So not really sure what to do at this point, I guess play until the proverbial plug is pulled but I won't be putting in the time as much anymore on making new chars, etc, not with the death penalty so close behind me.

[/ QUOTE ]

[Cher]Snap out of it![/Cher] If "close behind" is the 2-3 years it will take for MUO to be even in beta, I would hate to see what "far out" looks like to you. Enjoy the game, don't worry, be happy, <insert your favorite (perhaps more recent) cliche here>

There are a lot more things to worry about what will happen 2-3 years from now when MUO comes out. Stop reading the CoX boards and head over to CNN.com if you want something to be depressed about.

hahaha...

Half an hour later, and *snip*!

Must have been because the thread was so OT, and there was a whole other thread specifically designated for the Marvel disucssion. Just glad the thread's back on track.

As far as "the end of CoX", it will be over when players start leaving. Saying the game is dead is like telling Ray that the piano has no play left in it. And look what happened there (if anyone gets the reference I'll be suprised).

I for one don't plan on going anywhere for a while. If all my coalition mates were to leave tomorrow, I'd start thinking. But besides the game itself (which is still very enjoyable IMHO), it's also the people that keep me playing. CoX is where all me friends are

I sure do hope they fix the LRSF before they bring a statesman SF.

It's a shame the letter didnt mention anything regarding to villain epic ATs. Thats what I want to know about the most atm.

What about the Legends System ???!!!! Posi mentioned a legends system that would give us a reason to play our level 50's again and I have heard nothing about that since it was mentioned.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

About every other issues something is mentioned that will work as a concern for "End game" content. It never quite seems to materialize beyond wanting to get the new badges for older toons.

Positron...can you please undo the nerfs? Take a look at Tankers...they are husks. Please breathe life back into them. I don't want to use the word 'suck', but I cannot apply a more meaningful, less offensive term to their performance.

IMHO, that's a secular opinion. I also don't think this is the proper forum to talk about specific ATs or "cantankerous malcontention"; there's a whole section of the boards for that purpose.

That's not a bad idea.

But he's not suffering from that, he's suffering from "can't-tank-er-ous malcontention!"

Great idea. Comdemn a game before you've seen anything about it other than Marvel and Cryptic are working together to make it.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure why someone should be all that optimistic or pessimistic about the Marvel/Microsoft deal. While the potential is there for 'blue skies' results for MUO and CoX, there are several concerns as well. I'm not sure why discussion of that should stop now, considering that people have been discussing just this scenario since MUO was first announced many moons ago.

Microsoft's track record is mixed at best, there's been many long-winded discussions over the last couple of years about how there are more pitfalls to creating a superhero MMOG using pre-existing corporate IP as opposed to studio owned IP, and most people remember how well having "two separate dev teams" worked with CoV. This deal has obvious benefits for Cryptic Studios, but I'd have to agree that for current subscribers all this deal does is create this big unknown factor for the next couple years. Cryptic doesn't have a sterling track record of developing two properties with similar code bases and engines, let alone a track record of managing two dev teams working on completely different code bases and engines. In fact, few studios have a good track record of developing multiple MMOGs - this isn't just a concern because Cryptic is doing it.

I wish Cryptic the best, honestly. I just don't think anyone should get too excited or depressed at this news. How can anybody outside of Cryptic and Marvel and Microsoft feel anything about this, really? There are far too many unproven, unknown factors involved as far as the consumer is concerned.

It's interesting, and that's about it, as far anyone outside the company can judge at this point.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree Clinton but with an added Caveate. What will add interest and intrigue to all of this will be what DC will do because they too are abiout to enter into the world of MMOs.
I cannot say that this will be bad or good either but it will be interesting.

Both of these comic giants have alot to bring to the table, both are well established with countless villain and hero groups, with rich storylines that would be a boon to storyline gaming. For example, Crisis on infinite Earth, or the Genosha saga. So cross you fingers and toes boys and girls, the ride is about to get bumpy.

Not to be a downer, but DC has paired up with SOE, maker of such excellent games as EQ and EQ2, as well as fine titles like Star Wars Galaxies and Matrix Online. I'm truly hoping that they'll be able to offer some decent competition to the table, since competition usually spurs improvement in any industry, but I have my reservations.
