[ QUOTE ]

So what's your creative solution then? Most Blaster really do feel underpowered and the most likely to die. Refering to someone else's exagerated post doesn't make a very good arguement.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe the quote I was specifically thinking of is "Blasters should one-shot even-level bosses with aim + build up + snipe." At least, that's a paraphrase of the quote.

[ QUOTE ]
I'm putting you on the spot, but I don't mean to put you on the defensive. I really do want to know what you think.

[/ QUOTE ]

Reduce aggro generated by blaster attacks so it's harder to take it from tankers.

Give them a moderate damage boost so that there's no question they're dealing more damage than scrappers except against bosses (about 10% or so).

Revamp the secondaries to give them more tools to survive at range.

I would also add:

Cut way back on the villain mezzing. It's over the top and simply reinforces the defensive gap between melee and ranged characters.

Boost their damage some? Sure. Boost it enough so they can one- or two-shot anything up to bosses? Please, god, no. I'd never team with a blaster again.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just to counterpoint this: my best attack is my Zapp, with a 3 second activation time. You you know how may times this attack hit's nothing per day because the scapper/tank has taken down the whole mob before I can lock a clean target and fire the shot? Don't blasters deserve some of the fun, too?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not nearly as often as the blaster's taken out multiple targets right as I execute an attack on the now-corpse.

Second this. Every 3 minutes or so my bud wipes out an entire pack of mobs. On an avg mission he does this 4-5 times. Team with more than one blaster and im luki if I get to use my fists a bit.

I am OFFICIALLY making a complaint here.

If you agree with the Devs you can insult, belittle and slander as you want.

If you disagree you get editted.

How about editting some of these personal attacks on ME?

EULA and TOS.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um, they DID edit my post directed at you by removing the word [censored].

Which, you still are because you are still here and have obviously not quit as you said you were going to.

Prove to me you deleted your toons, cause, I don't think you really did.

Better yet, supply me with the names and servers, I'll go check for myself.

I play a scrapper and a couple of blasters, and I don't really see much of a damage issue.... but the aggro and defence issue is huge. Especially when you figure in large AoE attacks like Fireball. Everyone lives longer than my blaster in missions, even the other squishies. I feel like I need to ignore my secondary in favour of a bunch of pool powers that don't fit my character concept, just so I can have some marginal defense.

My regen scrapper doesn't fair nearly as well as previously (died three times last time I used him.... it's taking forever to grind through missions now), so the nerf was definitely effective, but I'm still complaining more about the state of my blasters.... that in and of itself should say something.....

Agreed. Blasters should some sort of defense boost. At the very least they should have scrapper health. Regen did not need to be nerfed at all. But obviously the devs feel the need to constantly nerf anyways. The late game with my regen scrapper has died. I refuse to play my Dark armor scrapper because the end useage is cripling. I have zero love for the devs..

I know this is an argument I'm not part of, but just as a note, I've cancelled my billing (current subscription ends June 1) and am able to continue posting - apparently until either the subscription runs out, or someone goes over the cancellation list and manually turns off posting ability - so it is entirely possible that the person you are addressing has, in fact, quit.

(As for why I'm still here - I intend to continue checking the forums on a semi-regular basis, and should something entice me back (straightforward dealing with perma-Hasten in some method other than penalizing non-Hasten builds with outrageous recharges on powers, for instance), I might return.)

I understand that he still has the ability to post until his currently paid monthly fees run out on his account.

My issue with Infernus_Hades (and if you care to see it, read through his post log) is his unparalelled and totally uncalled for amount of vitriol and hate directed at the development team.

Perhaps it's just me, but when I get to the point over someone or something where he's at, I walk away. That's it. No half measures, I'm simply done. Why waste the energy on hatred? It's pointless.

If he really has quit and deleted all of his toons but one (and I wonder why he would save one anyway), why is he still here spewing his misdirected angst and hate all over the boards?

Remember, not all blasters have (effective) AoE attacks. They can't be treated equally. My one Elec AoE one serves to get the attention of a crowd--it doesn't hurt them much at all.

That's the problem with comparing ATs--you can't simply compare A to B: Powersets make all the difference.

Yes, but those same blasters that can mop up crowds of minions with AoE suffer horribly at the hands of Bosses that tanks, scrappers, and even some controllers can handle.

That's my same problem the baddie is killed too fast and that means only time I could get a hit in is if i shot a a faraway mob that the tank or scrapper was running towards.

Well, let's take Ice... In general, with my scrappers, I simply can't keep up with ice's killing speed. It has fast animations and does a lot of damage to single targets. Frost Breath does a decent amount of damage as well. I've seen Ice drop a boss in the time it would take me to get that boss to half health...after criticals were added.

It's not just AoE, it's also that some blaster sets have fast-cycling, fast-animating attacks. Mind you, I don't think there's anything wrong with blaster damage in that regard, and wouldn't argue with a moderate increase (as I pointed out). The problem blasters seem to have more than damage is survivability.

Its not just blasters though. Its also controllers and defenders. Generally speaking. The lack of mez protection with ALOT of ranged damage in the late game hurts these ATs. However blasters are at the low end of this because of any ability to compensate other than attacking of fleeing
for thier lives. A controler can spam a hold, a defender can self heal and debuff. But any mez/knockback etc is detrimental.

The one thing I find shocking is that blasters have such low health, yet have melee attacks. And some with very long activation times. And Pbaoe attacks. Electric field? Blazing aura?

My main is a blaster and I've learned that Freedon Phalanx Reserve Member accolade rocks! Usually when in a higher lvl zone i get hit by something purple then I automatically say "I'm dead" while having auto-run on but I look at the health bar and think "why'd I say I'm dead? >.<"

I started to write up a big post on my opinions of what's been said in this thread...and just decided not to post it. So here's what I'll say instead:

Gotta love ya, Cuppa. Thanks so much for making a post letting us know we've been heard.

For exemple , after i got badly beaten by a very same MA/Regen scrapper than myself 4 times in a row in a 1 on 1 match , i started to ask myself where did i failed in my build . Why was I always getting defeated ? We were fighting using mostly the same powers but the enemy was regenerating faster than me , hitting harder and taking less damages than me . So , it was obvious that my problem here was my enh slotting .

[/ QUOTE ]
...Or if you are 45+ it's the HOs in the Arena problem.

[ QUOTE ]
Someone also wrote that if numbers and stats are your stuff that i may be playing the wrong game . Ill answer to that by just saying that there are lot of players who have been playing for months trying to maximize the potential of their toons and i feel there is a place for them in CoH ( especially for people who will be very involved into the competition in the Arena ) .

[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps the company will rethink its policy on numbers. Until then the dearth of them in the game manual and Statesman's repeated statements that he is disinclined to release all the numbers stand as a conscious design choice, not a careless omission that'll get fixed right away.

[ QUOTE ]
The comments the community has made have been read and were considered before Issue 4 went live. It was decided that the dev team felt the changes were needed and the issue went out with them.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, basically it became one of "We know best, don't bother trying to convince us otherwise."? The development team felt the changes were needed despite overwhelming comments (and evidence) to the contrary? Then why ask us questions? Why ask us to test things? We report on them, as asked, and you decide to do what you want to do anyway.

[ QUOTE ]

We have a responsibility to the individual player to make their game experience fun, but we also have a responsibility to the whole community to make their game experience fun too.

[/ QUOTE ]
So, for those of us who find these changes aren't fun? Your suggestion then would be...what? Wait (and continue paying) and see what happens or just quit the game and find something else? Massive changes to characters that you've played into the early 40's isn't "fun" Cuppa.

[ QUOTE ]

Hurtful insults and disrespectful comments affect us. We are human. To have people disrespect you and insult you and something you have worked so hard on in front of the whole internet is disheartening and demoralizing at the very least.

[/ QUOTE ]
Funny. That's the same way I've been feeling since issue 4 came out. I've worked hard to make my character something I could be proud of and something my teammates could look up to. These changes make him neither of those things. To me that's exactly the same as a slap in the face and is just as disheartening and demoralizing. I won't make any bad comments about the devs. I try never to make bad comments about anyone. I would, however, like to point out that the people on the other side of the keyboards have feelings, too, and that we have worked just as hard to make our characters something we can be proud of. To have our work disregarded....well, you said it best, "We are human. To have people disrespect you and insult you and something you have worked so hard on in front of the whole internet is disheartening and demoralizing at the very least."

For those who think I'm trashing the devs please note it is not so. I am simply pointing out that their changes also affect us. City of Heroes is not just a game to some of us. We enjoy what we're doing and these constant changes, for sake of a balance that will never be found, dishearten and demoralizes us, too.

I've been reading about "releaseing the numbers" in this post and wanted to make a commnet. I for one would LOVE to get my hands on all the numbers in the game. I can also understand why they are not available. Would it be possible however to include a "warning" that you have reached the cap with enhancements? On the management screen there could be a warning like the "are you sure you want to put this enhancement there?" message that displays currently. When the enhancement would (by itself) not have any effect on the power it would warn you. Just a suggestion. It would keep the numbers "secret" although would at least give you some idea that you have reached your potential in that area of the particular power. I apologize if this has been addressed already, I just thought it would be a great compromise.

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me start with this. First off let me say this is really unavoidable given the fact that we have this public forum on which to post. Some people simply have no tact or are looking to hurt someone. Now, if any of my comments have made any of the devs feel that way I apologize (though I can't think of anything quite that visceral that I said).

[ QUOTE ]
This is NOT the case. This was just a small set of data from a much larger range of tests. Statesman just wanted to post a small example of the results.

[/ QUOTE ]

Now this I find quite hard to believe. If there had been many seperate tests and datamining going on for a period of time prior to the changes how could you not notice when an internal test pops up showing scrappers three shotting +8's. I think a lot of the community's fears come up because of things like this. Things like Positron's alpha striking comment, things like Geko trying to explain how Blizzard is so powerful, things like Statesman saying scrappers couldn't hit the resist caps, things like saying we can 3 shot +8's. It clearly shows that the people in charge of making this game better don't have even the basic concepts of this game under their belt. Sorry but you don't.

If there had been the level of testing that you suggest performed before planning changes to Regen you should have already had a good understanding of what the set was capable of and the fact that +8's popped up you should have sat back and said "Whoa! Something is up here." The fact that you didn't shows that the changes were planned and proposed without any understanding of how the set actually works.

I think the entire dev team needs to from this day forth make a pledge to themselves to really get a handle on this game and the way it is played if you are going to start making such wide reaching changes at this point.

[ QUOTE ]
Official Threads are not places we herd you to to ignore you

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, it sure feels that way. OVer 5000 posts in the Regen thread (counting the mass deletions) and not a single concern was addressed or discussed. Not a single issue or alternative was ever considered. Such as the fact that IH is now operating at less than 50% of its original power yet we are still paying the full end costs. Despite all the data and reports provided not a single thing way addressed about the Regen changes except we got MoG nerfed as well. I think we can safely assume that the Regen thread was never meant as a discussion thread, but as a "Here's the way it is..." thread.

[ QUOTE ]
The bottom line is we respect you and your comments, we do listen, and we are glad you play and thank you for being heroes. We ask for your respect in return.

[/ QUOTE ]

All I can say is, actions speak louder than words. Quit looking at us as Conspiracy Theorists and trying to tell us when we are and when we aren't actually having fun. Listen to us, learn from us, and do what you can to make the game better. This is a great game, but I feel the game is headed in a direction that is not only going to remove anything superheroic from it, but also sap all the fun out of it as well.

[ QUOTE ]
No recent response to an issue -

Many times, if you do not see a response from the dev team about an issue then either investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been made yet or the dev team is satisfied with the issue as it is. I want to stress that even though this may be the case, they are always reading your feedback and taking it into consideration.

[/ QUOTE ]

If several subscribers post with a specific concern about implemented changes, the developers need to reply and tell them that:

a. It's going to change
b. It's not going to change, ever
c. There is the potential for change

That way, the player knows immediately where they stand. If you change a power that I have been using in a specific manner for the duration of my gameplay and I find that change detrimental, then I and any other players who consider it detrimental need to know up front that there is no chance it will be changed.

No reply at all makes it appear as though the devs simply do not care, regardless of whether they do or not.

[ QUOTE ]
This also extends to Issue content - we try to add a little something for everyone each issue. Every player has things they consider their priority for new content. Some love costumes, some like new art, some new story. We try to even it out to give everyone something. There is only so much time in the day - but we work as hard as we can to make the game better.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry to say, but Issue 4 appears to have introduced many more bugs and detrimental changes to game mechanics than it has content. It's the first issue I've actually been disappointed in. Even though the Arenas were a huge undertaking, I wouldn't consider them content.

The Kheldian storylines are nice, but right now the content is limited to those who already have level 50 characters.

So, when combined with what I personally consider detrimental power changes, a lack of real content and some game bugs, Issue 4 has just really been a disappointment.

Meanwhile, we still can't buy inspirations during a TF from the TF contact.

[ QUOTE ]
I have seen comments that state that if the devs are going to be devs then they should grow a think skin and learn to take the insults. We disagree. We care an awful lot about this game. We pour our hearts, minds, and energy into making this game. Many of us have spent years of our lives working as hard as we can and trying our best to make the best game possible. We want players to have fun. We stealth team with lowbies to hear the reactions to things like super jump for the first time. To experience the joy of a great pick up team take down an AV.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am certain that the developers care about this game. Which is why it is so confusing that in the last two months it appears as though the developers have embarked on an effort to tear down the game they created and replace it with something that is less dynamic, less exciting, less fun and just generally less superheroic.

Honestly, the more changes I read about... for example, the latest proposed enhancement changes... the more I begin to think that the developers have lost their compass on the design and intent of this game.

CoH is coming to resemble less and less the game I loved and unfortunately I'm hearing that from more and more of my SG mates.

[ QUOTE ]
Hurtful insults and disrespectful comments affect us. We are human. To have people disrespect you and insult you and something you have worked so hard on in front of the whole internet is disheartening and demoralizing at the very least.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is completely understandable. Everyone likes to hear that their efforts are appreciated and admired.

That said, you have to consider that your subscribers have feelings as well... and you're going to hear their frustration and anger just as often as you hear their praise.

Add in the fact that this isn't a purely altruistic venture, i.e., you are being paid to develop the game by your subscribers, and the sympathy factor goes down just a little bit more during those times that cause your players stress.

I'm not at all happy with the direction City of Heroes is taking; I see a game development that is moving toward slowing the game down from its frantic, fun, edge of your seat gameplay where you could accomplish things every time you logged on to a slow-paced grind where it takes hours and hours to accomplish anything of substance.

I left other games that revolved around those concepts behind to come to CoH.

I'm right there with rightious fury...

This is a game. Quite frankly since the new round of nerfs have gone out, I've noticed that gameplay has slowed down considerably. I'll give you an example, my blaster (who I am still angry is by FAR the weakest set in the game) became even WEAKER when the new round of nerfs came out. I used SS as a tool of invisibility while fighting goups, but the new round of accuracy nerfs ruins that. I have seen it in my other sets as well. I have one of every AT in the game. Quite frankly the game is just becoming frustrating and annoying.

If you Devs want to keep nerfing sets and making the gameplay slower than it already is, then thats your buisness. Quite frankly I will have no reservations about moving on to greener pastures.

This is a game. Sometimes I wonder if you forget that, after all it is your job. People don't and won't want to play something that is frustrating and annoying, and quite frankly thats the path that the game is headed.

It boils down to a Dev. teams vision of the game including, concepts yet to be revealed and whether or not that translates into a fun experience for account holders,
not complaining,
but it seems i3 and i4 are very mixed in that regard.

Ok cuppa,

Let me try this again. Try to understand that I am speaking out of frustration because I was looking forward to the arena so much. After testing it out, however, I lost interest very quickly. I tested SEVERAL DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS of blasters on the test server before i4 came out.

I started out in the arena using my lvl 50 nrg/dev blaster. To my way of thinking the blaster should be on equal playing field with a scrapper. A blaster should do more damage than a scrapper, but the scrapper has defenses to compensate for it. To my shock and amazement, to fight any form of scrapper was a waste of time. I was not an equal, but a mere punching bag for just about any form of scrapper I fought. I fought several different scrappers, most of whom just laughed at me as i put up what i called an attack front. In One such instance, I fough, 1v1, a regen scrapper, (and for God sakes don't take this as the regens, or ANY scrapper needs to be nerfed, because taht is not what I am saying, nerfs are quite frankly annoying) he literally stood there as I blasted away, not even making a dent. I had my attacks all 6 slotted with damage. To my shock and amazement, the epic pools that a scrapper can choose from comes with terror. My blaster also had acrobatics, which i'm sorry to say did nothing against terror. Therefore, I spent most of the match getting beaten to a pulp, and the only shots i did get in where when he went for a cup of coffee or something (which still made no dent). This is but ONE instance of my arena battles. I have tried every power pool available, I have tried just about every epic set available. Nothing works. Hence my frustration. Then I come to find out that blasters actually do LESS damage than a scrapper. I abandon PVP altogether with that information. I could do more constructive things like water the median strip on the highway. The new round of nerfs, as I see it, have disabled blasters EVEN MORE. SS was the only tool I had that gave ma a reasonable chance of running away and hopefully using the range, but with the slow animation times, any melee attacker can close the gap by the time that a single shot is fired, not to mention that now my attacks miss when i fire.

I know you say you listen to these posts, but quite frankly I'm sure I am to be drowned out by the rest of the posts on here. Just another whisper of a problem in the game that no one will pay attention to. Also hence my frustration. I love this game. I really do. I have one of every AT that I am working on. The best of which seems to be the tanks. The REASON the tanks are so good is because it doesn't take 4 months to lvl up like it did with my blaster. That alone should tell you something. People want to feel a sense of accomplishment. Spending countless hours to earn a single bar of xp kind of defeats that purpose. I have a lvl 34 fire tank, which I am happy to say is a great set. The recent round of nerfs have soured me on that set because I now spend all my time chasing down villains because of the newly found fear on burn. Having a group standing around, put up burn, and watch them scatter like cockroaches when a light comes on is kind of disheartening. It seems to me that I4 has slowed the game considerably, ie can't use ss/sj while fighting... and such other nerfs.... I know you Devs would like to make a game that is fun to play, but I can't say that the new issue has accomplished that. Quite frankly I have been soured to the game because of it.

These are my qualms, these are my frustrations, take them or leave them. All I can say is that I would like to see these issues fixed. ESPECIALLY with the weaknesses in blasters, the fire tank nerf I guess I can learn to live with, altho it does make things a bit slower.

And slower is DEFINATLY not a good thing in this case.
