brutes, stalkers, etc have a higher modifier on their melee attacks than their ranged attacks

for example a stalker using the same snipe as a dark corrupter (moonbeam) will do far less damage, because stalkers are meant to be weaker with ranged attacks and stronger with melee

there's more detail than that, but im not a dev or a supernerd

tanks and scrappers complained about their ranged epic powers being weak back when they were first introduced, so they got this fix too. im surprised it wasn't automatically given to the villains too, since the devs went through this already

They're not considered melee attacks, they're 0.5 of melee scale. Meaning a *ranged* power for a non-ranged class that's classified as "medium" damage would actually do 0.5x (one half) the damage a medium damage *melee* attack does.

That's why the ranged attacks seem so weak.

Now they'll use the melee multiplier (1.0), so a medium ranged attack for a non ranged class will do 1.0x the damage of a melee medium damage attack.

In essence, damage from ranged patron power pool has so far been halved. This will no longer be the case.

There are two damage multipliers that determine "base stats" one for ranged attacks and one for melee. For reference:

Melee/Ranged
Scrapper: 1.125/0.5
Tanker: 0.8/0.5
Stalker: 0.9/0.6
Brute: 0.75/0.5

All APP attacks for Scrapper/Tankers use the melee modifier, even when it's a ranged attack (Scrappers use 1.125 instead of 0.5 for instance). The Brute/Stalker APPs are currently running of the ranged multiplier (0.5/0.6 respectfully). They're changing them to run off the melee multiplier (0.75/0.9 respectfully). In otherwords:

The base damage of all ranged Brute/Stalker APP attacks are going to get a 50% boost!

Luck does indeed boost your base defense. Positional defense (melee/ranged/AoE) could also protect against an attack that only did toxic damage. For example, Focused Senses from SR would protect from a ranged attack that did only toxic damage. Anyway, the point is unless there is a smash, lethal, or energy damage component to an attack, Scorpion Shield won't give you defense to it.

I won't be on test tonight, but I still want to help test this sometime. Look for me on live as @Nathan or on test as Mr. Wu3 (global chat there is unreliable)

Not quite. So far they've been 2/3rds as powerful as they're going to be. They're getting a 50% damage boost, not 100%.

If I remember correctly, the snipes suppress hide and don't critical.

That's just....lame.




The rest of the changes - especially the elec armor/melee ones - are just awesome, though.

castle said that stalker snipes WITH crit (from hide) will do .9 of blaster snipes

and stalkers only get BU, while blasters can get BU and aim, so stalkers snipes could only out-damage a blaster's if the stalker used BU and was hidden, and the blaster used neither aim or buildup

if they changed that...that's retarded

can anyone confirm/deny this?

I'm getting confused by all these melee AT ranged attacks that need to be given the melee modifier. Obviously the ranged damage modifier isn't high enough for them, so what's the problem with increasing that?

a few have 1 or 2 ranged attacks in their primary

though they could just weaken those accordingly, if they upped the range modifier...

This is very good news to hear, especially along balance lines. This leads me to believe that the PPP's will perhaps be more powerful than their hero counterparts, an affirmation that I doubted until now. Still I will continue testing this to reassure myself. Thanks Castle.

Ranged attacks in the primary (Hurl, Shockwave, etc) already run off the melee multiplier, despite being ranged attacks. With this change, no melee AT will have an attack that runs off the ranged multiplier, no matter how much range the attack has

Spines needs to have its ranged attacks run off the ranged scale. Impale is simply overpowered.
