  1. Despite the Hellions/Outcasts snafu...still sounds like an awesome premise with the potential to not only play with the game's idea of death...but also poke fun at death in comics overall.

Well there is Wizard World in Chcago first weekend in August this year. Pretty good con, and I met States there last year. So the Midwest is not a total wash for conventions.

True. But if you live west of the Mississippi, east of the Rockies, and north of Texas, you might as well forget about the big comic-cons. Which makes little-to-no sense to me, considering people in the Midwest would have nothing better to do.

Boy, I tell ya. I read the first post, expect to see a few "why can't it be my town" comments, and then not even four posts down there's some lunatic raving about how the devs making con appearances somehow detracts from the game. Eesh. Like the people involved aren't spending enough time developing CoH already.

Anyway, wish I could make it. Haven't been to San Fran in awhile, and I miss Northern California in general. That and, as someone already mentioned, the Midwest is a pretty bad place to look for big comic conventions.

I don't purposefully present myself confrontationally.

People disagree with me and somehow take it personally when I debate their viewpoints with my own.

Anyways I could go through this thread and point out all the times that I've said "I don't think its bad that we're getting anime costumes...." and "this is only my opinion" and "well this is what I think." and "I'm not saying you're wrong." and "its possible that I could be wrong."

So exactly how subserviant to I have to be to not be confrontational? Because thats apparently what you want. You want me to not argue my point of view at all. You want me to not say anything if someone posts with an opposing viewpoint apparently.

Because thats apparently all I could do to not be seen as confrontational. Because I've already gone out of my way to try to NOT be confrontational and to ensure people know that I'm just expressing my thoughts and views.

So, I don't think the problem is so much what I'm saying or how I say it...but in how you choose to hear it. And on a forum thats simply rife with trolls, I can see why you'd be so defensive to start...and given the fact that my name alone seems to rate a one star rating for everything I post, I can see why you'd come in with the predisposed notion that I'm being confrontational.

Ah well, damned if you do, damned if you don't as they say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Rrrrrright. Ignoring the "Help! I'm being oppressed!" tone you so often like to take, I came in with no preconceived notions of you. But I can read, and most of what you've posted in the short time I've been here has been either negative, closed-minded, or over-the-top defensive. In another thread where someone wrote a lengthy post wondering why so many people were complaining about Issue 4, you went so far as to call the person a fascist, claiming that they were trying to take away your right to state your opinion. Then you turn around and post what is essentially the same message here, except reversed to your point of view. Follow that up with a bunch of blanket statements like "most of us are going to be disappointed" and wild speculation about the update schedule that you present as facts until someone calls you on them. Then you throw in the "I thinks" and "my opinions," which only seem to be a method of strategic retreat in your lexicon.

Furthermore, you continually say that you've been waiting a long time for new costume choices but never make it so far as actually saying what would interest you. We're on Page 8 now, and you've made a tentative step in that direction, but so far all you've done is tell us how unfair it is that this one section of fans gets what they want, but you and this "the rest of us" will be incredibly disappointed...disregarding the fact that most of the rest of us keep trying to tell you that we will feel otherwise.

But this is defensible in your mind because we're just "perceiving" you wrong...everyone who's disagreed with you or called you a troll or dared insinuate that you have no right to expression. A wide variety of people from an equally varied set of experiences and values have all somehow gotten the same wrong idea about you. That's a one-in-a-million shot, ain't it?

And honestly? None of us have any right to post here, whatever it may be. Cryptic could say "To heck with forums!" tomorrow and yank the whole thing down. Statesman could come in here, point out any one of us and say, "Ban him/her." It wouldn't be nice, and we would certainly cancel our account in anger over the whole thing, but Cryptic owns the place, so if they wanted nothing but the letter "E" posted here, then that's what would happen. Expression at a privately-owned forum is a privilege, not a right. I too believe very heavily in freedom of expression, but there is absolutely nothing anyone here can do to you to take that away from you. Nothing. Even a banned person can go and start another website to scream their opinion from the mountaintop for all to hear.

In the meantime, you can post whatever you want, and none of us can stop you, although I'd assume some of us would like to try. But expect to continue being ignored, called a troll, and categorically dismissed because you generally refuse to contribute anything constructive or positive even though it seems like you are in a position to do so. More flies with honey than vinegar...and I can't imagine you want people to not listen to you or take you seriously.

Anyway. I will be enjoying all aspects of I4 to some degree, as I have the entirety of the game up to this point.
  5. The development team for the Sims is very good with its fans, and hosts regular chats as well.

Nice of you to finally clarify that.

    Is this barb really necessary?

Yeah, because I think that a lot of your "opinions" are not phrased as such. You seem to be a fairly intelligent person, so you're more than capable of expressing yourself in a less confrontational and off-putting manner.

Regardless, I'm sure some more effort will be put into CoV...closer to its launch...which won't be for quite awhile, since it hasn't even gone to beta yet, as far as I'm aware. So there might be a larger gap than normal between updates...but it's doubtful it will be the virtual abyss you were suggesting.

This is of course, a good statement. But I think when we come to something as intensely personal as new costumes you have to look at it.

So the Canadians got a Maple Leaf...thats great. I've got no real problem with that because I've got a ton of chest emblems and I almost never use one anyways.

Entire costume upgrades have been what people have more or less asked for, hoping to see them in nearly every update so far. They've been put off as low priority since release.

Costumes are our characters. The ability to be new and different all the time is what makes the game so good in the first place. The problem is the current options are largely worn out. New ones at this point in the game would be highly welcomed by everyone I'd think.

Kheldians don't matter much to me because I never get to 50 anyways, maple leafs aren't that big a deal because its just one item.

A whole update of anime stuff though is different. Its hard to ignore the fact that one of the biggest things you wanted is coming in a fashion in of which you won't use it.

At least to me it is. I don't speak for everyone, of course.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nice of you to finally clarify that.

I'm no fan of anime myself. I probably won't use them, either. But I will flip through them, and who knows? Maybe I'll like some elements. Maybe they won't be as anime-ish as we've been led to believe. I'm certainly not going to fault Cryptic for giving something to a part of the fanbase that is clearly in CoH, even if it's not my personal cup of tea.

Besides, there are a lot of new features that will come in this release, including the body scaling, which also gives us more options when it comes to our hero's design.

There's going something for everyone in Issue 4. And I very seriously doubt that we'll be waiting until this time next year for our next update.
  8. You started off saying that there's all these people with anime-inspired avatars telling us to have faith in the new options.

In a later post, you say that Cryptic is doing this in an effort to attract anime fans that the game doesn't currently have, and that the options aren't "for us."

Aren't you making two seperate arguments that are mutually exclusive?
