I start in atlas for alts I role that require teams, controllers, defenders and tanks. Just because its easier.
Scrappers and blasters Galaxy by a mile, uninterupted hunting, and typically better teams when I do get one.
I used to always just start in GC but after joining enough pick-up groups that dragged me over to atlas, only to have to run back to GC for contacts I got a bit sick of it. Still my favorite of the two. -
While teaming: Be in front..until the battle starts
The contents of a mob are going to affect you more-so then any other AT <even squids!> Tab is your friend. Make darn sure you know whats coming up and prioritize your targets accordingly Know whos going to mezz or hold, whos going to make your day the worst.
Get a feel for the sizes of various AoEs, Kinetics often heal of targets near the tank for example, If you can get yourself in a sweet spot, the heal will hit you while you avoid the enemy aoes being thrown at the tank, also good for getting combat RAs / AMs without sacrificing your posistion The defenders Aoe heals and buffs are often bigger than youd think.
Solo: Always be aware of whos killing who.
Sometimes the safest course of action is to eliminate the threat Sometimes you will need to bail. Judging this is an art that old pros can screw up easily<I know I tend to error on the side of "eliminating the threat">.
Run to soon and your taking shoots in the back you didn't need to, nothing worse then dieing around a corner wondering if a disorient or a hold or damage wouldve saved you...running too late Is self explanitory. -
I remember when there was always 2 steel canyons..and seeing 3 posi TFs forming at the same time happened often enough
I remember when twighlight grasp to 80 years to cast
I remember when I learned how to edit sound files for my bubblers sanity!
I remember thinking the original chat window was overwhelming
and I remember hovering to the top of atlas..with no badge waiting for me -
what am i doing here??? i started of in technical issues, bounce to jerk-hacking off a link there and ended up having statesmen tell me to kill skuls! very dark times indeed.
i did read enough to think I should defend anime a bit though, watch anything from studio ghibli, and tell me its crap then.
<grave of fireflys, my neighbor totaro<sp?>, lupita-castle in the sky...the list goes on> or castle cagliostro for that matter.
DBZ is to anime what raw carp is to sushi -

Another addition to "Jousting" - If you can time it right, hit jump right as the animation starts going. Most (all?) attack powers require you to stop and execute the animation. However, if your airborn, you'll continue along your path. It works even better with ranged attacks, no matter how short the range is.
With Super Speed and Super Jump, I've been able to hit melee attacks, and land 100 yards away right as the animation finishes.

This is a great tactic! I use it to keep all the the baddies bouncing towards my melee teamates, instead of away from them, I just thought Id add that if timed right you can skip the animation for build-up, the trick is to get it to execute while your in mid air

(IMPORTANT) IF YOU NEVER WANT TO TEAM I THINK YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF PLAYING DOOM III.

I love this all or nothing attitude some people have towards solo vs. teaming.
After playing with a less than perfect group its nice to solo a bit to blow off steam, work off debt.Or how bout this, 5 of the seven days Im on I cant play for very long. I team on the weekends, doing TFs, hunting hazard zones, ect. On the weekdays I try to get a mission done before I log.
Why make playing with anything less than two hours to kill impossible?
The point is if you make soloing too difficult your not just alienating people youll never group with, your weakening any potential team you might join, because solo/teaming people like me wont be here any longer <and I rock at this game, you will definitly miss me>

There's more than one way to encourage grouping. I can only assume the changes made to enemy HP and powers were an attempt to get more blasters LFT. Why? I think Badges and the exempler system are a much better way to encourage grouping, and more should be done in that vein.Encouraging diffrent ATs to group shouldnt have to ruin soloing.
Oh yeah, Ive only just started playing a blaster after the update so my personal experiance is pre level 12 <if that discredits my opinion...meh>. But the frustrations I have are sucking the fun out of the game, putting me in a sour mood even when I switch over to my alts. The fix to mission difficulty will help, but if any battle is going to be some drawn out hit and run nightmare that feels anything but heroic something needs to be fixed <maybe a boost to single target damage across the AT>.
This is mostly coming from a solo perspective, but living a bit longer in teams might lower the amount of "wheres my healing/stupoid blaster" arguments that seem to pop up <usually around the end of the first posi TF mission>.
I just have to add...to all the posters reading this thread thinking it would be great to post a one line admition of their lack of wit, don't. Your only hurting the validity of good points brought up by the OP and others. -
