What's Wrong With Galaxy City?
GC all the way...first, I'd rather see a girl any day, but most importantly, where you train and the TRAM is much closer in GC than AP
Shhh. Quiet. Galaxy city is where all the smart people hang out that is why there are so few of us. When starting a new toon low lag and trainer/store is closer to tram than Atlas with no climbing.
Now as to why everyone hangs at Atlas I assume that they are afraid to go out alone and Atlas Park pretty much assures that.
----------------------------
You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.
I nearly always start in Galaxy, so I've no clue. IMO, it's more convenient than AP. Tram, Hospital, trainer, arena ... all in more or less one central area. Plus Gemini Park.
Not only is it the first choice, it's got a larger font on the select buttons.
when the choices are
ATLAS PARK or Galaxy City
most people are going to pick Atlas.

Besides, you don't get your Hollows mission from your first contact, so usually you have to run from KR to hollows no matter where you start (*muttergrumble*)
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, you can skip your second contact all together. As soon as you finish your first contact, you can head directly to hollows and talk to wincott, he'll hook you up with missions without having to run to kr or wherever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually you can skip all your contacts and just go to wincott anytime after lvl 5 and he will start giving you missions. I usually street sweep to 5 or 6 then head to the hollows without ever going to see any other contact.

Contacts will send you to the Hollows, but you don't have to do Wincott's missions. If you don't want to play in the Hollows, just talk to him, get the free xp, and go back to the contact that sent you there. Hollows didn't even exist until Issue 2, IIRC. You don't have to play there if you don't want to do so. The run is a pain in the rear, but at least Wincott's close to the entrance now.
As far as run being faster than fly....do you mean "fly" or "hover?" I can guarantee that flight is faster than running. many moons ago, I tried to follow a friend who had flight....I had swift, and had turned on sprint. He was quite a bit faster than I.
Oh...on topic: I always start in GC. Too hard to move around in Atlas, and far more "help" than I need/want from other players.
I think it's the first contact you go to after you get to security level 6 (not necessarily trained up.. but leveled up) who sends you to the Hollows if you don't already have Wincott on your list of contacts.
You have two choices when he sends you to wincott -- stay in the hollows and do wincott's series of missions, or talk to Wincott, say no thanks to the missions, and head back to the contact.
I used to always do the latter because I didn't like the hollows missions. But lately I have been enjoying the missions in the Hollows more on teams so I am going 50/50 now for variety.
If you level past 10 in the Hollows without doing your other contacts' missions you miss out on some chances for badges.
I also like GC better. I started my first toon in beta in AP, and had a real hard time finding my way around, even finding Ms Liberty (that was before they put her on a pedestal). That seemed to be where the 1st wavers gathered to welcome/help us newbies of the 2nd wave, which was nice, but that was also where the over crowding first caused the mobs to stop spawning, totally. During the "no badguys" period, I moved over to GC, to scrounge for the few mobs that still spawned there, and I liked it much better, so I started all my toons there from then on.
Besides the lower crowds, and less KSing, I also seem to get fewer blind invites in GC (honestly people, why would I want to team with someone who can't even be bothered to say "hi" before sending the invite, much less ask me if I want to team)
There do seem to be more missions that send players from GC to AP, than vice-versa, which is a little inconveniant without travel powers.
I also always go back to GC to sell enhancements during my KR phase with each of my characters. It's so much handier.

And every time I start in Atlas, I'm reminded again of WHY I go with Galaxy, because I end up with a mission at level 3 to trek all the way to the west end of the map, over that huge dropoff into the level 6 territory.
[/ QUOTE ]
I learned very early the secret of power lines. In SW Atlas, you can usually hop from the wall at "the dropoff" to the top of the warehouse that is next to it, then there are power lines that lead from that warehouse to the warehouse across the street in the far corner. You avoid nearly everything in that SW corner of Atlas this way, and can drop right into your mission door easily. Even if you do draw attention, you're still out of melee range unless one of the villains finds a way up to the power lines.
Let's just hope the devs don't put some sort of DoT effect on power lines now.

Yes, Gemini Park is a great low level hunting ground. I almost always start in Galaxy because it IS less crowded. I never get lag when I come to Back Alley Brawler or go in to hit my first contacts and sell my meager exhancements. Galaxy isn't dead by any means, but it is less crowded, and that's exactly what I like about it.
Oh and the convenience thing is definitely true.
I've noticed sometimes Galaxy City is the first choice when finishing up outbreak....is it not random, or based on current population?
I usually pick based on when I feel in the mood for something different....I now find the Galaxy city mission travel times slightly shorter, so I go there more often.
If you are science origin, then you might as well start in GC. I makes it easier to find all the Vahzilok you could ever want.
Maybe I'm a recluse- but I always start in Galaxy City - less people and therefore easier to hunt- little or zero lag- and just more ...peaceful.
This is on Virtue by the way.
You know, just to throw this out there - I had a whole mess of crepes this morning. They're just like pancakes, maybe even better.

This actually depends on level. Fly scales as you level up. In the beginning, there really is not enough of a difference between the speed of fly and even simply sprint to make it really count. After a few levels, it is finally noticeable, but then it too close to the speed of swift to really count. The plus is though with flight, you can get over walls faster than sprint and swift where you have to run around and find a way up. I guess if you take into consideration the fact that flight can take the more direct path, then even at level 14 when you first take it, it is faster than swift.
Real heroes start in Galaxy.
Atlas is for PL/Influ beggars and posers.
Craft your inventions in AE!!
Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!
Galaxy is a ghetto compared to Atlas. You've got a B-List hero (non Freedom Phalanx) as the trainer, a mean undead infestation, and only recently a stadium (in order to revitalize the economic situation of the area one would assume).
[ QUOTE ]
My guess is because Altlas Park is the first choice and Galaxy City is the second. A lot of people seem to just roll with the default, especially if they don't know the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that there are other factors. Like if you start that conversation and then try to back out of it, doesn't it automatically throw you in atlas park? I also seem to remember that the letters of Galaxy City's words were shrunk down to fit into the button? It's like you're subliminally telling us to go to Atlas Park.
It's just a good thing tha Back Alley Brawler is so hot or nobody'd ever go there.

I've rolled up a lot of alts, and yeah it does alternate. I never could figure out if there was a pattern to it. (Not that I tried all that hard)
I pick Galaxy every time. I chose AP once, I forget why...maybe to meet someone there that had rolled up an alt, but it would have never been my first choice if it wasn't for that.

Playing tonight I noticed how, on the Justice Server anyways, Atlas and Galaxy are like night and day. Atlas Park is bustling with activity and crowded with low level heroes, while Galaxy City is quiet and empty. Only a few heroes stand around the Back Alley Brawler, while a huge mob surrounds Ms. Liberty.
Any ideas why this is? And what can be done to make people want to go to Galaxy?
[/ QUOTE ]
Simple answer...boobies.....Liberity's got'em...Brawler doesn't..
[/ QUOTE ]
Wellll there's Galaxy Girl, which a lot of people miss. I guess you prefer looking up at Atlas' crotch
As has been stated, Atlas Park is more crowded and its layout is definitely not friendly to the pre-travel-power hero. As a result, I always started in Galaxy City. Now the only time I don't start in Galaxy City is if I happen to play a peacebringer (since their contact is Sunstorm and located in Atlas Park) but fortunately as a peacebringer we get flight at level 1, so AP isn't all that bad at all.
[ QUOTE ]
When I first started the game, I was given a choice to talk to some guy named "Back Alley Brawler" or one "Ms. Liberty."
I thought, "which one would I rather look at?"

The hardcore fighter, not the glory girl.
My glory-hound and cornball characters start in Atlas Park. Heroes with a more serious background start in Galaxy City.
Atlas Park: 1970s DC Comics
Galaxy City: ABC Comics
It's quite simple. Galaxy attaches to Perez Park, and Kings Row, while Atlas attaches to Perez, Steel, Skyway, and Hollows. And seeing as how I think everyone other than PBs and WSs has to go to do the early Hollows missions, which means starting in Atlas is less travel time.

The Hollows missions are not mandatory. You can just about skip the Hollows, completely. The only thing that is hard to avoid is talking to Wincott at the Hollows entrance.
One more vote for Galaxy.
Having the tram right there near BAB is plusplus.
Oh, and there's no stupid costume contests or "I'll give you 500 inf if you can find me" idiot-hunts.
And the dance parties under the globe. Retch. Gag.
I guess if thats they way they want to spend thier $15, more power to them.
