Prestige, SG Mode and Bases

It is not forced grouping.
I know there are several solo SGs out there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but do you really think that solo SG will get enough prestige to finance a base???
[/ QUOTE ]
Eventually, yes.
[ QUOTE ]
What I'm worried/confused about is, does each member accumulate his own prestige or is it just one big "pool" for the entire SG? Meaning could someone concievably start with a full SG, build up beaucoup prestige, boot everyone but him and then erect himself a ultra cool uber base?
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesn't matter. In either situation, a Supergroup leader could boot everyone from the Supergroup once the base was built.
Since only one person (the Architect) can actually build the base, the Prestige will eventually have to be pooled anyway. So I hope that they save a step and have Prestige go right into a singel Supergroup pool so that everyone can keep track of it as it's earned.
*rubs chin* the true question is are we going to be able to enter our bases and check them out once they're built. may be an obvious answer, but it hasnt really been addressed now has it.

I would like to point out something I strongly believe.
IMO, they will not datamine and award pestige for being in SG mode before CoV.
I believe as the badges were too much of an undertaking for this staff, this would be also.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's already been confirmed that they have been actively recording SG mode usage and prestige aquisitions, since probably Issue 4.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. We have NOT been recording SG mode since ANY issue. I will also confirm that NO datamining will be happening (for exactly the reasons given above).

That's untrue.

hey, I only said 'could'. ;P
I'm just trying to envision how the Devs would tackle this obvious problem of redundant Inf. As you advance, you have to spend Inf to upgrade Enhancements. That makes sure there's something you *need* to keep spending on. From 47 on up, you never need to spend Inf to upgrade anything ever again, but the Inf keeps rolling in indefinitely.
The idea seems to be that low levels need Inf, so they can carry on earning it in SG mode (albeit less than they would get out of SG mode) while the upper levels can afford to forget about Inf and just earn Prestige.

Thanks Positron! Excellent news!
Are they recording Prestige now? If so, how can you tell?

While the Architect is the primary base builder, as stated, there isnt enough information about base building to say that's the only option.
Also, None of the Devs ever said that single person SG's could not have enough prestige to upkeep their own base.
There is alot of assumption going on, and Umption doesn't appreciate it
Folks, I have a feeling that the idea is that in CoH and CoV we have equal time to earn prestige.
So I can see them turning the feature on at the same time in both games.
Otherwise, if they datamined CoH, the SG's in CoH would have a year and a half worth of Prestige and be able to get SG bases too strong, that no Villian SG would be able to beat them.

Prestige shouldn't be recorded until after Bases are available (if not when CoV goes Live). Not so much like it couldn't happen earlier, but it would only be fair for those who are going to buy CoV, since they'll have less time to earn it than the Heroes, for every one to have an equal chance of earning prestige.

... Posi just said that they weren't.
Relax, guys. They'll give us lots of notice before Prestige earning kicks in.

How is that good news? It means that until the prestige system goes in, nobody is earning any and an SG that's been around since Day 1 has to start from scratch just like a brand new SG just made to get a small base.

Yep. That's good news.
Because the alternative is that people get retroactively rewarded or penalised on a completely arbitrary basis.
Im in aggreeance. I am going to be playing both games...no no beta yet jsut saying Im going to be on both...so I think it would be incredibly unchallenging, and unfair, if on Day 1 of prestige being earned...viola..the Super Hero SG's already suddenly have a massive base and uber killing mode. How exaclty would that be fair when I go to raid my hero SG with my villian SG? It wouldn't so therefore this IS good news...so stop whining (no offense intended) like everyone else always does over something that is obviously a good thing.

Well, Recluse is evil....
True enough. I get the feeling that the fan slightly mis-interpreted the info thus the assertion that SGs would have tons of it and to play in SG mode all the time.

I wouldn't worry too much. A super group filled with level 40+ members is going to be able to score TONS of prestige quickly on the day CoV goes live (unless they're all over playing CoV).
The CoV groups have to start from scratch and balance between gimping themselves and having a super base.
I'll also point out there I know of several supergroups that move their level 50s to an allied group to make space in the main super group. (We did this.) What happens to any prestige those level 50 toons might have earned?
I'm completely okay with everyone starting at 0 on the day CoV goes Live.

Except for one thing...
I think it's been mentioned that you rent the bases, not buy them.
If a SG earns a base, and the leader kicks everyone, where is he gonna come up with next months "rent" for the whole SG?
[ QUOTE ]
I think it's been mentioned that you rent the bases, not buy them.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was under the impression that it was both. You first buy the base and then pay upkeep on it. As of yet, we don't know how much the upkeep will be (I suspect it will be proportional to the base size and complexity) and so it's quite possible that one person might be able to maintain a base all on his onesies.
Having said that, I think a Fortress of Solitude works great for Superman, but would probably be pretty boring and lame in City of Heroes. I mean, what good is a huge, uber base if you're the only one to ever see it? You surely can't allow base raids because you'd be utterly defenseless.
So unless your Supergroup leader is a complete jagoff, I really don't this issue is worth worrying about.
[ QUOTE ]
Yep, but within a SG, if members are busily earning Prestige instead of Inf, the reserves of Inf from the high level members could well get drained quicker than we are expecting.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's untrue.
My SG took an initiative and made a "bank" (before we knew about this Prestige stuff, obviously). We had long since broke 1 billion influence, and over 100 million of it was donated by a single person. I personally donated 20 million, and then made back half in a week.
Now this isn't QUITE the same, but if you replace the donated influence with prestige (being, it's theoretically the same, just it's Inf I made but cannot use vs gaining prestige instead of inf) it sorta shows that once you get a certain level you are so inf rich that you can stand to lose all of it (or, just have no net income) and probably make it back very quickly.
Especially post Issue 5, the influence bonuses for bosses and AVs are incredible.
