I have no reference per see, but there is a separate team for CoV there was some buzz when they where hired. But at the same time Jack (Statesman) is still in charge of both games. It makes perfect sense really, there are two games in continued development, and it is not like they arent making money of this.
I suspect you will be pleasantly surprised by both the games continued development and the development of CoH + CoV after CoV is released. I can't prove this but I have only been happy with the development team and see no reason for them to burn everyone.
There will be an anime boom (ug) when I4 goes live, but it will die down. I doubt in over one hundred new options (read that somewhere...) there will be nothing you don't like.

Uh okay. So this update is basically all anime then.

I have to admit being unable to following your logic.
The statements regarding the new clothes options so far are:
there's going to be hundreds of new options from styles all around the world.
there's going to be a sizeable selection of anime inspired clothes to chose from
there is not going to be any trenchcoats in this update.
I fail to see how statement number three translates into: there's only going to be anime costumes.
Nobody even said there is going to be anime costumes. It is likely but so far we only know for sure that some of the new options are going to be inspired by anime. And we still have to wait before we can find out which anime.
Is it going to be Sailor Moon? Vampire Hunter D? Gundam? Any of the thousands of other anime titles?
Also, how do you come to the conclusion that everybody not in Japan wears trenchcoats? Because that is what you are effectively saying when you make that rather impressive jump to your conclusion.
Personally? I would like to see skirts, but do not expect them because that would require extensive modeling with all the fight animations that would have to be redone.
I also would like to see more street clothes, and a better selection of comfortable women's shoes. And perhaps a sit pose that I can use without flashing the room.
However, I will wait to see what actually is in the next update and realise that anything that is added is a gift from the developers, not something I am somehow entitled to because I would like to see it. Other games charge for the privelege of new 'races', new customisation and new zones and stories to explore. Here you get them for free because the developers are just that nice. Not having some options we would like to see in no way diminishes our playing this game. Perhaps it is time we all stop acting as if it does.

[/ QUOTE ]
No. I'm not saying its going to diminish my playing of the game.
What I'm saying is it won't increase it either.
Its entirely possible these "hundreds of new options" theres something other than anime inspired new outfits in it.
But they haven't said that. "hottest new styles from around the world" is purposefully ambiguous and I believe its a damage control statement to counter the "anime inspired" statement from the PCG article.
Hottest new styles from around the world could mean alot of things. But I don't believe for a minute that means Prada is going to be making a visit to Icon.
Now trenchcoats aren't strictly western in nature. Arucard in Hellsing wears one...thats quite obviously anime. But regardless, trenchcoats are seen as a western item worn by western heros, Punisher, Neo....Dick Tracy (Wow, I'm old).
So...my logic isn't hard to follow if you look at the availible evidence.
We've seen an eastern style costume. We've had a statement that confirms "anime inspired" costumes. And we've had a statement that confirms that one well requested item that is arguably western, is not being added.
Given the availible evidence of what we've seen, that means everything is anime inspired. Because what we've seen leans more towards that than the possibilities of non-anime inspired costumes.
Its simply speculation, its all I can do because Cryptic isn't the dev houses name by accident.

Honestly, I was expecting that was something everybody knew.
[/ QUOTE ]
I knew that in the case of SOE's expansions because they had whole dev teams assigned to expansions.
Cryptic just doesn't have those numbers. And as a hobbiest developer myself, all I can say is that I think, given my estimation of the size Cryptics developer pool...that they'd almost have to buckle down and focus singularly on CoV to ensure it meets its projected release of Fall 2006.
If they've got a bunch of new people that I'm unaware of, then its possible they've got a whole sub division of their company working on CoV...but still as the speculated release date comes closer and closer they'll have to focus more and more of their people on it to make sure they meet the date.
To me, that makes it look like I4 could potentially be the last free content update til post CoV, I could be wrong of course, but thats what it looks like when I think it over.
[/ QUOTE ]
From what I heard, they hired a whole new lot of people to help carry the load of CoV. I know Lord_Recluse in the CoV forums is the lead designer right now so that Jack can concentrate on CoH (while still giving hand with CoV of course).
They should have things well balanced, at least I would hope so.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not complaining. I'm speculating.
This is a hot issue for me because its one of the top 5 things I've wanted to see in the game since release. So of course I'm going to ruminate about it.
I'm going to analyze it and look at what is presented and wonder what is going to come of it.
Not because I just "have to complain" but because it is important to me.
New costumes would make the game better for me. But if they're largely things I won't use...its like the armored options or the suit coat or baggy shirts we already have. Meaningless curiosities that I won't use because they don't fit my personal style.
Like I said, I'm not complaining. I'm not saying "no anime plz" I'm just concerned that after a year of desperately hoping for costume upgrades that I'm going to end up dissapointed.
And anyways people are throwing the "hundreds of new options" around as if it means something....it really doesn't. Because each costume set right now is arguably at least 7 different options by itself. So "hundreds of new options" could invariably mean 14 new outfits...all of them "anime inspired".
No, there's still a gap in your logic, because you're trying to write an essay on 2 statements. How you read those statements is subjective, therefore you cannot base a conclusion on them. If you do, then that conclusion is subjective, and therefore has no bearing on the matter at hand.
So, what were we talking about again?

Actually /em kneel is marginally better, but both are still making me sit down like a guy would, and are still making me flash the room.
Devs, if you are by any chance reading this ... when girls sit down there is no risk of anything getting wedged in, so in general we tend to sit down with our legs closed. Especially so if we're wearing a skirt shorter than knee length... I am sure this is an extremely minor change that could be made to the one or two sit poses.

If they suddenly stop doing it, they've broken their promise to their customers.
Free content updates were part of the games sales pitch since before the game was even released.
Yes EQ charges for expansions. Part of CoH's appeal to the MMO customer base is that Cryptic would do the same thing for free.
You started off saying that there's all these people with anime-inspired avatars telling us to have faith in the new options.
In a later post, you say that Cryptic is doing this in an effort to attract anime fans that the game doesn't currently have, and that the options aren't "for us."
Aren't you making two seperate arguments that are mutually exclusive?

Not really, but I can see how you could creatively come to that conclusion for the purpose of argument.
I've said several times in this post that there is a section of the current community that would benefit from an all anime costume update. I'm just saying that that style translates more largely to the asian market and would make CoH, overall, more acceptable in them.
Yes there are people currently playing that will heavily enjoy the anime style. I have not, at any point, denied that. All I'm saying is that theres also people that currently play that have no interest in it and it leaves them with nothing gained.
