with 20+ heroes.

Last night I remembered the troubleshooting tips in the tech support forum and decided to give them a try. I don't know if it was coincidence (that my ISP fixed something) but the first thing I tried did the trick: ipconfig /flushdns. After I did that I only rubberbanded 3 times over the course of an hour and a half (and none of them last more than a 1/2-1 second).
yeah Fire Cages is one of the bad ones... it might always affect performance now, but it really hammers it into the ground on certain maps if it intersects with a wall.
splat goes the effect. splat goes my now single-digit framerate.

The memory leak is back as well. Que surprise.

So that was actually fixed? I never heard one way or the other and have been not so eagerly approaching 40 with my main villain because I didn't want to go anywhere NEAR Grandville. Solvang will be quite pleased if it IS fixed in Grandville.
......just hopin
It was better than it was right after I7's release. I hadn't had any problems for a few months, though I don't go in Grandville. No villains high enough.

EVGA Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra AGP 256
Windows XP Pro SP2
My Experience in I8:
All combats are huge performance hits, the more on the team the worse it is.
I have had 3 instances so far when changing zones via tram or tunnel, when I enter the new zone my windows on the screen are just blocks, green, grey, pink, red blocks, and the powers, like Super Speed, have blocky effects. More importantly, I couldn't see messages of any kind. I couldn't log off if I wanted to. I was able to fix it luckily all 3 times by entering a tunnel to another zone or just blind clicking a zone at the tram.
On 2 occasions I have crashed to desktop for no appahrent reason. The first time I clicked on a fellow D3 to see their info. On the second I had just logged in with my 50 and I mean just logged in and crashed to desktop for no reason. Both crashes occured while nothing was going on, meaning not in any CPU intensive task like battles and such.
Hope this helps the devs.
My SG ran through Police Band missions in the new Faultline last Thursday and we ran through a number of tests to try to narrow down our performance issues. We tried only using certain powers...only using certain powers around certain environment textures (walls, reflections and such) and got nothing consistent. At one point, we thought we had it narrowed down to sound, of all things, and even that didn't pan out for everyone.
So after an evening of frustrating troubleshooting, the only thing that I found in common, and is the one thing that I'm seeing in these threads, is:
- The folks that were having issues are running GeForce 6xxx and older.
- The folks running GeForce 7800 or better had no issues.

Uh, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, but I'm pretty sure it's not correct. Certain power effects are causing problems across the board. Whether or not you notice it is a different matter.

I have a Geforce 6200 in my laptop and my roommate has a 7800, both experiencing performance issues in battles, d/c's, etc. since I8.
Video assumption FTL!
GPU: Geforce 6600GT (most up to date drivers)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200
Ram: 1 gb dual channel PC3200
On team larger than 3 during battles I get FPS around 5, any other time it seems to be fine hovering around 45 in the mission. It does not seem to be server lag, just client lag in FPS. I have turned down all my effects to no avail.
Has anyone test anything on the test server to see if it has been fixed or addressed?
I average three to five client crashes a week since issue 8. I had one client crash in 18 months before issue 8. Running 1 gig RAM, ATI x1600 256mb, direct x 9.0c, Intel 4 3.06 ghz. Everytime I go to log back on I get a 2.3 gb download/patch before I can log on again.
Also, Kheldians experiencing some awesome graphics glitches. Go to "squid" form and you fly with powers but do not show in form, rather as human. To all others in game, you appear in squid form. Click on SG costume settings AFTER going to a form, hit cancel on costume changes in SG, then hit jump or any of the a,s,w,d keys and get police shields, the vomit graphics from cov, shooting a gun movement, the teleport for mushroom mishes in croatoa, few more as well. Lots of fun but I am sure lots of issues. No one can see you do them, only appears for us on our comp.

same here only i have a 7600GS
i had all kinds of custom settings in I7 and they worked great... but last night in a last ditch effort to actually enjoy playing made some desperate changes.
[in the card's driver settings. not the game]
* AntiAliasing to x2
* Triple Buffering to ON
* Verticle Sync to ON
[then in the game's settings]
* disabled advanced setings and slid the slider all the way to the lowest setting
* brought the 3d resolution up to match the main resolution **
** i can't remember the exact names for these settings since i am at work, but it's the one where you can have the 3d part at a different resolution to the main/gui resolution? i used to have the main/gui res at 1280x1024 and the 3d down to something like 1024x672 or something... but for these tests i put it back up to match the main/gui res.
so anyway... that made the game playable even on a team with a Fire Controller. by "playable" i mean i almost never went into single digit framerates (more like 14-20 during firecages or certain areas on CoT maps). i still felt like i had some control in big battles (though still nowhere near as much as even a large GM or AV battle in I7) and it didn't look too gross. not as pretty as it should, but not blocky or blurry.
*sigh*
this might last me till they finally fix it.

I've had similar problems to what's listed here, on a similar system, only I have twice as much RAM.

Yeeeeah, we ran again last night and we think we've found at least one thing that makes it seem better -- turn off sound.
My wife runs an Athlon 64 3000, 1GB of RAM, GeForce 6600 (SLI). She was having sporadic problems and once I set sound FX and music to 0 (3d acceleration was already turned off and quality left at "performance"), her lag cleared up.
Her sound is onboard from a Gigabyte board. My sound is a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.
So...maybe that?
...maybe..?
As of yestedays patch, I'm getting insane amounts of lag while my contacts window is open. Anyone else seeing that?
Been getting that since cov first went live so that is nothing new.

I've had that since I8. Only with contacts open and it causes video stuttering as well.
dual 7900 GTXs (although SLI is off right now)
latest drivers as of early nov
2GB high perf ram
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ overclocked to 2.5Ghz
I'm mostly fine, but I'm occasionally getting weird lag bursts. I *think* they're tied to fire effects. Last night we were running the defeat Chimera, and we had 7. Everything was fine, smooth. A fire tank joined. Ugh. Lag bursts - it seemed like they were timed at first with his pulses of Blazing Aura. This is the second time I've thought: hmm, it seems like the fire power caused this, but the other was last week, so I've forgotten exactly what happened last week.
