Rumors and lies!

There were so many problems with exploits that the devs regularly remove elements from the game that allow unbalanced XP gain. Remember the Winter Lord fiasco?

I think the announcement applies to the test server.

Um, you'd be wrong.

The announcement from CuppaJoe is for this weekend for the test server, but the (unofficial) announcement for the live server is for the weekend of the 21st...

That "announcement" is only three sentences long and says NOTHING about the live server.

The MMORPG.com new story can be found here. Here's the full quote they give:

[ QUOTE ]
NCsoft gives heroes and villains a boost with double XP weekend for City of Heroes and City of Villains July 21-23

NCsoft is giving City of Heroes and City of Villains players a boost to their characters with a “Double XP Weekend” where players will earn twice the usual experience points for all activities that result in an XP reward.

The double XP weekend will start at 9 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, July 21 and ends on Sunday, July 23 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time.

The “Double XP Weekend” will give players the opportunity to level up their characters and gain access to many of the new features available in both City of Heroes and City of Villains.

The “City of” games have recently been updated with Issue 7: Destiny Manifest which introduced the action-packed mayhem missions to City of Villains and added the PvP zone, Recluse’s Victory, where heroes and villains fight for control over a future version of Atlas Park.

For more information on the “Double XP Weekend” go to www.cityofheroes.com or www.cityofvillains.com.

It could be real, the same announcement showed up on Warcry. Very cool if it is, I've got some characters that could use some leveling!

...

You've got to be [censored] kidding me.

What possible purpose does this serve? Was anyone really having a PROBLEM getting enough XP in the first place?

If they're trying to 'make something up to us', how about something that, you know, isn't in abundant supply in the first place, like another freespec??

I would seriously rather have nothing than this, I outlevel my arcs fast enough as it is.

Posted

Heh, I was wondering how long it would be before someone showed up to complain about it.

Here's what you can do:

a) Not play that weekend
b) Play lowbie characters or others that aren't in danger of outleveling arcs
c) Hit the debt cap to slow your leveling speed down
d) Exemplar to halt XP gain completely

Darnit, figures I'm on vacation... would like to get a few concept toons on virtue up there a bit

Honestly, I'd rather not mess with experience. Sure, a day ago I was desperate enough to level up and get some frikkin' missions, but that's smallminded thinking in a bind.

What purpuse does this serve, really? To make people level up faster? To do what? Run out of content faster? It seems very counter-productive to a game that prides itself on the journey to hotwire its experience system in such a way. And, as we noticed with the "just log in and get a level 40 NOW" event on Test, people will froth at the mouth and turn this assumedly kind gesture into an absurd excession.

I don't think it's needed at all. Furthermore, I think it will do more harm than good. Shortcuts like this only serve to drive people nuts, and that's a picture I really don't want to see. We've seen glimpses of this when massively rewarding exploits were found in the past, and we've seen groutesc excessions when those were schedualed to be closed in a short amount of time as people scrambled to abuse every last second of it. We saw the Winter Lord event, we saw Wolf, Dreck, then Barakuda farming, we saw Karken farming, we saw what the Test Recluse's Victory event did.

A double experience event, which I rather doubt is really coming, would be little more than a legalised version of the above, but even better as it's more streamlined and less restrictive, AND stackable with current "uber XP" methods. It's not only counter-productive and counter intuitive, it seems outright stupid to do something like this, and I'm afraid the game will become a bad place to be for a while after this is over, and especially while it's in effect. People have shown they have no concept of measure, so I cannot hope to expect any moderation in the "use" of such an event, were it implemented. I just don't trust people to NOT ruin a good thing.

Yeah, I could do that. I don't want to, though, and assuming that this is intended as compensation for being inconvenienced, it fails, as it gives me nothing that I want and in fact marginally inconveniences me further.

Hence the complaint.

According to Cuppa, it doubles XP, Influ, and Prestige.

This will be a great test opportunity for me. Try out all sorts of oddball combinations without it taking too long.

That said, I could just play my main and try to hit 50.....

Nah!

Meh. Was afraid something like this was coming considering they've been testing it. I don't want to outlevel arcs on my Warshade, so I guess he gets a vacation. Maybe I'll break out my level 50 and get prestige or finish off those inf badges those.

MMORPGs are the perfect example of being able to please some of the people some of the time, but never being able to please all of the people all of the time.

lol, yeah. I'm not really mad that i'm missing out on double XP. The more i get to play my mains, the happier i am. What made me mad was the notion that this is going to be our compensation for the Global problems.

Anything they picked as compensation would anger someone.

If it were a free respec, people who still have their I7 freespec would be mad.

If it were just the ability to change your global name again, people who have the global they want and don't need to change would feel ripped off.

If it were just another jingle jet temp power, the same people who complained that it was useless to them during the Holiday Event would complain.

So they are between a rock and a hard place no matter what they do here. Double XP has been something other MMOs have done and is something a lot of people have asked for in the two plus years this game has been live.

Some people will complain about anything.

Just think, this is your chance to get a tough build to the level for stamina... to get that character past the high 30s where you run out of missions... to make that final push to 50.... to make a brand new alt and get it to 14 for a travel power.

So many opportunities, but some people see nothing but sour grapes. It's hard to believe.

Heh, i usually have confidence in the Dev's decisions about the game, (ie:I5 and ED we're so bad looking before implemented, to finally be -for the most parts- a good thing for the game overall) BUT! i'm not sure about this one
Given the history of game balancing/fixing/nerfing, i really didnt saw this one coming! On the other hand, CoH changed 'administration' not too long ago...could that have something to do?

I'm just wondering

why?

I really dont see it. This is not even looking like an 'event' per se. Nothing new, nothing special...just xp...it really bugs meh!
