no problem. after re-reading my post and seeing what you were saying. I see how that was confusing.

I really just meant that buffers should be aware of those who have requested not to be buffed. I play several controllers/defenders as well, and like a poster above me mentioned, its a good idea to have a pen and paper to keep track of who doesn't want the buff.

it even makes my job easier sometimes, less people to buff= ready to go faster.

Why do Kins SB people just as they start running? People overshoot their mark. If they have hurdle instead of sprint and no combat jump it just gets silly. I'd SB people inside a fight duration, not moving towards mobs or holes in a cave floor.

When I'm playing my Kin defender, I usually pass out Speed Boosts between fights like that. That's because during the fight, I'm usually too busy using my other powers like Transfusion, Fulcrum Shift, my blasts, etc.

As for people turning down Speed Boost, I usually assume people want it unless they tell me otherwise. But if they don't, I'll respect their wishes and stop using it on them.

For the same reason they run off before they can be bubbled?

A melee player (could include blappers) hears the sound of a power firing. That means the fight has started, so they rush in to attack. Being number three on the list, they get the buff just about 1/2 way to the mobs and zoom off. That player has no idea that the sound they heard was a buff, and to the rest of the team, the the guy that ran off was in the wrong.

A lot of people do it when My Fire Troller casts smoke, or a TA uses Flash Arrows. They see or hear an "attack" and react to it.

When I play any char that has single target buffs, I'll announce that buffs are going out if we're standing, or I'll wait until the fight has started to do them. It doesn't always work.

My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.

From playing a Tanker I'd be the one to run in, I find I am at one speed and so prepare to stop just in the middle, then its whoosh, suddenly I have overshot my mark. Admittedly I could ask for SB but I always build to play in a way that its never really essential so SB pls is rarely required. If I got slowed then its fine, that would happen within a fight duration and around slows its fine.

I think there is too many people with builds that have pocket kins as a prerequisite. Without a kin they can't function. Its like exemping, once people lost a couple of tier powers they can't show others what good players they really are and have to moan about it.

People will have to ask for it to get it out of me half the time.

Don't scream at me via tells and broadcasts to use HT. I don't want to read the chat window in the middle of a firefight. There's a good reason I didn't use it - it had not recharged yet. The dead guy is still getting xp and can wait 30seconds.

While I'm distracted by you, I'm not healing. If I'm not healing then those players who aren't dead are losing health. Eventually they die.

Yeah one clown caused a team wipe by whining at me. I think he went down too and if so I'm delighted.

Being on a team with multiple kins....
1 - being the only one sb'ing people
2 - not getting sb'd
3 - politely asking in chat, and never receiving sb

It's a kins life to sb people, if you can't keep at least the other kin sb'd by lvl 27, seriously reroll, a buffing char is not for you.

People that run off while I'm sb'ing people, exploring, etc, and then whine during battle for sb.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why sb when people are moving to the next mob? I spam sb to at least 1/2 the team between every mob, usually everybody (who wants it) is sb'd constantly with me. Animation time vs power recharge....you where standing there when I buffed you...you where running off when it fired. Maybe paying attention to the kin's buff routine will save some grief?
For those that over run their mark the F key is your friend, the game mechanics will keep you from over running even with sb.
You ALMOST had me... until you said this.
As someone who's played his share of Kinetics, I can assure you that it's not a "kin's[sic] life to sb people", and it's players who insist that a Kin's sole role is to SB the team that drives us away... or makes it so that you never get one from us. Ever.
Should a Kin be SBing if he has the power? Sure. Should he feel obligated? Perhaps... But should you feel entitled? No way.
should a tank hold agro? should a blaster attack? should an astronaut wear a space suit... I love silly questions..
Great JOB!... HOW DARE YOU ASK FOR SPEED BOOST HOW DARE YOU! TAKE IT BACK.. NOW! or else NO MORE.. I TOOK THIS POWER WITH NO INTENTION OF USING IT.. ALLZ I WANTED waz Fulcrum SHIFTZOR butz i had too take dis power or else people would call me a NOOOOB...
As a kin you should on an 8 man team pressing that SB button fairly often unless you are doing it wrong that is what he meant home slice. As a kin I honestly can not play one too long otherwise I have nightmares of SB people but that is the power set.. enjoy!
*Conman* Wishes for a PBAOE SB so hard.. sad panda time.
Let me clarify please. I have three level 50 kins and several more of assorted levels. No where do I say that sb'ing is a kin's solo roll. Anyone who has played the set to fruition knows there is a lot more to the set then sb.
Do I feel entitled to have sb? When I'm on a team with more then one kin and I'm keeping up to seven other team mates sb'd with no assistance from the other kin INCLUDING the other kin(s) (mostly due to habit). Then I can honestly say yes, I do feel entitled to have it. If I'm on any other character, but a kin dishing out sb, then I'm happy to have it, but do not feel entitled to have it.
The big "DON'T" IMHO:
- Don't expect anything of another player.
Key word there is "expect". It's all about whether you would like to enjoy playing. If your expectations start at zero, then you will enjoy it when you get more. If your expectations start at 100, then you will always be disappointed, annoyed, and growling at others.
So you just gotta ask yourself one question: Would I rather enjoy playing, and be pleasantly surprised when it's going half-well, or would I rather hate playing, and be constantly annoyed when it's going half-awful?
Believe it or not, the only difference is perspective. If you are annoyed and growling at people, then guess what? It's you doing that to yourself. Period. The problem is that most people believe they have no control over their expectations. Yes, we do. Really. We can learn to lower our expectations. But that's too big of a topic for forum post...
For the love of God, don't assume that just because a player plays an anthro toon (cat- and bunny girls, for example) they are:
-male
-a furry
-gay (or "[censored]")
-female and looking for attention
-wanting your lewd comments and bizarre innuendos
And when I and my friends choose to roleplay or PvP on a generally non-RP or non-PvP server, don't tell us "Go to [server], n00b!" We pay for the game just like everybody else, and we're entitled to enjoy it in our own way, just like everybody else, as long as we aren't griefing anyone.
Want the honest answer?
Because it's funny as hell watching you shoot off the cliff like a cat with it's tail on fire on the ITF.
Seriously. Comedy gold. almost as funny as watching you hit the doorframe 16 times, and funnier than watching you get stuck in the ceiling in a cave mission when you are bunny-hopping your way around and get IR'd
omg I almost died laughing at this.. good thing I work at a hospital.
on topic: I have had that happen to me a lot, good friend plays the kin, I am the rad. if I over shoot because of that .. hope I dont drag 1 or more mobs back with me when I come to help with the mob I shot past. (If I die for your enjoyment I will also see about passing on the fun).
What not to do in CoX? Dont forget to turn your TP prompt on.
I have an even more fun thing to do...when some clown spends all his time AFK, sucking up XP with no contribution, they're just ASKING to be transported into the middle of a bunch of mobs. And then kicked from team.
And yes, it CAN be done, even with his teleport prompt on.
Ninja TF quitting. That's one that annoys me.
Your team is working together well. All your powers are meshing. Right before the big AV, someone quits. (you turn in time to see a smoke bomb as your teammate pulls a Ninja quit).
Try this: Sorry guys! Big emergency at work, I have to go. (then quit)
Friend's car just broke down. I have to go get my stranded friend. I probably won't be back before the tf ends (then quit)
Or heck, even this: Diarrhea! gotta go naaaao! (then quit)
What not to do in CoX?
1. Be rude.
2. No matter how bad a team gets, I mean faceplants, do not just quit a team, discuss it first - politely. Just quitting is... uh... spineless and self centered.
3. Use lots of "l33t" language or poor language like you use typing on a cell phone. Some of us are older, not part of the "text" generation. Please do not give potential teammates a headache.
4. discuss politics
5. Watching some guy trying to hit on a female toon... odds are that on the other end of that "female" toon is a guy... besides... it just looks wierd.
6. Telegraph just how immature you are by making a female toon that looks like Dolly Parton and then dress her in the least amount of clothing you can use... come on, where are your parents? I know if my kid made one like that he would have seen it deleted and been suspended from play. Besides, it will likely offend a real female (yeah, 9 might let it pass, but 1 will raise hell) out there and may cut your choices/chances for teams later.
7. Be a panhandler... get a job... play the game.
8. Cuss on broadcast, team, anyplace... all you are doing is announcing your lack of command of the language and showing your age, and quite possibly displaying that your address is in a trailer park in North Dakota or a tenement in the Bronx. Show some class, even if you were not born with it.
