I hope you're right. I just recently rolled my first Stalker (MA/Nin) and I'm luvin' it except I noticed the placate bug. came on the forum to check it out. First toon I can safely not take Stamina for and it's a melee toon of all things.

So this is a PvP issue not a PvE issue I assume?

Or does this effect PvE Placate usage?

No, it's a problem with both. Moreso in PvE, I would say.

How exactly does the bug work in PvE?

I think I have been seeing it on my Elec/Regen, and I never noticed it on my EM/Nin...

Pretty frequently I'll placate (I've noticed this on bosses and maybe 1 LT, never a minion) and they Seem to be placated and then half a second later (whether I do anything or not) they see me again and start attacking, often interrupting an AS.

What is causing that? How can I work around it?

If any effect remains on them originating from the Placater after the instant they become Placated, it un-placates them. This includes stuns, sleeps (even the mag 2 ones against a lt or boss, that don't appear to do anything because they're protected against), debuffs, Demoralize, etc.

Ah, I see, that is a bug, it's only supposed to be Damage that does that, right?



Well, adding Demoralize to AS seems to have exacerbated this bug. Maybe, since this is the last thing Stalkers can really complain about, Castle can give this a looksee soon.

Just a couple months ago a few tanks were having some problems with gauntlet not working. *gasp*
Not game breaking in any way, but still a problem that needed to be fixed. So, all the servers were brought down during the day to fix it.

I couldn't agree more, it's annoying to see that a tanker bug which was in existence that wasn't game breaking or made the tankers not tank well, yet the servers were brought down for what 3 hours? Just to fix this bug and yet placate is still not fixed.

As of the last patch, being placated now counts as a status effect due to it's ability to prevent you from targetting the placater. This should alleviate the current incarnation of the placate bug by having placate break placate. We hope this solves the problem.

Placate is broke again on live, the demoralize from AS and some other status effects cause PvE (And PvP) targets to ignore the placate and continue smacking you around (Things like the -recov from elec melee, darks -tohit, etc.)

Just found that on live after the new patch with my elec/Regen

nin/nin here: plac works if absolutely nothing else is going on, basically. i'm considering speccing out of it until it's fixed tbh. At the moment it's basically a wasted slot: when it's needed, it fails. When it functions, it's only good for comedic value.

Of course i'm all in favor of comedic value, so maybe i'll keep it. better yet, tho, FICKS NAO PLZ.

by the by, this was important when i started and is probably still true now:

yeah, sometimes it doesn't work when it should. BUT, something i see that trips people up is TIMING IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you try hitting a Plac when your target is in the middle of an attack animation, your plac will go off very fast, then you will get smacked by the attack in progress, and you will instantly be visible again and further subject to smacking.

During the Rikti event so far i have been able to placate in the middle of the mob to my heart's content with rare exception, largely because the target is not hitting me. The target is frequently under all sorts of other effects, but since it was otherwise occupied, a quick plac->AS goes off before it can do anything about it.

Solo, watch timing on the target's attacks. A good thing to do is GD or SD or even ASup - anything with knockdown or knockup. This greatly minimizes the chance of you getting hit with anything before the AS goes off. Buildup, <knockup>, plac, AS, laugh.

This isn't a "well this should work lol" suggestion, this is something I do all the time.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why don't the Devs just make a new addition to all stalker powers, when you click any attack you turn bright pink and start flashing, then after 2 seconds take 18000 damage. Since they apparently wont do anything to fix Placate. Why doesn't it work in PVP like it does in PVE?? it works fine there, both when we placate enemies and when we are placated by them. Why do they refuse to fix something that is obviously broken? Lets recap what we know... Stalkers have less health, defense, and damage as Scrappers. Our best defense is to stay hidden, and strike when the time is right. By stacking Stealth, Stealth IO, and Hide we have a Stealth range of 1143(around this) Now the perception cap is 5 less than max stealth, so 1138. However the catch is anytime we move into the range of some enemy's aura power, (ie hot feet, rise to the challenge, chilling embrace) it negates your Stealth and Stealth IO, now our stealth range is reduced to 500 (from hide) and yet everyones perception is still at 1138. So now if we have attacked already and left a mark on the enemy (ie.. -def etc) our placate is worthless. What part of THIS POWER IS BROKE DONT YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This seriously needs to be fixed.

Wow...........just wow.

You must be doing something terribly wrong on your stalker.
Ok, if a controller has hot feet down, you obviously can't AS. Do the next best thing, total focus while hidden which crits and it'll stun them. While they're popping that BF, either placate + AS, or just straight up ET them and try to finish them off.

I agree that placate being bugged is annoying and should be fixed, but there's not need to come off like it's absolutely game breaking. It's annoying, but jeez calm down.

I have never experienced this bug on my claws/SR stalker. When the target has the defense debuff from Slash on it, or the Fear effect from an assassin strike, Placate works without a problem. I have been un-hidden when I placate the target as it is attacking me (and hits) but even then it does not target me. Am I just lucky??

yea i dont notice problems in PvE, since only AVs and EBs can 1 to 2 shot me. but in PvP where almost everything can, i notice it all the time. Spent some time in the arena yesterday with friends and compared different senerios.

Especially not in PvP. The one advantage Scrappers have is AoE, and that does diddly squat in PvP.
