Someone ought to send that button over to the littler box.
Hilarity ensues.

A more boring and far more likely guess would be an enhancement store. If I'm wrong, I'll be happily surprised.

Nope. Temp powers/buffs.
[/ QUOTE ]
If this means SGs can arm their members with a renewable supply of Blackwands and Stolen SMGs (even if it's just 10 shots at a time) I will be deliriously happy.
The people complaining need to lighten up. CoH has five issues of content for you to play with; it's almost a finished game, for all intents and purposes (I say 'almost' because of the lack of 35-40 content to get people over the hump). It was known for a long time that I7 was going to be devoted primarily to completing the villain game.
It's been four months because the bar is set higher. CoH just had to install the 40-50 content at first. Taking all its other updates into consideration, CoV has a lot more to add than just a few new zones and missions. The Patron Powers surely required a fair bit of development, as do the new villain power sets.
Besides, if this were Everquest, you'd have had to PAY for six expansions by now.

Then I guess I would like to know:
1) Is the plan to make CoH a "finished" game, because that's not what I expected from an MMO.
2) How many "issues" is it going to take to complete CoV? 3? 5? I was under the impression that the issues were "combined". If not, that's fine. I would just like to know how long I'll be waiting for significant additions to CoH, so I can maybe plan a break from it.
And, again, I understand that the process to upgrade CoV is the same as it was for CoH back in '04.....but don't forget, back in '04, the devs didn't have a bunch of subscribers playing another game while CoH was being improved. That is the case now, however, and should probably be factored into any planning for updates.

$contactname: Hey there $playername, I wanted to let you in on one of the ways I and some friends of mine gather info on the various menaces plaguing the city. Each zone's division of the Paragon City Police Department uses a specific radio network to commmunicate up to date information of major crimes going on.
.
Positron created the hardware that the police communicate over and it's very secure. They only give the access codes and frequencies out to people who have proven themselves to be on the side of justice. If you wish, you can go talk to the Security Chief in each zone and if you prove yourself to him, they'll let you have the frequency. that way, you can respond to trouble even faster!
.
Atlas Park and Galaxy City are the two safest places in the city, so they don't have networks. Go talk to to the King's Row Security Chief if you want your first set of access codes.
.
Good luck, $playername!
.
Oh! One last thing, you didn't hear this from me but there are rumors that the PCPD has undercover scouts in each of the hazard zones laying low and broadcasting events to the brave heroes who venture into those dangerous areas. If you manage to find one of them, you can get their codes too.
.
Thanks, I'll go talk to the KR Security Chief right now.
Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty busy right now. I'll talk to him later.

Definitely QFT. Hate to remember how much money I dumped on THAT game.
<Flashes himself with MIB light>
... what were we talking about again?
Please feel free to complain about the balance with the updates AFTER CoV can even tread water with 50s thanks.
You would think that it's as clear as day, but sure enough people are so narrowminded that they only care about themselves and can't see the big picture.
CoV was released just recently, and you complain that the first update since then is geared mainly to those that are capped at 80%?
I'm sorry, what color is the sky in your world where you would release a new game only to neglect it because some loudmouthed forum goers playing the old one won't get their next cookie for a few more months.
Sorry, but it's time to share the development sandbox kids.
Now if Issue 8 comes around and it's skewed heavily one way or the other for no GOOD reason, by all means flame away.

States, i know CoV needs content to fill in the end game now. I accept that.
I have no issue with MOST of the content being CoV only.
I do however not see a reason to give Brutes yet another armor set, for a total of six, while the tankers have been complaining of their primary just having 4 options since release.
Energy aura should be given to tankers simply because we already have energy melee.
And electric armor should also be there, it fits perfectly with the elemental nature of all tankers (other than invuln).
I also know that brutes do need more offensive sets since they have less than tankers, so i do realize them, but also think warmace, axe and broadsword should be available to them, maybe with a bit diferent art.
PLEASE dont ignore the tanker's lack of armor sets any longer! I know shields are comming but that is
A) far away
B) still short of what brutes have
C) still no synergy set for Energy Melee despite it already existing.
Just giving tankers energy aura and maybe hopefuly electric/electric would alone make many think this ACTUALLY has CoH content AND at the same time will fill one of the long time tanker issues.
If the sets exits i see no reason why they cant fit a tanker with just a bit of training room testing.

EQ 2 added over 1000 quests for free. They added dozens of instanced zones and dungeons. They've updated the main zones multiple times to keep them fresh and new. They are giving new and old players a free update this week that brings tons of race specific content to the lowbie game. They update with new content, QoL fixes and balancing on the order of every six weeks. EQ2 launched six months after CoH and they are on their 19th major update. Most of those updates added as much content as Issue 4 and a few rivaled the Issue 1 and 2 updates.
That's the free stuff.
They have had two adventure packs for $5 and one expansion for $30. That adds up to $40. That's less than the $50 dollars you had to pay for CoV. The lies told about SOE on these boards is amazing.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
[ QUOTE ]
As several have noted, I7 features content mostly for City of Villains (levels 41 to 50, in fact). This is exactly what we did for CoH. City of Heroes will receive a cool graphics upgrade, new base items (Empowerment stations!) and access to Recluses Victory. Its true that CoV received more attention, but thats mainly because we needed to fill out the levels. I had the option of releasing I7 or waiting until we could fill out the City of Heroes content. Obviously, I chose the former. New content should get out there when its ready. We'll be focusing equally as much as possible on each product moving into the future...
For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they arent
yet. Thats coming a little later in the year. Id like to add something different to the CoH system
[/ QUOTE ]
Let us look carefully at this post.
First off, no insult meant to you Mister Statesman, but I'm a little disappointed.
This is exactly what we did for CoH.
Yes it is! But...you kind of forgot something. CoH was all you had at that time when you did it. CoV is not alone, it has CoH which is running alongside it and has it's own indepedent subscribers who were looking forward to many things.
Some of those things being the Newspaper-esque missions.
Which according to your post we won't be seeing.
You also don't mention about why Brutes are getting the Electric sets yet Tanks remain shafted when it pertains to choices.
And again, no comment on the Shields powerset, which Tanks are "supposed"(Probably not) to get.
You also fail to comment on why you're basically slapping a cosmetic change, one that should have happened at I6, onto CoH for I7.
This is, of course, disappointing since it feels like you're simply rushing I7 out the door. Rather than waiting for a whole slew of new options and selections you instead cut it in half, being the CoV stuff only, and throw it in. Then you hastily fix what should have happened months ago(Cosmetic change), and state promises of "We'll be adding in more stuff for heroes sometime later".
Can we at the very least get some definitive listing of what you're working on for heroes? Or are we simply going to have to /hope/ that you aren't lying and trying to get us to waste our money?
How about the whole Archtype Rep thing that you were seemingly working on? I haven't heard much about that.
How about, I believe _castle_'s work on fixing Defender bugs and imbalances?
How about ideas on what other bugs/issues you'll be fixing?
Do I hate you for this? No.
I'm just disappointed. It's poor business planning to give only to one side and ignore the dedicated other side that was holding out for fun stuff.
Will the mission sharing feature for completing the same mission on a team at least make it to V7? At least give us some kind of table scrap from 4 months ago.
Please don't make us wait 6-10 months for this also.

The EQ 2 devs post on the order of three times as much as these devs, have added a like amount of free content, have only had one paid expansion and two paid adventure packs and the combat balancing was certainly no worse than I5 and ED.

Please tell me it'll be a police scanner. Totally hero activity right there.
I just have to laugh here, really nothing you can do but laugh.
I knew heroes weren't getting anything significant this issue, why should we? All the developers are off playing villians. Heh
We're now weakened enough to not cause much trouble in PvP zones and I think the developers like eating heroes.
You know that huge ton of nerfs villians were going to get this issue? I don't hear rumor of it now. The powersets, the missions, waiting for personal apartments. As I said, I'm not disappointed, as I knew it was coming.
All those people out there I tip my hat to you. I hope you keep your hope alive always thinking the next issue will make City of Heroes a fraction of what it once was. Keep watching while villians are made into Gods, while heroes lay broken and bruised.
We see where the loyality of the developers lay. Two staffs each creating content for 1 game, hah, don't make me laugh. They don't even have enough art design people to make new content regularly. So I imagine both staffs only have enough time, energy to work on one of the two. Seems that Villians are easier.
I wish all of you best of luck, to have what fun you can. I will sit and laugh at all those who told me the next issue. I will laugh as the developers laugh at heroes trying to keep up hope. I can only do what I have been doing. Laugh away my days.
Good job developers, keep up the super work.

We shouldn't have to share the development sandbox.
CoV is suppose to have it's own development sadnbox; we were told this in the beginning.
That way both games get updated, not just one.
The Devs changed their minds (without telling us) however, and people are irate about it.

Big change since EQ(1). Glad to see the competition is actually competing as far as customer support is concerned, especially with WoW and CoX at their heels.

I'm playing Devil's Advocate for a sec:
What about the people that only have CoV? Don't you think they are elated to get new content after having a toon stalled at 40 for 4 months while their hero counterparts are strolling around at 50?
I think Abe Lincoln said it best: You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm still amused at my own imagination. CoH has had 5 updates. Imagine if CoV followed CoH's development path exactly... No new content for heroes for 4 more updates...
<insert maniacal laughter here>
