What NOT to do in CoX

**Dont pull Monsters to the "safe rock" in Hive.
**Dont pull Monsters into the jello during the HOLD Phase.
**Dont pull Monsters!!!

Notice a pattern here?

**If you have never done "Hammi" before, dont run in and start blasting Hammie. You wont get rezed and you will piss off about 75+ Heroes.
**Dont sit on the rock and milk HOs by just running in on the "single strike" phase before the hold-phase.

Activating MoG without warning? <...> Also, usually the scrapper is scrapping for their life as well as yours when it gets activated, doubtful there is time to send even a quick memo to the group.

/bind ctrl+e "powexec_name Moment of Glory$$g Moment of Glory activated, 3 minutes to power loss!"
/bind alt+e "g 15 seconds to power loss!"

There you go.

As for the second one: I use a countdown alarm with any crash power, set to give me 15 seconds warning. I have yet to be killed by a crash.

A couple of years ago, someone got the idea to create "taxibots" which would offer to tp you where you needed to go for influence. And yes, their costumes usually had the colors/checkers of a taxi. <...> I haven't seen them around at all lately which is a shame.

Taxibots are still seen on Virtue, particularly in the Hollows. We also have a Taxi Otter running around; she has a Hitchhiker's-style Encycolpedia Galactica entry for /info....

If you haven't done a single one of your missions since your character was created, and you're level 40.

Actually this means you might be a Stalker -- they're better off closing newspaper missions than trying to deal with most of the mainline content. Or, as already noted, a support character who spends most of his life in groups.

I had several years of online gaming behind me even when SOE had Meridian59 and were just testing things before coming out with EQ.

SOE didn't have M59; that was 3DO. Remember when they were going to (metaphorically) take over the world?

When someone sends me a tell asking me if I want to team up, when I CLEARLY have myself on the "Looking for team" list, I have the urge to reply: "Gee, do you think THAT might be why I have "Looking for team" turned on?"

I never simply invite people or just say "want to team up?" I always say what we're planning to do. The fact that you are LFT does not mean you want to do a respec, or help me swat an AV, etc.

Do NOT and I repeat do NOT, call yourself a puller...run out in the open, fire off your blast AND STAND THERE. Cut a damn corner, get out of line of sight. Especially if your fighting ranged enemies. It baffles me how some people dont understand this logic.

Yeah. Love when I pull, go to back up and run around the corner and am able to backpedal 2" before slamming into the team. "Uh guys... MOVE!" followed by ::trampled::

Or you might be a defender/controller that never gets to do their own missions because they're always on teams

[/ QUOTE ]
This certainly does not have to happen. I have a level 50 Emp. Often teams did neglect to his missions and he out leveled them. I would of course ask the team if we can do my missions. Usually, the team would not respond.. as if they didn't catch that I put something in chat.

I would ask a few times, and if I didn't get a response.. I would just say.. "Ok, thanks for the team. I gotta go build a team to get some of my missions done now. Have fun all!"

Suddenly, the team chat is filled with "Wait! we can do your missions!", "I'll help you with your missions!" and stuff like that.

Freakin magic.

I agree. I ignore anyone who uses "l33t" speak. Not so much that I think it's stupid (but i do think it is stupid) But because it makes me have to slow down to figure out what it means.

Any type of chats or tells that require me to "translate" only slow me down. Well actually, they don't slow me down as I ignore them. I wont translate. And if anyone wants to know why I seem to be ignoring them on team.. say something like "Are you ignoring me?" Rather then "R U ignrng m3?" and I will respond.

lol, Every time I see someone call out "I'll pull!" and then do what you just described, I call out "n00b pull!!"

I don't understand how they think a pull is when you launch an attack on a foe. It makes me wonder, when they are in a full scale battle, do they think they are pulling the whole time of the battle?

lol, I still need an emoticon for rolled eyes!

Meredian 59 gave a new meaning to watching grass grow. Never have I spent so much time wacking rats, to gain 1 % in skill, to then die by a PKer and lose 5% in that skill. Plus, blue mushrooms make lightning?

I remember Mountains of Yserbius, off the Sierra network. Truly a dungeon crawl. THAT is old school (unless you are goign back to pong, which I had and also played ).

Actually, if you've never done a Hami raid before, don't do anything but run up for your one shot. Watch the Broadcast and Request channels. Learn what's going on. Try to identify the team leads for your specialty and approach them later about helping out in a future raid.

Never doing anything but run up for your one shot makes you deadweight, but trying to contribute without knowing what you're doing or not in concert with the raid teams makes you a hindrance. It will actually take longer to kill Hami with your "help" than without, and Hami raids are already boring enough.

DO NOT...
...refuse to use a rez just so you can soak up 'no-risk' XP's. I hate debt- who doesn't? But if you just bought the farm, chances are some or all of us are pretty close to dyin' too and we NEED you!
(some guy actually said this was the ultimate technique for xps- he said his SG had been tporting a dead body around for a month. Please- say it ain't so...)

[/ QUOTE ]

Now that sounds like an Urban Myth if I ever heard one. You can only TP someone to the same zone you are in. That being said, you could not TP the corpse into a mission or another zone. Not only that, but once outside, you would have to keep the corpse somehat close by. So in conlclusion, even though that was an absolutely hillarious idea, it would be too impractical and limited to be true.

[/ QUOTE ]

Prior to I4 or I5 it was possible to enter and exit missions while dead. If I remember right it was even possible to use the train while dead. Even though it was once possible does not mean that it happened.

My contribution:

Just because someone doesn't have a level 50 character doesn't neccessarily mean that they know less about the game than you do. (I have been playing since the second round of pre-order beta invites and have yet to make it to level 50... I have pointed out some helpful information to people in my SG who have multiple level 50 characters)

To the person that did this to me in CoV today, in the event he/she recognizes him/herself: You're a bonehead.

If someone has "please send tell first" in the team search comment field, and has lft turned OFF, then a one word tell "team" (without even a question mark) followed IMMEDIATELY by a blind invite, is just plain stupid.

And yes, a one word tell sent sixteen nanoseconds before the invite is still a blind invite.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

At lest you GOT a word. I had one dip [censored] who just sent emtpy tells then an invite. When I replied asking how much crack he smoked and how that counted as a tell (after declining) he'd send ANOTHER! Oy vey some people.

Do not bail out in a timed mission! If you don't have the time to play one (and they are usually pretty short) then say so. Don't join a team and then quit when there is 10 minutes left on the mission.

If someone lets you borrow the star to invite someone, don't keep it till you log. It's rude, and you will probably NEVER get the star ever again from the same person.

Posted

Don't ask if Player X can join if you don't know Player X. When you ask your teammates if someone can join, we generally assume it is something that you have played with before and liked. If they are someone that just asked you if they could join and don't know them, mention that to the team. A new bad player can destroy the flow of a good one and then with us thinking you knew and wanted this person to join, our perception of you will change for the worse.

Don't go AFK in the middle of a Siege fight.

Don't send a tell asking if you did something wrong to get kicked.

Don't get your only toon PL'ed from 1-50 and then pretend you have ANY clue about anything. Going AFK in a Siege fight pretty much confirms why people say PL'ed people know jack.

No no. Teach them with tough love. Teams that are scattered all over hell and creation don't GET reshielded. If you make a decision to run off on your own away from the main group, guess what? You're on your own.

Oh, f'gawd's sake, they were level FIFTEEN and shiny-new. They had enough trouble figuring out where they were, what they were doing, and why they had Spontaneous Cases of Death [tm] all over the place, without me torturing them for a lesson they weren't ready for.

Here's something for the experienced people: When you're with a severe newb, start with the basics. Show them ONE tactic, explain it, and use it. Don't go for some sort of NFL "And then you fade back and I grab the aggro, the Blaster comes straight up the middle and BU/Aim/Fb/Fb, six points" maneuver when they don't even know what their attacks do yet.

We were all level ten for the first time, once.
