    As the second post shows, Castle is now placing psionics in the same category as Smashing and Lethal.

    Castle, if you read this, please tell me that this was not a mistake and you looked into the arguments and see that many of us were right and that psionics is a very highly resisted damage type in the game. Cause if this is the case, then psionic base damage should no longer be used as a reason for not boosting some of Psychic Blast’s powers to the level they should actually be in regards to balance.

    And this is the thought that should send every other AT to their knees shivering in fear. Defenders have not been changed, everyone else has been nerfed. Since these responses are basically stating they still will not change defenders, although there is plenty of evidence that defenders are underpowered in comparison to everyone else, it stands to reason that many more nerfs are coming.

    After all, since defenders are the bar that every other AT should be like, imagine how the others will react when their primaries start becoming inferior to other AT’s secondaries or forbid the pps.

    Please Devs, before you make everyone the same basic power level as defenders (verse controllers), just delete the Defender AT and allow the people to either choose to respec to controller or blaster. Add DM to controllers and DB, Psy and Rad blast to blasters. After all, we might have 15 sets to choose from, but only these four are unique to us.

    (Please note, I am only joking about deleting the Defender AT, however, I do honestly feel at this point, the game would probably benefit far more if it did not exist since the devs can not find a way to balance it without hurting another AT in the process.)

    Have to nitpick here - my /psy Defender gets put on pulling duty pretty often because of that range. However, it is pretty irritating that very quickly, a /psy snipe has shorter range than pretty much any enemy in the game.

    I can see where you are going with this, but that is only one attack in the entire set that the added distance makes a small difference. I can use the normal range in almost any snipe to do the same thing. Castle’s point as well as the other dev’s point all along has seemed to be that powers such as even mental blast and subdue are balanced because of the added range to them. This was what I was arguing against, a defender can not capitalize on the added range to their normal attacks in a way to justify everything wrong with the set and use it as an excuse of it being balanced.

    Besides, you are talking opening move, I am talking about a defender hanging back beyond the range of the team during the entirety of a battle rather than moving closer to use their buffs/debuffs/heals and bubbles when they might be needed.

    I do have one serious question based on the above quote.

    Let’s say all this is correct and the devs reasoning are flawless, if that is the case then why did they give defenders so many powers that are pure or mainly cc if they were never supposed to be that good at it to begin with. Why did they make four defender primaries (ff, Dark, Archery and Storm) resemble controllers if defenders were never supposed to blur that much to begin with in regards to very light cc and were bound to have many of the powers in their primary sets cut lower then even a controllers secondaries. At some point in time, it had to be intention on their part or they never would have made these classes the way they were to begin with and given them to defenders.

    And I am with the others, I have always saw slows as debuffs since they DEBUFF speed and recharge.

    That is in theory, however, in practice, it is not as cool and useful as it sounds. It is no where near where a regin scrapper is when the person is taking constant damage. With a regin, at least in the past pre the last set of nerfs, the person is back to full health in a matter of seconds regardless of fighting or not. With regin aura, the regin seems much slower and does not seem to kick in right away. By the time the regin would have time to really kick in and make a difference, the empathy would have healed him. You might be thinking of Adrenaline boost which can make any one person into a regin scrapper in regards to hp regin, however, that one can only ever be used on one teammate.

    Like I said, in the past, HA was enough to make an impact, even if it was still only a small one for a tank, now however, it makes almost no impact at all. HA is also definitely not really enough to use on a scrapper. An empathy would be wiser to not waste their time and end using it unless there are multiple people badly damaged and instead wait for HO to kick back in and use that instead if it is a scrapper. AP is cool and all and I have always taken it, but because it has such a long animation time and then it has a second animation to take hps away from empathy before the hp ever reach the scrapper, it is not a great emergency heal. I generally only ever use it if the other two are recharging. Relying on AP is basically hoping the person does not get hit in the next 4 to 5 seconds and if that is the case, waiting for HO usually suffices. It makes an awesome third heal if the other two are already used, but unless it is a tank in red or near red, I do not see much point in using AP to be honest.

    As for AB, you are right, it is an awesome power that can only ever be used on ONE person. On a team of 8 people, one person will love you for it and think you rock. You did forget one thing that to me makes AB rock the most, it also protects against slow. It is the only power in the class to do that.

    Might be, not sure though. I know it went through like 3 or 4 big buff changes to finally be considered balanced though so I am assuming if they did not want it perma, they would have changed that in one of the other three or four times they changed it.

    I am not sure if you are still here, but there is one issue you did not cover that I am the most curious about. That is if you are going to look at the individual powers ED hurt badly.

    EMPATHY

    Regin aura: This power was already considered situational and almost completely skippable. The recharge was way too long to make it worthwhile unless six-slotted with recharges and the HP regin was so low that it was a waste of time to pretty much use on almost anyone unless it is six-slotted with heals. At least in the past, we had the ability to choose to slot it one way or the other, but now with ED, it has become an even worse power.

    Recovery Aura: The downtime is almost twice as long as it is active even with hasten and the power 3 slotted with recharges. It was initially given such a long recharge because of the fear of six-slotting both that and hasten with recharge. Now that this can no longer be done, will the power be evaluated again.

    Heal Aura: Without the ability to six-slot or even five-slot it with heals, the heal numbers are so low that there is almost no noticeable difference between a defender and a controller using it. It also is too low to even serve a purpose using it on a scrapper or tank. Is there anyway that the devs could consider increasing the numbers some so it serves a purpose for anyone but a squishy. It may be AoE, however, it is also one of the only 3 powers an empathy can use solo. All of the others are just useless icons unless there is a teammate to cast them on (or pet if you are a controller) so it should not be too big of a balance problem since the class survives on the ground of balance mainly for the heals. Heal Other got hurt in the same way, but the numbers on this power is at least high enough to still have some effect on a scrapper/tank.

    Adrenaline Boost: This is a power that can only ever be used on ONE teammate at a time. With ED in the game now, it can not even be made perma on one person. Will you look at the recharge of the power and speed it up some so that we can at least use our 9th tier power as it was originally intended.

    FORCE FIELD

    Original comment by Statesman right after the global defense nerf was that ff was balanced because of the ability to SIX-slot defense buffs. He said it was the sixth slot that made all the difference. With ED, this means what originally made it balanced had to have disappeared. I mainly just want to know if Statesman meant what he said meaning it is now unbalanced or if he just said it and quoted numbers to pacify us.

    I also wanted to mention that ff is not the best defense in the game when you add in all the defense debuffs and –dam resists that rad and dark has. It is in the top three, but it is no longer the top dog in the game when it comes to defender defense. I do not want to see the others lowered, however, I still think the numbers should be run so that you can maybe give ff a small boost since they are no longer balanced as they were supposed to have been pre ED.

    1. When you play the game simply for fun, what is your favorite and least favorite AT to play and why? For example, I know some people hate playing melee while others hate ranged.

    2. What is your favorite and least favorite enemy group or AV in the game and why?

    3. Will there be more crossovers from the comics to the game itself. I always thought it would be neat to see some new AVs, enemy groups or zones spring up after first being introduced and learning about them from the actual comics. Or for a more larger idea, some major zone event or story line in the game to start showing up earlier in the actual comic in order to tie the two more together.

    This actually depends on level. Fly scales as you level up. In the beginning, there really is not enough of a difference between the speed of fly and even simply sprint to make it really count. After a few levels, it is finally noticeable, but then it too close to the speed of swift to really count. The plus is though with flight, you can get over walls faster than sprint and swift where you have to run around and find a way up. I guess if you take into consideration the fact that flight can take the more direct path, then even at level 14 when you first take it, it is faster than swift.

    I always pick Atlas because I have better luck finding enemies to fight at the right levels. I have found some great places to hunt that are usually empty of other players and I already know the right area to go for whatever level enemies I want to fight. I know I could do the same thing with Galaxy if I took the time, but to be honest, I like Atlas more anyway. Of course I do have an advantage, I only play my lowest level alts late at night when the servers are at their most empty. This means although it is still semi busy, it is not as crowded as daytime.

    Another reason that might play into it now is the Hallows entrance is there, but I doubt that one because by then, people are already traveling between Atlas, Galaxy and Kings anyway.

    Final reason could simply be the amount of people there. There tends to be more contests there and more people just hanging out socializing.

    Not for me, it is always my third or fourth contact and the mission to Hallows always comes from a contact in Kings. The guy right across from the train, but I can not remember his name. I am guessing this is because I usually take the Magic origin.
  12. I know this idea is not very likely due to the inside game work involved, but I would love to see it.

    Plot idea that leads to an actual small event in the actual game

    A story featuring the club where the heroes go to relax and discover it is empty. They knew it used to be one of the hottest places simply because it had mystical technology that linked it to many zones. They search for the reason and discover that it is the Council. The Council are trying to run it out of business in order to accomplish some nefarious plot that would lead to domination. In the end of the episode, the heroes go in and save the day naturally, but the warehouse has taken tremendous damage. Because of this, they rebuild it with the help of many communities and normal citizens and in rebuilding it, they make some great additions including a couple of stages for contests such as beauty contests, costume contests, dancing contests and even a large jukebox that can play different songs. (With the jukebox, it will play what the individual player chooses on his/her computer alone. If they do not choose anything, it will play a default tune.)

    The reasoning behind it
    1. Although I would love to see stories telling about the past heroes, I would also love to see stories talking about what is also currently going on in the game and giving hints to future events. It would link the comic directly to the exact current events going on in the game and let people feel like they are more part of the plot while playing.

    2. It would give everyone a place to go for contests other than by the level up areas in Atlas and Galaxy. Although I personally do not mind people gathering there and have been in a couple contests for fun, I know many people tend to get frustrated because of the amount of lag that gathers in those specific places and the amount of local and broadcast chatter.

    3. Although the club was a good idea, there really is nothing there to draw people in as opposed to them simply meeting under Atlas or near the level up area in Galaxy. This would give people a place to go where they can easily do the contests without getting into anyone else’s way.

    Additional ideas just in case the devs ever consider this

    1. Make a contest channel or some “call to heroes” channel that people can use simply to announce when they are doing things like and the time limit for when it begins so people are free to head there if they want. This way they can easily limit the club to its own broadcast area like indoor missions are without having problems gathering people who want to join. It would also allow people to turn the channel off it they are not interested in knowing about contests.

    2. Make a separate AFK room that would be exempt from being time lagged. Since the entire place would now be considered it’s own zone, there is no fear of people using it to pl. It would also give people a place to go if they need to walk away for a few minutes (to cook dinner, to send kids off to school…) and do not want to be autologged because they are a couple minutes late in returning.

    Btw, I added this here since it is a comic idea as well, but should I have made my idea its own thread? I think it would be a neat idea and great additions.

    The SJ and SS nerfs could have easily came just as much from PvE as PvP. The same way people use powers in PvP, they also use them in PvE. This might have just been the first time they realized there was a problem.

    Second reason is simply SJ and SS were loads better then fly and tp. Instead of fixing the two screwed up travel powers, they went the second route and brought them to down to the level of Fly and TP. Personally, I know SJ and SS was far better then fly was for a long time, but I was hoping they would just fix fly to bring it up to balance, not the other way around. There were plenty of things you could do to fly ranging from dropping the 50% acc debuff down so it can be used in combat like the others if you can not switch off it right away. Or they could have simply boosted the speed since it was truly a travel power and not a combat one with all the negatives in it attached. Boosting the speed and leaving everything else the same would have went a long way toward balancing it out and it is not like it would be overpowered, look at Khelds. The pp fly would still not even be as good as theirs which means still balanced. As for Tp, easy fix, simply lower the end cost some and problem solved. For an even better fix, add a 2 second hover to it in case of lag or to look for somewhere to land so they do not hit the ground.

    Using inspirations to test scrappers
    As for inspirations and scrapper testing, with a full set of nothing but lucks and enrages, I bet I can get a controller capable of soloing some pretty powerful bosses and AVS pre 32. Inspirations should never have been added into the testing since I have never seen anyone stack that many to fight any one person whether they are an AV or a minion. Going by this theory, it is the same as stating blasters need more damage because a blaster never slotting their attacks does not do as much damage as a defender 6-slotting theirs. It is also like stating blasters have plenty of defense, might even have too much. I mean after all, imagine a blaster popping a lot of lucks and a few enrages, they become pretty unstoppable too.

    Adding the inspirations into the testing makes me think they are just trying to replicate whatever results they want to make in the end whether it is be conscious or subconscious decisions. The tests should be done more evenly and straight forward.

    I never meant anything about any specific thread. It does not really matter what you make a post about, if it deals with flight, it almost always eventually turns to a flight verse the other power pools. Last time it was all about how it compared with SJ. I have yet to see it compared with tp throughout a whole thread, but have read teleport mentioned in many of the threads.

    Probably none, he was probably the first real Kheld and had their flight instead of ours. Since khelds were completely unknown about except in some very secretive circles, he hid his race so he would not have the government trying to do experiments to discover why he was the only person in Paragon that can both fly and attack with ease. Now that the truth that Khelds exists has came out, keep an eye out for the tabloids. I am sure some savy reporter is just biding his time to finally gain enough proof to break this huge story. “Statesman is not of this world!”

    Do not worry about it. This topic pops up on a weekly basis and always gets a lot of replies. For every person stating flight is fine, there is always at least one stating it is horrible. This is not the first time the topic has come up and will not be the last.

    If the devs ever had any attention of changing it because so many people complain, they would have done it a long time ago. To be honest, the devs have their opinion that the power is perfect so nothing is going to be changed with Flight or any of the others because they fear flight could be inferior.

    Besides, how many people complained that group flight sucked because of multiple reasons. First, people could out travel the others under the effect and cause them tumbling to the ground and sometimes to their deaths. They also yelled that the endurance cost was way too high. They yelled that since we did not get it till level 20 when everyone else has a travel power, it is pretty much useless unless you have pets. They yelled because there is almost always someone with recall friend on the team and that first tier power is far better, far cheaper, far faster and far safer to use then group fly if it comes to moving someone around. The also yelled that if fly was not slow enough to begin with, group fly is even slower. Finally, they yelled again about another power from the set with a huge acc penalty attached. All the devs did to rebalance the power even knowing all these things people hated about it was to change the initial cost of end used to be lowered but have each additional person bring the cost up. This pretty much meant no difference in bigger teams. Also meant no one who did not already have the power would take it because the power still would suck as much as it did before. If this was their idea about rebalancing group fly, there is no way they will ever do anything cool with flight to improve it or hurt another power because of the set.

    Your comment made me smile and was cute, but not really very accurate when adding the other travel powers into the mix. Super Jump and Teleport do not list anything about speed either and both far outpace flight. Swift states it is swift, but does not come close to SJ, teleport or higher level flyer speeds.

    I will gladly take that challenge with super jump or teleport and beat you by miles each time. One of the people I play with will also probably beat you with his ss in all the areas besides maybe Eden. Never been to Eden so I am not sure what it is actually like. A ss learns tricks to get up around most places fast and learns the territory of the areas they travel a lot just as a Super Jumper does. Just yesterday, my friend showed someone how to superjump to the top at the Atlas Globe even though him along with most people do not seem to know that is even possible. This was without hurdle or any jump enhancements in sj at all.

    I agree that flight seems to be very rare once you get to Talos. It is almost like a huge group of people must rush out and respec it immediately or they all quit playing those characters. Granted, I see more people with flight since issue three but that is only because the khelds.

    I do not think teleport is as rare as you try to make it sound though. I see people using it all the time in liberty. I think it is because just as hasten tends to be an automatic pick for many people, recall friend seems to be very desirous for a lot of others.

    CURIOUS QUESTION
    First, I want to state that this is not meant to start a huge fight and create nerf Kheld thread.

    I am curious if anyone knows how the khed’s flight stacks up to normal flight. I saw a level 2 take off once from Mrs. Liberty and I know it was definitely much faster then low level fly and think it might have been faster than even what my flight was like at level 30 before I finally respeced it. Later in Boom, I saw three khelds fighting and hitting everytime with their flight so I am guessing they do not get any negative acc or big endurance drain. Am I right about these observations?

    As I said though, this is not mean to be a nerf Kheld question because it is an epic AT so I guess it is fair if it does turn out to be vastly superior to normal flight. I will admit, I was extremely happy for the second time that I respeced flight when I saw how much better Kheld’s flight appeared to be even at level 2. It would just be somewhat embarrassing to have a 2nd level character out fly me if I was around level 30.
  18. I got so annoyed that at level 32 I was still being recalled to every mission site because I was too slow that I respeced out for Super Jump. Sure I get hit once or twice when I jump into a blind area, but it is fast enough I always escape before the second round starts. Needless to say, I have been killed trying to fly away from enemies in ff, but never killed anywhere with SJ. And as for my class since I survive these hits, I play an empathy defender, so low hps and absolutely no personal defense.

    Tried SS on test before deciding which to take and I can honestly state that ss is even better with defense. I can run up to +1 enemies and stand there for a few seconds before they even notice me. Trust me when I say, fly is far inferior in regards to providing safety over ss, all it offers is vertical movement. So what if you have to run through enemies, it is unlikely they will see you with ss and even if they do, you are gone before they ever get the first shot off.

    Face facts, most people do not take fly for any other reason then it is cool to have. I got over the novelty and respeced because when the cool factor is gone, there really is no other reason to keep it compared to the other 3.

    If they did something special with it like only allow people with fly to get wings, then there would be a genuine benefit to it beyond it is far safer in one whole zone out of how many. But, to be serious too many people would complain about this. They do not want fly cause it sucks, so instead they want wings with their much faster tp and sj and much safer and faster ss. This way they can have their wings that do not function, but look pretty.

    I would have even been happy if at least Air Superiority had been a ranged attack because at least the attack would have fit the flavor of the set. Fly and hover is all about staying away from the enemy, yet out attack requires going toe-to-toe to use.

    If it is a matter of simply investing powers, there are two great options you can easily take.

    1. Allow ss and fly to stack only as far as letting fly go to the ss level and no faster. This means a four slotted fly will only ever go as fast as a four slotted ss. This means taking two powers to get the same speed and it is not like it is cheating anyone, after all anyone can take the two sets. Most take the speed pool for hasten anyway and will continue to do it even if you made fly 10 times faster then ss.

    2. Ditch group flight which only people with pets ever take or people who have absolutely nothing else left they need or want. Exchange it with a slight flight boost. If you want make it another –acc that stacks and end draining meaning it will need end redux slots to even use. This means it will still not be usable in combat situations, but at least mean that at level 20, we no longer feel like snails. Finally since controllers are being looked at, fix the pets so they can more easily keep up with them without having to take a power pool power to do it. Either have them get automatically summoned to the controller whenever they get too far out of range a la Diablo style (ground beneath them if they can not fly) or let the pets use what ever travel power they are also using at the time without the positives. They can still keep the negative to acc with flight so it is not exploited, but they would not gain the major plus to stealth ss gets.
