Castle PM reply on Energy Aura armor #s
Well if you multiply those numbers out you get
Smash / Lethal = 0.1275
Fire / Cold / Energy = 0.15
Negative = 0.105
If you convert those decimals to percentages you get 12.75%, 15% and 10.5%.
How those values would be spread over the powers that EA has that provide Def I am not sure.

Here's my other post on dampening field res #s, reprinted to consolidate EA info in one thread:
Me: lvl 31 brute
Test Subject: Lvl 31 Crab Spider Longfang (Lt)
condition: no dampening field power
damage: 89.4 lethal with its claws -- call this "base damage"
condition: unslotted dampening field power, no enhancements
damage: 82.7 lethal with its claws
reduction: approx. 7.5% from base damage
condition: dampening field power, 3 slotted with even lvl SOs (30+)
damage: 78.94 lethal with its claws
reduction: approx. 11.7% from base damage
condition: dampening field power, 3 slotted with +1l SOs (30++)
damage: 78.91 lethal with its claws
reduction: approx. 11.7338% from base damage
So who can do the math and tell me what 3 +3 SOs woudl do?
Anyway, the #s seem higher than what the planners are reporting. Didn't see this anywhere else so I did it on test.
If 3 +3 SO Tough gives 17.7%, then dampening looks like it would give approx. 11.7% more for nearly 29.5% right?

those are really weird too.
Energy Cloak pre-buff was about 3%. just subtracting that out puts kinetic shield at less than 10% defense. that can't be right, can it?
Did you guys specify Brute numbers? maybe he gave the stalker numbers?

Those numbers do sound awefully low for a brute set.
You are talking Resistance not Defense.
If the OP asked Castle about Defense then he would have been talking about the +Def powers not the +Res powers.
Res and Def both use Schedule B Enh which give 20% bonus for an SO and about 56% for 3 SOs. 3 Level+3 SOs won't give any significant extra bonus (about 0.45% each by my calculation).
Stupid
I sort of presumed that these were not counting the +Def vs All from Energy Cloak, they seem too low otherwise, and if it was just a fast look up then I doubt Castle did any adding up of numbers.

hmm. good point. even then, the numbers he seems to quote are what we had assumed the numbers were before Brute EA got that boost. i've been loathe to do it but i'm gonna try to set up my EA brute tonight for an overnight test of Kinetic shield.

I specified Brute and the Def #s in my PM. I told him there had been a lot of questions on the Brute board about the EA #s.
If 3 SO's gives 56% more, then the S/L #s look consistent with the hero planner I have - it comes out to be 12.75% * 1.56 = 19.89% . . . which is what my planner says. You need to add 3slotted Energy Cloak in to get ~ 25% S/L. Still that's kind of low-sounding -- I thought the set was supposed to have been buffed to get closer to 35%? And then still to come is the global def buff in I7.

Kinetic and Power Shield were judged to be 12.5% before the boost... /shrug
Sounds like either you asked the question awkwardly, he answered poorly or incorrectly, or somewhere along the line we were mistakenly told EA was boosted when it was not.
Hopefully it's not that last one. heh

And when that To Hit calc change comes in a 25% Def will cut every mobs chance to hit you in half. Which seems pretty good to me.

I think the 12.5% numbers were a guess based on a comparison with /SR.
Actually, those numbers would explain some of my experiences in game. For instance, the CoT Spectral Demons rip me to shreds; they are one of the few mobs in game that I treat with kid gloves. A 10.5% base defense against negative energy would go a ways toward explaining that. By contrast, I can wade through Longbow and Scrapyarders with little worry. My guess is that is the 15% fire resistance kicking in.

I think those are Stalker numbers. Remember you're talking to the Stalker rep. The multipliers are probably different for brutes.

Now I'm more confused than before!
I thought Scrapper, Stalker and Brute numbers were all the same and Tank numbers were higher.

Maybe, but my PM specifically asked about Brutes -- even the Subject line said Brute . . . so if he gave Stalker #s, it was a mistaken reponse to the question.

Agreed... see if maybe he'll clarify it better in an actual thread (this one would be a fine place)
Figure it's worth a shot as the current "answer" has us more confused than before

I already did. Asked him to respond here.

Those values are base for the specific toggles. I did not add in the stealth powers def bonus.

So this is the base for Brutes? Are Stalkers lower than this?

Looks like 1.7 *0.075 for S/L, 2 * 0.075 for E/F/C and 1.4 * 0.075 for N.
Very quick lookup, though

I would presume that the numbers are lower for Stalkers, but we need to consider that Stalkers also have the Defensive bonus from Hide.
Looking at the data, I would assume that the first number is the bonus granted by the power, and the second (0.075) is the multiplier for the Brute AT... but that is just a guess from a programmer's perspective.

True but EA Brutes can take Energy Cloak which fully-slotted (3 SO's) I think gives around 4.68% def (could be wrong - base value of 3% ? x 1.56 for 3 SO's). I think that's what he (Castle) was referring to when saying he didn't factor in the stealth powers, as Energy Cloak is a stealth power.

also, i've got cov running right now. i'm in a mission with an even con luddite smasher shooting from an apparently endless supply of crosbow bolts. it's pure lethal damage and fully subject to Kinetic shield. it's gonna run all night. i figure the number out at work tomorrow.

I PM'd Castle about what the current EA armor defense numbers were. Here is his reply. I actually can't quite figure out what it means, but hopefully one of you can.
