Here's another: If someone is spawning TOT mobs and training the ones he doesn't need to the hospital drones, either get out of the way or fight em...DON'T whine to the TOT-er about it. With the "one ghost per 50 door spawns" rate, there are a LOT of people dumping mobs on drones to speed things up. They've probably been at it for like 6 hours straight, and may decide that you want BIGGER spawns trained directly on YOU, instead of the drones.

TOT-ing for Ghosts does strange things to peoples' brains. Don't push it.

[/ QUOTE ]

If a 50 is trailing 50-53 mobs through the low end of PI then that person is being a jerk--especially if they don't have a taunt (or similar) to hold the aggro. Ghost hunting is no excuse for griefing people 8 levels lower than you.

I was minding my own business, ToTing on my 43 scrapper when I got zapped by a 50-something witch. Some numnutz was trailing monsters and was not able to hold the aggro. Maybe he was "ghost hunting" and maybe he was just purposefully griefing; it looked the same to me either way.

If someone threatened to train mobs on another player, that is definitely griefing and should be reported.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am, of course, referring to people around the same level. The specific situation was, I was training mobs from the doors directly in front of the Sharkhead hospital to the four drones in front of the hospital.

I was at the LOW end of Sharkhead level range (22) and the whiner was 21. I was set on the lowest difficulty setting, so even if they took a potshot or two at him on their way to the drones, there's no reason he couldnt get out of their way in the short stretch between the hospital and the doors.

And No, I didn't threaten to deliberately lead any mobs to him, nor did I do so without threatening, nor was I deliberately training to hit him in the first place. And I had, as I said, been doing the same thing for HOURS...All I wanted by that point was to get the gratting ghosts and move on, so I was repeating the following: Click door. Fly up above roof (only the ghosts can fly, so if there was a ghost it would follow me up there) If there was a ghost, I'd root it there and fly to the drones to dump the rest of the mobs....if there was no ghost, I'd just fly to the drones.

Did he offer to team up with me for TOT? No.
Did he just go wherever he wanted and TOT for himself? No.
All he did was insult me and log off.

DO NOT...
...call my character by some hybrid/bizarro name like 'blaptroller' or 'warfender', or if you do don't get prissy when I call you a 'stupinhead' or 'idioramus'. I've used those terms (the first ones) in a tactical discussion before but not for my actual character. I'm a blaster. Shorter, easier to type. And true. So when I say stop it... stop.

DO NOT...
...[censored] about Brutes going Leeroy until you've played one at least until level 10. Seriously. Solo'ed 12 yellow hellions, in one big group in the street, at level 6 (6!) in about 45 seconds. Go ahead... try. (more on brutes below)

DO NOT...
...assume any of the following regardless of your past experience:
-SCRAPPERS are undisciplined yahoos who live to start fights only they can survive... There's a basis for that (mostly caffeinated regen'ners who don't have to wait at all) but most are quite good team players. See? I threw a generalisation in there quite easily and it doesn't apply to most players. I think. Lemme consider it while I run for more java.
-STALKERS are asocial teenagers whose sole source of satisfaction is ganking hardworking, virtuous players and then cackling maniacally. Okay, maybe some are.
-DEFENDERS (or corruptors) can heal, or even NEED to heal. I think by now most people have caught on that prevention is efficient and LIKE non-empaths. Or is it just me?
-BRUTES are nothing more than mindless... okay I admit this one is getting close to the mark. Thing is, rage is insane. INSANE. The damage output is so ridiculous, it's like when vets talk about guys going power-crazy with big guns (shooting machineguns until they run out of ammo or, more likely, die). This class not only ENCOURAGES Leeroy syndrome- it makes it FUN! So my proposal: go with it. Assume that, 30 seconds into the mission, the brute will go nuts and stop looking at what he's attacking, where he is or what his bodily needs are- so help him along! Buff him. Give him your c.a.b's. If he jump in front of Infernal screaming "Ah-HA!" just stand back, light up and watch him die. Or help, knowing you may faceplant with him. But enjoy the ride. Be pragmatic. Just watch him carefully and you'l do fine.
TANKS are useless lumps, 'specially ice tanks. Ahem. Not if the right person is behind the keyboard. They can save your whiny little [censored] like no other AT can, remember that.
MASTERMINDS are really the new and improved Tanks, and they really like to just grab and hold aggro so you can live your villainous fantasy of killing everything and looking sexy doing it. Really, it's all they want to do. Make YOU look good. No no, really.
PEACEBRINGERS/WARSHADES are all snotty kids on dad's machine or rich idiots who bought an account (or worse- the rich idiot's snotty kid!). When exactly did this happen? I've seen squids make pulls they couldnt handle, with voids and titans and whatnot- is there ANYONE on this thread who hasn't? Really? Ok, get off the forums and make your first character. Everyone else: you KNOW you've run headlong into crap you couldn't survive, so why blast these AT's? They seem really hard to play, so cut 'em some slack. The alternative: be considered an idiot-noob when you hit 50 and make one.
DOMINATORS are supposed to be like controllers, but they ain't as good! Granted, they share most of the same primaries but so what? Sure, I prefer the person next to me have /kinetics than /(assault stuff) for MY enjoyment, but for theirs they can play whatever they bloody well want. The dominate abilty is amazing so let them play- you wanted wartrollers(ahem), here they are; just as useful to a team as a controller but they don't buff.
CORRUPTORS have anything to do with defenders. They don't play at all like defenders unless you really want them to, in which case they're okay. BUT. One hint: I'm not playing a bleedin' defender, am I? Am I? Noooooooo- what am I playing? That's right. A corruptor. I corrupt, mainly by KILLING stuff. My primary is damage. Which brings me to:

DO NOT...
...give any importance to an AT's secondary powerset, or assume the player has any powers from it except for the first one. This is related to Corruptors being asked if they can heal, but also applies to MM's (whose minor healing skills are for the MINIONS) and controllers. There is one upside to people who assume too much from secondary sets: watching their first stalker get his face handed to him before they realise that, regen or no, he has the hitpoints of a controller.

DO NOT...
...snub an AT or build because of I5, bad press, minmaxing or whatnot. Tanks are useless? Really? Get the 'troller who said that in the arena with one, just for giggles. I want to watch. Ice/Axe tank? I'll bring the popcorn. <KA_CHUNK!>

The game evolves... yada yada... things change. Tanks got hit hard and they no longer have the staying power- doesn't make them useless by a longshot of course. I've seen useless tanks, and MM's etc... Y'know what made 'em useless? That's right- the person behind the keyboard, not the stats under the hood. A friend of mine used to make builds based on what her SG mates would recommend, then wonder why they didn't work. T'isn't the weapon, tis' the warrior. However...

DO NOT...
...make a 'concept character' whose concept is effectively useless (or almost) in the game, and then expect everyone to put up with it cheerfully. The "idea" might be cool, in which case I encourage you to go pick up Hero System rules and play the toon pen'n'paper. Great game, makes ANY idea you want. But don't get annoyed because someone would rather have a wingman with high DPS instead of a mastermind with no pets but a GREAT backstory. I'm sure the 'idea' is brilliant- have fun. But MY idea of fun is closer to skirting the ragged edge of danger, not pussyfooting around +0 or+1 mobs because someone wanted a laser rifle but no bots. Go play SWG. Or pen and paper. Or solo. Whatever.

DO NOT...
...bring up politics unless you're with RW friends or old-time SG mates. It can lead to bad feelings REAL fast.

**slight political content ahead**
Look, I'm Canadian. That means that, as far as I can tell, 51% of Americans are naive, deluded or scary as hell. BUT. I've traveled a lot. When I worked in Dallas last year I really liked everyone I met, from the folks I worked with to the folks at the hotel, the folks at the mall etc.. I don't want to get into public arguments with anyone- PM me and we'll go at it like rabid mynxes if you want, or try and start a politics thread. Heh, I dare you.
**okay, done**

DO NOT...
...mention religion either. Really, it's worse than politics. What makes it even more complicated is that a lot of characters take their name from biblical references, mostly angels and demons, or music bands (who often seem to pop holy books open and just use whatever looks 'cool') and they often DON'T EVEN KNOW IT. So. Don't ask. That's all. Being asked if I'm female is bad form, but someone schpieiling about the origin of 'Lilith' or 'Ezra' isn't bad form- it's freaky Ned-Flanderism(or pedantic at best). Don't try and change my wicked ways; I LIKE my wicked ways. All the good stuff in life is either immoral, illegal or fattening. Deal with it, or just come to Canada.

DO NOT...
...blame the devs for everything, or even anything in particular, until you sit in on a production meeting for this kind of thing. The quantity of factors that can go into an informed decision is staggering and the simple fact is that often, we can't make informed decisions. They're the ones with the datamined info, so they can know just how effective this or that power is, or if defiance really does suck. THEY KNOW. We don't. Not much room for intelligent debate, but at least your opinions count. Not happy with that arrangement? Go flame the Warcraft devs and see how long your access to their forums lasts.

DO NOT...
...whine about how an event is lame. Constructive criticism is great- but don't just rag on the valentine's day event because you want to solo. Wanting to solo valentine's day seems completely, utterly missing the point unless you're the kid I was talking about with the stalkers earlier- in which case, whack on brutha(or sista)!

I think the devs have fun with events- it's the time they can get wacky and try out stuff- any stuff, and that's okay. At the same time, if they spend too much time on an event someone is gonna [censored]; they're wasting valuable dev time, where's my trenchcoat blah blah (go play matrix online! sheesh!). They can't really win so I suggest people look at events as a sort of very cool test, not only of IF stuff works and HOW stuff works, but the actual impact it has on the playerbase- who's using it, how often, what for etc..

DO NOT...
...tell me about your WoW character. At all. That fact that's its the origin of your name/surname/SG name is, er, a fact. Not cool, cute or neat. Or even interesting. If anything it shows a certain lack of imagination- it's not even like playing an evil version of a hero you had, you're just rehashing old shite.
Anyhow.
I don't want to know what raids you were on- you're worse than listening to granmda ramble-at least her stories are about things she had DONE, not sat on her [censored] until it worked.

And if somehow you MUST- some bizarre circumstance involving a stuck elevator and partial paralysis, I mean MUST tell me about your toon... please, for the love of bob: not the equipment. The only thing more dreadful than a spazzed gamer droning on about how he owned this or that dragon is that gamer telling you about the stuff his character owns. More so when you don't play the game- then it's just verbal diarrhea pure and simple.

DO NOT...
...critique my costume unless you know me, or I ask. You can give your OPINION and that's fine. But it takes a special kind of [censored] to 'inform' me of whats 'missing' on my costume (often called an Art Director). More purple? Needs more purple? Really... tell you what... go stand downrange on a paintball field, I'll give you purple.

DO NOT...
...try and have 'demonstrations' in-game, in the hopes of rolling back I5(keep dreaming), or changing a powerset or whatever idiotic 'cause' you think you have. Heh. A 'cause'. In-credible. Just open the drapes and look outside. Aaaaw. It's too bad the world is absolutely friggin' perfect, 'cuz your revolutionary talents could have been SO useful in a 'real' situation... but having no better cause to vie for than how much prestige you get from missions is okay, 'cuz you're really making things happen. Long live Che!

DO NOT...
...think just because a few people liked a long-winded rant that, somehow, you should post another.

Just because an item once sold for 10,000,000 inf in the auction house, that doesn't mean that it's likely to ever do so again, particularly if it's a common item, like a General inv-origin recipie, which can be purchased at any invention table for a stock price.

True example: Level 20 Endurance modification. Invention table price: About 13,000. Putting them on the auction block for MORE than that is basically just a waste of your posting price. The likelyhood of running across a ninny who is willing to shell out 500,000 for one isn't worth the time it would take.

This started out well but quickly became a list of pet peeves instead of useful behavioral suggestions, some of which don't make a lot of sense.

[ QUOTE ]
Say your piece once, twice tops; if nobody answers, the answer is NO.

[/ QUOTE ]
If recruiting, announcing a contest, etc., at a time when the server is lightly populated, it makes perfect sense to repeat your message several times as additional players may have logged on that didn't see the earlier messages. It's not necessarily spamming.

[ QUOTE ]
A lot of people are like me and pass right over people that are bitter to blind invites. To me and my friends if the comment says "no blind invites" what it really means is "I don't want to team with anyone". I also noticed something else strange... if you say "no blind invites" you tend to get spammed with team invites a lot, lol. That should tell you something...

[/ QUOTE ]
You're kidding, right? If you refuse to send a tell first, we WANT you to pass us over. Stating up front that we don't welcome blinds does NOT say we don't want to team, it says we find the popup dialog annoying when we are working at Wents, at the workbench, or in a fight. It's common courtesy to see if we are interested before inviting. You're not into following the prevailing view of the proper way to invite people, fine. Don't want to team with you either. Stating your blinds preference doesn't increase the number of spam blinds you receive, it decreases it. Of course, since you don't prohibit blinds, you are hardly in a position to have accurate data.

[ QUOTE ]
Send tells to people on the otherside of the law without turning on your See Hero/Villian chat.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is pretty much a hidden setting, you can hardly fault someone who doesn't know how to change it. The polite response instead of getting peeved would be to inform the person, "Hey did you know your hero/villain chat is turned off," and offer to tell them how to fix it. There is also an intermittent bug that causes this to revert to disabled, so many players who have changed the setting may not know that the bug has changed it back.

[ QUOTE ]
Six slot Brawl or Rest.

[/ QUOTE ]
Getting a bit ridic here. How does it affect YOU if someone else chooses to six slot Brawl or Rest? IT DOESN'T. If they want to waste their hard-earned slots, that's their prerogative. I know, this is supposed to be a list of "what not to do", but the rest of this person's post was obviously a list of personal peeves rather than advice, so I responded accordingly.

[ QUOTE ]
Send tells to four different people all on the same team asking for invites.

[/ QUOTE ]
Except that there isn't any way to tell who is teamed together, unless you're on the same team. Sending tells to multiple people on the same team is still nicer than trying to blind them (although or course they would never see the blinds because they are already on a team). You're still the better person for having asked first.

[ QUOTE ]
Send mistells to the person that you were complaining about with a friend.

[/ QUOTE ]
I guarantee you this is never done intentionally. Isn't their embarrassment enough punishment for their bad behaviour? Wouldn't a more useful statement of this be that it's uncool to badmouth your fellow players behind their backs?

[ QUOTE ]
Assume that everyone on the team is of the same sexual orientation or that they have the gender of their toon.

[/ QUOTE ]
Spoken like a crossdresser, sir. What difference does it make what the rl gender or sexual preference of your fellow player is? Are you one of those who feels compelled to drool over your virtual female companions? Or do you like making comments that people of another gender or preference might find offensive? How about instead we just agree to use the same decorum with a group that we would in real life?

And here's one of mine: don't continuously make lascivious comments to your apparently female teammates. Some of us are actually female, and that's sexual harassment. I can't image male players enjoy it much either. Plus, you're getting woody over a CARTOON, stalker boy. Get a life.

Yes I have a kinectics and everytime I get invited to teams, they all seem to be set on invincible and we are fighting +4's.Then I get HEAL ME HEAL ME,and I remind them I missed 7 times in a row because we are way in over our head. Then comes the, your just a NOOB.

[/ QUOTE ]
OMG yes. So here are two more of mine.

When recruiting for a team, make it CLEAR the level of the mish. My tells are usually something like, "Are you interested in lvl xx mish in [zone]?" If the player accepts, please warn them if the diff is something outrageous, and offer them the option of leaving if they aren't up to it. Don't lowball recruit and expect your Controllers two levels below the team average to be able to do anything against the +4's you're fighting because you forgot to mench that your diff is invincible.

Someone else suggested that you should never assume that a Def is a healer. I'd like to add that you should never, ever, ever, recruit a Controller in the expectation that she/he has heals or can act as the team's solo healer. Example: my ice/storm troller was recruited to a team of jokers who got off on incurring debt. Natch, she was two levels behind everyone else and the diff was invincible. After getting killed 6 times in less than 10 minutes, I quit. The leader then sent a tell demanding to know why I did. "Because you don't have enough heal support," I answered, to which he replied that I was the healer. Which leads to my next one:

Never recruit someone as a healer without knowing what their heals are. My example: An ice/storm troller CAN'T HEAL THEMSELVES, and once that toon goes down, you got no healer at all.

Don't call people "noob" when they can't do what you are expecting or demanding them to do. Chances are you are being an ignorant jerk and expecting/demanding something that isn't possible. Know the capabilities of the people you recruit. Don't expect them to be able to do something that can't be done with their build. Don't criticise ATs that you have never played.

2. when your invitation to "omg gather for AM plz" is politely declined, it is bad form to call me an idiot. because then I'm less inclined to pull the mob that you aggro'ed off of you while you're screaming for heals.

3. if you happen to have a tank, but you decide that you want to run ahead and aggro anyway, do not blame the tank when you faceplant. that's just rude.

-players not answering tells, or half of them, or (more frequently) answering 15Min later when it's not needed anymore, then getting upset about it.

Randomly send tells to people telling them your 'new' VG is recruiting. Especially if you don't pay attention to whom you're contacting and contact the same person day after day.

For the record, I wouldn't want to join a SG whose method of recruitment was random tells.

Accepts team invite finds that the mission is in another zone, and I'm 1.6miles from the ferry and that there's 7 minutes left on the mission(It's a mayhem mission)

What's the problem? With teleport you can make it in 2-3 minutes, tops.

Hrm. Ah, well. I have a few.

Do not...

- Run away from your Dark Miasma def/corr/MM. If I run up to hug you, it's probably because I'm about to use twilight grasp to try to heal you so you don't die. Repeated violations of this will likely result in me concluding it's simply more end efficient to Howling Twilight you, because at least then you can't run away from me.

- Tell me my powerset/build is underpowered. I solo stuff on relentless with no issue whatsoever.

- Try to tell me that vet badges = uberleetgodlike knowledge of the game. More often than not, yes, it means you have more experience, but there've been moments where I've been forced to wonder...

- Expect me to PvP. You can enjoy it all you like. Just because you love it doesn't mean I do.

- Ask for an invite to a vg as a level 6 and say "Oh, sweet, 50s. Could you guys PL me?" This isn't to say 'don't accept if it's offered', but don't just expect 50s to pl you.

- Think that just because I'm an MM I'm a tank spec MM. I don't play like that, and much prefer to play more like a defender whose damage is largely independent of their end bar.

- Aim for my anchor. Please. I understand if you accidentally AoE it or somesuch, but your constant sniping of them makes me think you don't -want- Darkest Night up.

Just as a general point:

"Never talk about a set as if you understand it without spending at least three months in-game playtime with it, and have run it for all 50 levels."

New players can have valid viewpoints, but rarely will they have a fully cohesive view of powers and how they react throughout the full course of the game.

This isn't elitism, it's simply a fact of experience.

[/ QUOTE ]

.... That -is- elitist...

I played for 2 full years before I finally buckled down and took a character to 50. Each character I made had obvious Advantages and Disadvantages. I didn't need a level 50 to tell me how to make my character or 'Build For Success'.

I've never resorted to using a guide on my builds, either... Getting to level 50 isn't the only way to learn. Some people are just better at math than others. Some are more tactically minded. Still others are capable of completing a task through sheer and determined stubborn.

I might fall into the last catergory.. >.>

[/ QUOTE ]

I wholeheartedly agree. Elitists, and in fact all 'ists, need to stop and think of how they fealt the first month of playing for them. I am so tired of being talked down to by Elitists just because they bought the game before I did and/or they don't have to work 70 hours a week so they can get to lvl 50 in 1 week, where it takes me 4 months.

Everyone will have an opinion and talking about your powersets and builds can help you learn more and may even teach the Elitist a few things they did not think of before.

As the old saying goes, "2 minds are better than 1".

1. just because you have AM and speed boost, doesn't mean that I want AM or speed boost.

2. when your invitation to "omg gather for AM plz" is politely declined, it is bad form to call me an idiot. because then I'm less inclined to pull the mob that you aggro'ed off of you while you're screaming for heals.

Wait, so you assume no one wants AM and Speed Boost and should have to ask your permission to give them, but you turn right around and assume everyone wants your heals so bad they're screaming for them? What if someone said to you:

1. just because you have Healing Aura and heal other, doesn't mean that I want Healing Aura or heal other.

Would you think they were an idiot? Seriously, it's only good sense to want powers that help you, and think teammates who refuse help and thus don't contribute as much to the team are doing something wrong. You don't want people to get killed by overaggro and not having your heals, they don't want you to heal too slow because your recharge and endurance aren't buffed.

I team with the Repeat Offenders.

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear about the situation.
I wasn't playing a healer, I was on a /regen scrapper.
I already have enough trouble controlling the toon (he moves pretty fast with super speed as is) I had been buffed with SB a number of times already, and it was making things way out of wack for me. at the start of the next mission I moved up ahead of the group a bit, so I wouldn't be in immediate range, I then politely said in team chat "no SB for me thank you." at which point I was called an idiot.

later in the mission he decided to jump ahead and aggro a mob on his own, while myself, and the rest of the team were busy with another mob, so I let him hang himself. so that's why I added the part about screaming for heals, as a bit of humor.

I apologise if I offended you in some way.

If your bored of the game enough not to play and just stand around waiting to try and be "Epic" QUIT. lol
Example of what just happened to me on freedom, villain side, =

question guy = Are they fixing when your bots ur get stuck?
Me = i don't know if theres any commands, but u could either dismiss and recall, or use recall friend?
question guy = i dont have recal friend, and assualt bot takes 2 mins to get back, bit anoying in mission to re-summon...
me= Hmm true, well one thing u could do is set ur bot to stay, then move 150 yrds, that will make the bot drop at ur location
question guy = really?
me = yeah, ive used that in a pvp a couple of times as a "shock tactic" lol
Random ghetto vet = Hey Rag pvp me, thats a stupid idea and it will never work ..
me = of course it wont work, u know what to expect...
Random ghetto vet = it wont work, your wrong, i have 47 lvl 50's, i know, your 3month vet, you dont know.

( note this vet has like every single vet reward yeah, but that in no means makes me wrong >< )

this goes on for about 2 mins before i block. seriously? its like some people just sit there waiting for someone to say something so they can pounce on them. am i the best pvper in the game? No, did i mention that ? No. if u move 150yrds from ur pets do they respawn at your location? Yes.

What i find weird , is how "elitist's" arnt sick of it? it happens all the time, you would think at 1 point 1 of them would take theyre thumb out of were the sun don't shine and say "this is stupid".
Seriously if i ever get to a point i have nothing better to do then hang around waiting for moments like that, il quit the game :P
