Ran a Grandville mayhem mission last night. Here was the team:

41 Corr
40 MM
40 Brute
39 Brute

After we finally beat the mission, the three of us that were 40+ got the temp power (Life Insurance), but the 39 Brute did not. (We checked his autopowers... he definitely didn't get it).

Is this is by design, not rewarding the temp powers to people below the zone level of the mayhem mission (39 is below 40-44)? If so, I have to disagree with it. That 39 Brute fought just as hard as any of us. Harder, in fact, since the mobs were higher con to him. He should have gotten the temp power too.

If this is a mechanic to prevent farming temp powers for low-level hangers on, please change it. It's not fair to decent, normal team PVE play. The 40s should not get a very nice reward while the 39 gets nothing.

I wonder if it tried to award him the 35-39 temp power and he already had it? I would assume that it's based on the character's level, not the level of the Mayhem mission. If he didn't have it then he should have gotten something at least.

Though this does bring up a point. How does this work with Malefactoring? Say you're a level 40 and you want to get the temp powers you missed, can you Malefactor down with someone of the appropriate level and get the temp power for that level range?

Suggestion:
I don't see why they can't make it so that every side mission you accomplish adds to the experience rewarded when the mission is completed, i.e. +5,000 xp bonus upon completion That way you can't "reset" the mission and perpetually reap the rewards (e.g. the jewelry store heist which was nerfed).

I've run a few of the mission, and they're fun the first time around, but I can see that after a few I would have no desire to "smash stuff up" and complete sidequests if they give nothing but more time. Offering extra mission xp at completion for the sidequests seems so logical to me.

I did my 2nd mayhem missions on test, this one with my 40 rad/kin corr. Everything was fun except for the hero that showed up.

Got HollowMan the illusion/FF troller. This guy is really bad for someone with no mez protection and I think he can use 1 attack that will hold/immobilize/disorient all 3 at once. He summons phantom army, phamtasm and spectral terror while blasting me with 200+ dmg repulsion bomb (had the same graphic as force bolt however). I don't know if it's containment but I got killed twice during this fight, both times I ended going to full to 0 in less than 10 with little chance to heal myself due to all the knockback and status effect he and his pets were able to inflict. As a note, I did have 4 breakfree in my tray (3x30sec and 1x60sec) and I had to use all of them before I finally managed to kill him.

I know that you can't get signature heroes anymore, but I still feel that some combos are too powerfull againts lower hp Ats with no status protection and since we have to complete mayhem missions to get our contacts now, maybe some of those heroes showing up should get a review.

Can't run mayhem mission in grandville - I tried searching this thread, no one else reported this.

My screen and UI completely freezes after perhaps 30 seconds to a minute in, and a windows-based window pops up telling me there was a severe error, and to type in the details (not the standard windows error report, but a cov one!). After sending the report, the program exits back to windows.

The second time I wasn't even blowing anything up, I was just standing and looking while my teammates killed off a mob. They continued the mission without me.

Just for reference, I'm still running win98, although the machine is midranged (athlon 2400, nvidia 5600, 1g ram). I can play both coh and cov just fine, and have been for about 1.5 years.

I have not tried other missions yet in grandville, so don't know if it's just the mayhem. May try that tomorrow night.

Anyone else??

My friend and I did the Founder's Falls mayhem mission for the second time in 2 days. At the end of the mission neither one of us got a new temp power, nor any notification of a new temp power in the dialogue box or flashed on the screen. Our conclusion was that because we both already had Life Insurance, that would have been the power, except because we already had it we got nothing.

This is very unsatisfying, to spend nearly an hour on a tough mission and not get the special prize. At the very least, if the player already possesses the reward temp power, he should get a notification of receiving it again and it should refresh (the timer should reset to max).

Post 05/16 Patch:

Ran the KR Mayhem last night...only 3 of us...we pwned that map...the whole thing <the players I was with are great> We ran the 2 side missions without a hitch. All the destruction alloted excellent bonuses and it seems that the destruction of items is fixed but it has become clearer that it is based on a numeric system. Meaning it takes like 10 parking meters or 3 cars etc. to get the bonus. Either way, destuction of items worked well. We also got time bonuses for resisting arrest within the door missions. Not many but still 1 minute more does add up. In the end, we got the badge, we did the missions, robbed the map, and completed the mission with 15 minutes to spare. Awesome work. Can't wait to run more!

I believe you only get the temp power once per mission zone. (I thought I read that somewhere.) This is to stop the temp power farming of mayhem missions.

They're good XP, and they're a lot of fun, and some of the side missions give persistent temp powers. That's reason enough for me. Heck, if I didn't care at all about badges, it might be enough for me to do nothing else.

umm I got something funny when I compleated the mayhem mish I got the temp power the endurance one.. but I also got salvage.. it is the bypass.. it says it can be used in place of one of the sientests for the nuke.. Have yet to test this but DAM.. wonder if I can get more and just get the nuke..

Well if you are farming them for the temp power, then there isn't a reason to do more than 1 per zone. If you are doing them for xp, fun, and fulfilling your broker's requirement, then there is.

(yes, I know you can pass it up or fail it and still get a contact.)

On approximately half of the maps, there's a side mission to break into a villain hideout and steal their stuff. The "glowie" in that mission 100% reliably gives another randomly-selected temporary power, no matter how many missions you've done on this map. I haven't even been farming them hard and I think I've got something like 8 of them (not counting another 10 or so from story arcs and the ones you were talking about and the PvP zone patrol missions) just from the process of getting my level 5 to 30 contacts. If I'd been farming them hard, I could probably have scored another 6 or so.

But if they're not your kind of fun, and you don't want to mess with the side missions, then you can almost certainly bypass every side mission and nearly every ambush (especially once you get a travel power), fly or superjump straight to the bank, and finish the bank job in less time than the old bank jobs used to take because there are only about half as many spawns and the NPCs now get out of the way. So I'm not seeing any downside to this, and for those of us who like tearing up Paragon City, and who like the side missions, I'm seeing this as a pure win.

I personally love doing the side missions but the amount of ambush's you get in the "Smash & Grab really put a dent in my time. I've actually failed 2 Mayhem Missions so far because of the excessive ambush's.

The funny thing for me regarding this is that I've done I think 4-5 mayhem missions, and my roommate's done around 6ish. I've never gotten the break into villain hideout side mission once. My roommate has gotten it virtually every time. Guess I'm just unlucky

That's really cool.. granted, I have only done 2 Mayhem Missions and I haven't seen that side mission, but I was speaking of the temp power given at the end of the mission as a mission complete bonus.

I read that THAT temp power is only once per zone.

It only happens when you run into multiple red searchlights, from my experiences. I ran into one and the ambush that came to stop me was all of... 2 guys. I decided to test whether or not the number of ambushes relied on each individual light and... wow. The ambush that greeted me on my way out of the mission was composed of 18 PPD and 4 Longbow. It was fun trying to break my way through that mob.

I truly love this aspect of the mini-mission as it gives me reason to be very cautious. I'd been dying to get a stealth-like mission and BAM! They delivered as they said they would. Good stuff.

I just got one to do in Founders' Falls...went into the Bank, got waylaid by Longbow then went to jail.

After busting out of the jail, I found myself in the middle of bluespace (sky?) with the city map above me. I fell (?) and went to 1 hit point. I hit my self-heal and hopped around some more with no success.

Unable to reenter game map.

Bugged it.

I thought smash and grabs usually gave 11 minutes total: 5 for the safes in front and 6 for the vault loot.

Add me to the growing list of people wanting Outcasts by the truckload in Steel Canyon's mission. I'd also really like to see Rikti (esp. monkeys) in Founder's and Peregrine, and a Croatoa mission with lots of red caps (note the space).

If I defeat a signature hero that gives a badge, I'd like the badge for his defeat, please.

I'd like to request that the devs look over the Steel Canyon mayhem mission, since the exploration badge is apparently missing.

I'd also like to request the addition of tally bars to all of the mayhem mission badges. There's confusion over whether all heroes on these missions count toward the "signature heroes" badge, or just the actual signature heroes. Since I've not even heard of people having this badge, there's every question as to whether it's bugged.

Oh what the hell! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Part of the fun of Mayhem missions is knowing that your gonna face one of the major heroes at the end of it. And now that's been taken away? We're attacking Paragon City! If some villain attacked and destroyed a part of Gotham would you tell me that Batman would shuffle it off for one of Robin's fans to do?

If 3 city blocks of Metropolis were destroyed are you telling me Superman would give the Cadmius project (SP) a call and tell them to send some test tube project after them?

I really hope that you reconsider this. What's next. Taking the signature heroes out of the story arcs in CoV and replacing them with no name heroes?

Amazing. You can still do a mayhem mission and on the easiest level get from 5 to 12 glue arrows and 4 or 6 acc debuffs from the Paragon Ghosts, but dont expect to see Back Alley Brawler, or Valkyrie if you trash Steel Canyon.
