What NOT to do in CoX

Sheesh...A bunch of Liberal idiots pretending to be conservative idiots. Anyway, you're right, that has zero to do with this topic.

This topic is about things similar to Jeff Foxworthy's "you might be a redneck if..." for COX.

You might be a Noob...

If You pull densely packed orange-red cons with a fireball.
If your idea of a good team is 7 guys 5 levels higher than you.
If you haven't done a single one of your missions since your character was created, and you're level 40.
If you put all your early enhancement slots in Brawl and Rest.

...If you're using normal flight, and someone using group flight outruns you to...well, anywhere.

...if you jump around like a moron, spamming something over and over about 100 times, thinking this is "funny"

You might be a noob if....
You think that the % values in the enhancement screen for recharge enhancers and endurance reduction enhancers are how much it's reduced, rather than 1/that number.

you say, "ru healr?" Especially if you say it to anyone in my sg. They kinda don't like that.

Now for a round of "Don't do that!"
When it's obvious your actions are detrimental to the team, such as grabbing aggro too early. Stop. Often the team will give you subtle clues such as, "FRICKIN STOP GRABBING MORE AGGRO BEFORE WE'RE FINISHED WITH THE FIRST SPAWN, GENERICHERO2922, OR SO HELP ME GOD I'LL KICK YOU FROM THE TEAM!"

Sorry, just trying to say that I've met plenty of people playing CoX who were that dumb. Guess you're right though, those type of people probably don't even read the forums.

Just to add one....
.........you might be a noob when someone tells you they have a timed mish in the zone you're in (say Perez Park), yet you assign a mish that is somewhere far away (say Dark Astoria or Striga Island).

I even told the person that they couldn't enter those areas and yet they continued to ask what kind of mobs were there, what lvl the mobs were, etc. Wasn't too hard to quit and set them on my lengthy ignore list.

You didn't know that the isolator badge is given in OUTBREAK.

Well, I've been playing for a year and I didn't know that. Guess I'm still a noob.

I have to go along with the "don't invite me to a team while I'm in a mission" snag.

I received three - three - that's right, THREE tells asking if I wanted to team while fighting the same Elite Boss with my 15 Brute this morning.

Distracting me while I'm fighting an EB = Not Good.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

Do NOT assume everyone likes Speed Boost.

I think this is a throwback to EQ and Spirit of the Wolf. Everyone thought it was the coolest buff in the game and assumed everyone wanted it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I’ve never played EQ. As an avid player of Kinetics, I can say that I tend to assume people want it.

I’ve played every AT up to level twenty or so and my third-highest level character is currently a Scrapper at the moment. All of them, melee or not, benefited hugely from SB. I didn’t have any troubles navigating things or keeping close to the baddie I was working on, but then, maybe I’m just used to being fast.

I hit everyone with Speed Boost until or unless they tell me otherwise. All too often I’ve asked who wants it and who doesn’t, only to receive no response or get private tells a few seconds later telling me what a jerk I am for skipping them in my buff cycle. I’d rather deal with the alternative of having people just ask me to stop.

And to add to the actual topic at hand, don’t start screaming at the top of your lungs about how evil a higher level character is if you get hit with an ambush he wasn’t aware of. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever hung around a mission door long enough to even meet up with my ambushes. I didn’t even know they existed until I started dropping by the forums.

If you're the Mentor and die in battle, don't go to the hospital until your sidekick dies or is safely out of aggro.

I've had several sidekicks bite the dust when forgetting that little tip. There's nothing worse than just barely holding on against a bunch of enemies and suddenly have the "My Mentor is too far away" message appear over my head.

. .. you might be a force field defender.

My personal suggestion:

When people are scattered all over hell's half-acre, e.g. in the Atta mission, and you are teleporting them back so you can renew their force fields [plus, they're scattered. . . ], PORT THE SIDEKICK FIRST.

Oops.

Yeah... love making that blunder.

Hero side I get all embarrassed. I like scramble to either try and interrupt the TP, and by then it's usually too late or start screaming RUN RUN while I try to pull the sk as fast as I can lol.

Villain side it's like hey, your malefactor should have declined. If he doesn't care enough about to stop himself from being TP'ed away why should I care about you enough to make sure I grab you first? ::ducks:: (Actually I just use that as a cover when I forget to tp the SK first lol.)

ok...well i know when I first started playing (one month ago) that I did end up running on a lot of higher lvl missions because i had somehow found myself in the clutches of the Dark Junkies....

Master of Sin and Atropa-Belladonna lackey'd my [censored] for nearly two whole days and i outleveled pretty much all my missions that i had available...Still went back and did them tho just because of the pure principle of it...LEARN IT TARD.... but i dont think i ever would EVER expect someone else (the boss) to make sure that MY toon is safe while travelling...my idiot noob self would go wander off a little too far in St. Martial and see the red baloon and then the crack of the toon's backside dead on the ground...because i was really only a lvl 12...ah...never strayed away from any boss after that....lol

hehe It's all in the style of how you do it!!!

I have "Blinds will be decline" simple fact is most offers i did except were by low lvls wanting a Pl or ppl that really just sucked at teaming. With a tell you get more info on what is going on. I always send a tell when recruiting for a team.

And If you send a tell, If i send a tell back saying "No thanks, but thank you for the offer." This means I am doing something and I do not want a team at that moment. Don't send me another tell cursing and name calling, because I didn't join your team. That is harassment.

Don't beg for inf.
Don't hold long idiotic chat in broadcast or request channels.
Just because you have a 50, don't mean you know everything.
The more respectful you are the better teams you will get and the more ppl who will want to team with you again.
Don't complain about how this game sucks so bad, you are the one playing something you don't like.

Of course all these have been covered and than some. I just had to get on this too.

Have No Fear!!! Blaster Bill is Here!!!
(dangit what am i lying on the floor again!)

Bill's Brigade
Light Bill lvl 50 (regen-tank) Blaster Elec/Elec/Mun (1606 HP!!)

Cool Blue Magic lvl 50 controller Ill/Emp/Ice
Bad Billy lvl 50 defender Dark/Rad/Dark

Well how about other heroes going around clicking glowies in a mish that YOU own. I out of etiquette Never click any glowies in anothers mish. It should be up to the mish owner if he wants the glowies or wants others to have them. And also for the blind invites yes I have no blind invites in my search field for the fact that I am running around doing a few things in game with my own mishs to which I tend to run some of them solo to get them off of my plate and ALOT of the time just because I am in the Hollows or Skyway or Steel does not mean I have time to drop down and do a lowbies mish when I am busy with my own mish and that if you get an invite from some lower lvl it is for either PL purposes or maybe the person is new to the game and does not understand that you are not gonna ride along as a lvl 37 in a lvl 10 mish. I always tend to join a team when a tell is sent or am polite enough to let the person know I am about to log and tell them thank you for the invite. Not all 50s are know-it-all and arrogant. Some of us just enjoy the game for the fun of it

Leetspeek is real real old.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ok, I'm hoping you're not trying to say that because it was around during EQ time that its old. Sheesh, I have clothes hangers and ashtrays older than L33tspeak... I had several years of online gaming behind me even when SOE had Meridian59 and were just testing things before coming out with EQ. Many years before the invention of Mozilla, Mosaic, Netscape, Cello, Opera, and certainly Internet Explorer the latecomer. Before Archie, Veronica and Gopher... Sheesh, where's my cane. All though i dont run into dwarfs they are better killed from afar. But on the others the nova is the same damage no matter the distance and V&Q's are better to attack from close range because they go to melee and i would rather get hit by a Brawl than a Quantium Weapon. And yes I would be very upset if there were healers on the team and they didnt heal me when i did this.

[/ QUOTE ]

Void Stalkers melee does more damage than their range... so running into them to avoid the ranged attack is asking for more damage. Noob.

[ QUOTE ]
The most fun i have had in this game besides herding (I just love to do it not for the exp or the inf its just one of my things and it hurts NO one) has been grabing a newbie and taking them on a wild ride of 12, 16 lvls in one night and teaching them along the way. This dose many things. One it helps them learn the game and although its better the Tutoral is still kinda lacking.

[/ QUOTE ]

??? In what universe does skipping 12-16 levels of EXPERIENCE in one night teach you how to play the game?

Give a man a fish he feeds for a day. Teach a man to fish and he feeds for a lifetime. You're not teaching, you're giving.

[ QUOTE ]
Two it helps show off the game and show how fun it can be

[/ QUOTE ]

You can do that without PL'ing them.

[ QUOTE ]
so if that person is on a trail or a firends account

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds more like speculation from your statement. Do just assume and/or hope that or actually ask them before you powerlevel them?

[ QUOTE ]
maybe they will join up and give us more ppl to play with.

[/ QUOTE ]

Who are going to whine and cry about how hard this game and and who don't know a damned thing about their powers because they got handed 16 levels in one night.

[ QUOTE ]
Three it helps train them for when they train other newbies. Ect..

[/ QUOTE ]

No... it hurts them because they are handed a loaded gun and not told how it works. Instead of them being handed the parts of the gun and thrown to the lions where it's "build the gun, learn how it works or die"... it's "here... here's the gun, point and shoot"...

[ QUOTE ]
All im saying is just because ran into a couple and didnt understand there tac.

[/ QUOTE ]

THEIR tactic might be something you can't understand because it doesn't make sense. If he's having those kinds of issues, like say a Kheldian running up to a void because he thinks it's safer, than maybe the Kheldian needs to explain his 'tac'.

[ QUOTE ]
Dont stop playing with a AT, if i did that i would never play with a blaster, always bonzi in to melee range and attack or use AoEs before group is locked down....

[/ QUOTE ]

No, we don't. And that's where DISCUSSING tactics comes in. You can't just assume.

[ QUOTE ]
You know the more i think of it your right ill never play with a blaster again damn idiot blasters

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL LOL LOL Wow... this from the spelling pl'ing machine. I'm hurt, he thinks I'm an idiot.

DO NOT: PL newbies and think you're doing them a favor. You're not. They're getting spoiled AND you're generating an idiot who doesn't know a damned thing (how the hell can you think handing someone 16 levels in ONE NIGHT is training them?) about his powers or how the game REALLY works.

Yeah and dont blind invite people, send a tell saying why and what the invite is for. You are more likely to get atleast a response.
