So is that where the big complaint lies?

    [/ QUOTE ]yes

Actually that was exactly the answer I needed. This isn't the right thread to explain why in detail, so a simple "yes" was perfect!

Wow... some you people seriously just suck.
The game just added HUNDREDS of power sets. If you can't find any you like? Find a new game... seriously... leave.
    Gift Horse / Mouth anyone?

[/ QUOTE ] Hmmmmm... must just be a PVE player..... I PVP and if ask any Villains that PVP we got it in the shaft

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is that it then? I play villain side a decent amount and was very confused why so many villains were calling DOOOM! But I only rarely PvP. From a PvE perspective this all looks fine, I'm stoked to make some new villains actually.

But I'm woefully uneducated on what makes things good/bad for PvP. So is that where the big complaint lies?

It began with the first MMO, EQ.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Minor nitpick, I'm pretty sure Ultima Online was out a year or two before Everquest.

    Neat post, good thoughts.
  4. I can't speak from a MM/TA standpoint but I keep hearing about how gimpy TA/A defenders are and I just don't see it. I love my TA/A defender and solo him frequently. He is not the most powerful defender I've played, but he's far from unplayable and my low to zero debt scores tell me he's not too shabby. My biggest complaints have been end cost (being addressed soon) and rate of fire (which will now be addressed). I don't mind the lower damage when the animation speed is increased. And he does hit more often than my dark or electric defenders so the natural accuracy bonus is doing something right. I don't think I'm especially skilled at the game either.

Some people also don't like that there are both the entangling arrow and the ice arrow, I don't see a problem with it. I love my entangling arrow, it recharges fast and I use it all the time when I solo. I string my targets along thanks to it. Ice arrow is for the big guys, it recharges slower, I can't have multiple targets stuck down with it. I use each for different things.

I think Trick Arrows and Archery are underrated and I think the changes being made are exactly the kinds of things I've been hoping for.

If you don't pay rent for long enough then you will be locked out of the base.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the info Cuppa, and the really quick answer! As always, you rock.
  6. The med transporter will put you back where you fell instead of making you go back to the mission site from a hospital. That's really handy if you're in a hazard zone or deep in Orenbega. Is that worth the cost and effort? I don't know, but it is pretty cool

But you're right about things being weighted to the big super groups who can earn more prestige faster. Our team isn't huge but it's not tiny either and we're still working on our base. Still they are working on something for smaller groups and even solo heroes.

Until then, we're slogging along earning prestige. A few more payments and it'll be all ours! Except the rent
  7. I think the medical transporter, zone transporter and SG mission computers are good non-PvP reasons to have a base, RP aspects aside. Now if we can just afford the darn things

I wouldn't mind rent for bases not set up for raids. I just don't know if that's the way it is or if we ran into a bug. Also if that is the way it is, how far overdue will we go before we're locked out. I keep finding info on building bases but not much on rent. My forum search powers must need slotting up.
  8. I was under the impression that if you didn't ever pay base rent you would only loose access to things that would be useful in raids. Therefore if you never wanted to do raids you'd never need to pay rent.

Our base hasn't even been made fully functional yet but we get into it and use it for role play and to play with the editor, and we've let the rent go for a long time. Last night we couldn't get into it at all until someone finally paid.

Am I remembering wrong? Are you required to pay rent just to use the base even if you aren't using it for raids?

    Thanks!

I forget where but I read one of the devs state that the -acc on the travel powers screwed up PvP- which is why it was removed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Statesman's own post on the change specifically refered to the feel of play, not PvP. He was clear that the roll back was due to the impact on fun it was having. You should be able to find it by going to the official thread.

As to datamining vs opinion, player feedback is an indicator to an issue, datamining is done to confrirm or refute the problem and to identify specific mechanics involved. That they do fact checking to verify player concerns doesn't mean they are not acting as a result of those concerns. I can't imagine anyone in any professional field that wouldn't want to gather as much data as possible on an issue before trying to resolve it.

Can you show an example of where player feedback has changed the devs minds? I can't think of any. Datamining has changed their minds for sure ( and possbily datamining AND feedback). For me the tell is exactly what Cuppa said "The Devs are happy with the changes".

Apparently at Cryptic, the theory is the customer must have ordered the wrong thing- they KNOW what you want, regardless of what you want.

Tanker complaints about the Pool Power Provoke, for one. Scrapper complaints about not having a use in groups, for another. (Which got criticals added). Changes to Martial Arts animation times. Dark Armor and Stone Armor now stacking, as well as the new look to Stone Armor. There was an issue on the Test Server where the Dev's had added Knockback to one of the Tanker Powers (A super strength power, I believe) and the Tankers had quite a few negative things to say to it, which led to the new Knockdown/Knockback system being added instead.

Those are just off the top of my head.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's see, add the roll-back on the boss changes after I3 and making Unyielding Stance no longer root you in place. Oh, and while some people don't like suppression, even more didn't like the ACC debuff they put in with I4 so they changed it (Yes, this is still being debated but the fact is that more people disliked the -ACC so they changed it). I believe making the end drain done by Defenders more than that of Blasters was also a response to a need brought up by the community.

Also the TF exemplar that is in test now is the result of repeated calls for a "flashback" option to let people play missions they outleveled.

I nearly always start in Galaxy, so I've no clue. IMO, it's more convenient than AP. Tram, Hospital, trainer, arena ... all in more or less one central area. Plus Gemini Park.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, Gemini Park is a great low level hunting ground. I almost always start in Galaxy because it IS less crowded. I never get lag when I come to Back Alley Brawler or go in to hit my first contacts and sell my meager exhancements. Galaxy isn't dead by any means, but it is less crowded, and that's exactly what I like about it.

Oh and the convenience thing is definitely true.

This may have already been asked in this thread, but I must admit that I have no idea what trick arrows are, can anyone help?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't believe we have any specifics yet, but the usual comicbook theme is just like Batman's gadgets, only stuck on arrows.

I so hope we get a boxing glove arrow

  13. I'm bumping this, because it needs to be seen again. I can't say it any better. Wahoo for enjoying the game!

    [ QUOTE ]
I really could care less that defenders are shaing their powersets with blasters and controllers. That allows for more customization amongst AT"s, which I think is very good. Sure unique powersets would be nice, but I honestly don't see why people are getting bent out of shape over them.

And the whole balance issue: "This powerset is stronger than this powerset. Why would anyone use this powerset? It's the weakest of the bunch!" I've never played this game with the mindset of making the most "uber" build, or choose powersets because I thought it was the most powerful or "the flavor of the month." (Heck, my primary uses Psychic Blast.)

I choose my powers because it fits with my character and I have fun simply playing the game. With every issue or "nerf" that comes around, I honestly have never had any major gripes or problems with them. Quite the contrary, I actually enjoy the game even more with every issue that comes by. And it's been that way for me consistently for the past year. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I just wanted to let the devs know that there are those of us who genuinely enjoy what each issue has brought to the table.

May the Heavens smile upon you, fellow heroes! O;-)
