What's Wrong With Galaxy City?

Personally I started my main in GC because Backalley Brawler made me think GC would be a tougher part of town, where as Ms Liberty made me think of patriotic boyscout heroes. And those inklings were is correct, what with the Vahz in GC, but I think GC needs something interesting in it besides the Park, which is an RP hangout on Virtue.

I know it is alot to ask, but perhaps changing one of the areas to an apartment complex overrun by Hellions. A grimy collection of buildings rising out of the industrial parks and warehouses, a patchwork of alleys full of gangsters, that sort of thing. Make it a yellow or red zone so the noobs will look at it and go, "Coo!l I wanna go there!" but have to prove themselves by gaining one or two levels first. Something to aspire to within the zone, a first initial challenge. Plus it would fit with the whole Backalley Brawler thing. There really are no backalleys in GC with all the warehouses which are not that interesting.

I start in atlas for alts I role that require teams, controllers, defenders and tanks. Just because its easier.

Scrappers and blasters Galaxy by a mile, uninterupted hunting, and typically better teams when I do get one.

I used to always just start in GC but after joining enough pick-up groups that dragged me over to atlas, only to have to run back to GC for contacts I got a bit sick of it. Still my favorite of the two.

Actually I like GC, you can get some fighting in without having to worry about the mobs being killed by someone passing by.

I think the Mires might scare people off in GC. its not for the newbies.

im not really sure why Galaxy is always empty..

It might be because Galaxy doesn't have easy access to the hollows??

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a good point. I have to say, I always start my alts in Galaxy. Fewer people, less stupid stuff going on in Broadcast, and much less lag. When I play an alt on Champion and have to go to The Hollows, I hate coming back to train/sell in Atlas. My hero looks like the Bionic Woman, running in super slow-mo through courtyard. I have to get past the surrounding park before I can run at full speed again.

I ONLY go to Atlas when a) a contact makes me b) to get to The Hollows. And as soon as I can run through Skyway without getting killed on sight, I run through Skyway instead of Atlas.

Honestly, I feel like just being in Atlas Park drops my IQ by 50 points.

Atlas is flat. Galaxy seems better suited to people who at least have the first few minor-travel powers, such as hover, combat jumping or even hurdle/swift. Otherwise its a bit annoying to get around.

Funny because I feel the exact opposite. Atlas flat? Didn't strike me as so, but at the least it has a lot more high walls and over/under passes to figure your way around than GC does. I to this day always find it a pain to navigate around that industrial area especially.

Even the train can be a pain to reach in Atlas if you approach it from the wrong direction. GC tram is closer to the main trainer and not something you regularly need a stairway or ledge to reach.

I haven't actually measured it, but GC also just feels smaller, which means faster to get to your missions and back. I get to level 5 easily faster starting in GC.

I hate the layout of AP. I have ALWAYS leveled my peeps in GC. There is this great park just outside of perez that has lvl 5-6 mobs, including many bosses. I can take my characters there and hit 6 to 8 in an hour or killing greens and blues.

I used to always go to Galaxy because:

1) I like the layout better.
2) I like the park right outside the Perez Park entrance (the first time I ran into an Eidelon there, I thought I was fighting a real villain, and I loved it).
3) I like that entrance way into Perez Park better than the Atlas one.

But since they added the Hollows and since Galaxy is not just less busy than Atlas, but can actually be kind of depressingly quiet sometimes, I usually start heroes in Atlas now. Convenience to the Hollows and community playing the game makes Atlas more fun to me. Who cares if it's newbies - it's just nice to see other heroes running around.

One change the devs should make: Galaxy ought to have better access to the Hollows. That is one change that would be an improvement for Galaxy that everyone would probably like. It's bad enough that you have to slog all over the Hollows if you want to run missions there - having to take the tram to Atlas to get there is a lot of wasted time...

...Atlas and Galaxy are like night and day. Atlas Park is bustling with activity and crowded with low level heroes, while Galaxy City is quiet and empty. Only a few heroes stand around the Back Alley Brawler, while a huge mob surrounds Ms. Liberty. Any ideas why this is? And what can be done to make people want to go to Galaxy?

I prefer to pick Atlas over Galaxy because Atlas gives access to the Hollows. Maybe if Galaxy were to give access to Croatoa, more people would be found there. Also, if arena usage ever picks up, I think you'll see more traffic there.

I have donated inf from my 50 for a costume contest exactly once. Did it in Galaxy, of course. I may do it again, this time for a character tell bind contest.

I love GC. AP has been completly taken over by juveniles this summer, and I get annoyed seeing all the B.S. on broadcast about inapropriate behavior etc. I will train my char's in GC all the way up to lvl 20 or so, when it becomes easier to greenline to talos. Back alley Brawler is a little over one SJ away from the yellow line, and there is a hero corps trainer to sell off enhancements to right there as well. Plus I like to "donate" training enhancements to lowbies when I find them there too. GC is mapped out 300 times as easy for getting around town as AP. There are ramps in prime locations and for the most part, you can run in a straight line to wherever you are going.

I see a lot of posts about Vaz being rampant in GC. I dont think I have ever had a problem with them there. They are almost never on the main roads, and are pretty easy to avoid if you want in the back alleys. Plus, the fact you can fight a Vaz boss at lvl 5 is pretty fun too. I cant think of any bosses in AP at all off the top of my head, though I seldom hunt there. PLus it is much easier to find a team in GC, by which I mean most players in GC are interested in playing the game and not chatting, dancing, etc.
What Galaxy needs is a gate to a higher lvl zone besides PP and KR. Like a gate to Brickstown or Founders would be awsome, especially Founders, or even to IP. It would bring up the traffic.

What the game really needs is a Galaxy City counterpart to Peregrine Island.

I know people have mentioned the whole thing about how they like Atlas cause it has easier access to the Hollows. But after my "many" alts all being based in AP and doing MANY Hollow missions I need a change of scenery.

So my next character will be based in GC and avoiding all missions to the Hollows to get a fresh feel (let alone can't remember the last time I visited Skyway either).

I personally believe the choice is one based on spectacle and convenience, Atlas Park has easier access to the Train, Hollows and Perez and hosts a larger player base so you may actually pick and choose who you play with. Atlas also offers us a rich monument to the backstory of CoH, easy enemies and a theme song you will remember as being heroic from lv 1 to 50. Aslo, with accolade aiding badges and both capes and aura missions having their contact in atlas there is a higher probability of a new or low character receiving aid, advice, contests and gifts provided by a higher character. ThatÂ’s my scoop on it.

Alot of people have said the same, and I have to wonder: Are you sure?

I think both areas are more similiar than people realize: Take Atlas, spin it 90 degrees, and bingo! You have Galaxy!

Galaxy: flat North; wall south

Atlas : Wall west; flat east

As a plus: the Galaxy wall is one-sided, you can jump off in one direction and it doesn't run across the entire zone! In Atlas you have to climb in both directions ( or run to the tunnel ).

Of course there are tricks to getting around in both places and they don't involve travel powers, just a little experience. Knowing how to use the ramps in the Atlas wall and where the stairs are on the Galaxy wall...

Another Galaxy City plus is that the Trainer is right outside the building with your first contact. No need to run around or navigate over the pedestal of the Atlas statue, dodging costume contests along the way.

And on Pinnacle at least, in Galaxy City there is a definate lack of chatter on the broadcast channel which is nice.

Things I never hear in Galaxy City: ( and don't you guys go over there and mess it up )

"Get your first badge! Free TP to the top of Atlas!" ( I guess people don't realize how much sweeter the accomplishment is when you can do it yourself! )

"Next Costume contest in 10 Minutes!" Yeah, thanks for the warning!

"10000 influence to the first person to find me" Here's an idea, nobody look and see how long he stays out there!

I only started my Warshade in Galaxy City because the Warshade contact, Shadowstar, is there while the Peacebringer contact is in Atlas Park. Otherwise all my other alts start in Atlas.
