Skills In Issue 4 = More Batman Elements?
if you really want an RPG i would reccomend the upcoming Frankenstein: Breadlust game.
Zeus - god of refrences
The SSOCS (as its known) will provide an out of combat system that is in theme with the comic book heroes. So thats things like solving puzzles, piecing together clues and maybe constructing things which aid your hero from items you have gathered.
So yes, they'll provide a more cerebral element however don't expect it to dtrain the braincells too much until its had more time to develop.
Hopefully the SSOCS will provide what is wanted but I'll reserve judgement till actually seeing it. The game could do with more thinking then "hit them till they die from it". At times on difficult missions thinking is needed but more would be nice.
that is why you have contacts. they have the issues. they found out who. or need to know something and know how to find it out. they send you.
Well I for one and sick of being lead around by the hand all the time by contacts. It makes heroes nothing more than hired muscle.

Yeah, I tend to agree.
There should be some room for the Oracle or Professor X style of hero.
(NB. Yes, I know we certainly can't do away with the contacts/muscle stuff - both for logistical reasons, and because that's what most people want. I just hope that the skills provide a reasonable alternative for those who want it.)

Arenas better be good!!!! *shakes fist!*
Aaah!
Delayed again.
Pity. I hope there is something else of note other than Arenas for those of us who have no interest in PvP. (hopeful look)
Well, a lot of my interest in Issue 4 just died.
I hope that arenas aren't all Issue 4 has to offer.

You better hope Skils is worth 2 update delays. PvP doesn't make an update. If there isn't as much stuff to do for 50s besides PvP, I'll be disappointed in Update 4. It had potential to be really awesome with PvP, skills because its things I can do on my lvl50 character.
I'm not trying to make myself sound like I'm really peeved but I am just a smidge. If there isn't more end game content soon, whats the point of bring back my lvl50 except for Hamidon and maybe a TF or 2.
This space is intentionally left blank.

Fudge. I suppose it's better we find out now then work it out once Issue 4 goes to the Test Server.
It's still rather dissapointing though,

What a freaking joke.
It's not too late. Scrap the idiotic arenas and put in some actual content for superheroes.
I'm sure there will be more than *just* Arenas in Issue 4. Maybe some new ATs, new artwork, whatever. Look back at issues 1, 2, and 3... have they let us down yet? The new issues are what keeps us playing, really.
If skills are getting pushed back again they better be really really fun.

None of the previous issues have offered one big new feature, why would we think that would be the case with I4?
Chris
I can see why the arenas will be the next update... CoV is coming up, what would be a better way of gathering some data to see how PvP works live then to put in the arenas and be able to see what works there and use what's learned there to go toward CoV. Personally I'm interested in seeing how the arenas play, cause there have been a couple of heroes I've met that I'd like to stomp...
Well...that'd be cool if either:
1. Issue 4 only had the arena, BUT it came sooner, like a month from now.
OR
2. Issue 4 will have arenas but it will have other content like the other updates (zones, new mission types/art) but it came about 2 or 3 months from now.
That'd be cool...

Are there at least going to be any new Trials, TFs, or power sets in Issue 4?
Dissappointing. I don't really care about the arenas. I was looking forward to the skills system though.

Let me correct myself then. I hope that Arenas aren't the only thing in Issue 4 that matters.

They had better make my head explode with fun!
*sigh* Evidently "sooner than you think" is a lot later than I thought.
*surprised to see a Statesman's post*

*entire body slumps*
I guess the skills are getting seriously overhauled to be pushed back yet again. I'm sure the Arenas will be interesting, as will whatever new zone goes in (something for the 30-range, I'm hoping). Maybe new powersets, such as Sonics and Archery?
Maybe the skills system was just one of those things that we where better off not knowing about until it was ready to be put into the next Issue. Right now, it sounds like a "super-cool" concept for the game, and other things seem more like "meh", when compared to it....
Dungeoncleaners! (ID#125715): Slay the Adventurers! Rescue the Monsters! Return the Treasure!
Peppermint Cat-- Lv50 Mewtant Ice/Eng Bls
(Sorry if this has been covered before, but a quick search didn't turn up any details about the upcoming skill system.)
Whilst bashing/blasting/hacking/frying/etc. bad guys is all well and good, I'm sure I can't be the only one who's looking for some more cerebral elements in the game. At the moment Hamidon raids provide the only real 'Batman element', in which cunning and tactical thinking are really required.
I fully appreciate that a video game, especially an MMORPG, can't be expected to provide the same breadth of gameplay as a pen and paper RPG. But I'm hoping that some mental challenges might be introduced.
So, is the skill system supposed to provide this kind of thing? Can you be a detective, and actually solve crimes via your 'little grey cells'? Or perhaps an academic, and tackle intellectual problems for the betterment of the human race (well, my main's a professor of Classics, so I guess 'betterment of the human race' might be stretching it...)?
Obviously this kind of thing wont appeal to everyone, but for me it would help flesh out the RPG aspect of the game.
