Door Mission Location - Stupid Placement

Yeah okay I am super pissed off right now.

Level 6 Scrapper - get my mission "End Gang War" - timed - in the Hollows. Fine. So I run there only to find its a mile out on the far side of the gulch in the "red" area (where all the 12+ mobs are).

ummmm.... WISKEY TANGO FOXTROT????

Why does this keep happening? Is the random door code so poorly done that doesn't take the players level into consideration? Why the hell is a door mission from a KR contact in the Hollows anyways???? OH SORRY RUNNING ACROSS ZONE AFTER ZONE AND THEN DIEING AND HAVING TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IS GAMEPLAY WOOOO!!!!

Seriously the Devs do such a good job with somethings then I have to put up with crap like this.

So I petition - simply stating my situation and the impossibility of doing the mission - and I quickly get a reply. A totally usless reply. Stating that they cannot reset or change a mission - which is odd because I've had it done before - in fact I have had a mission door move while I was LOGGED OFF - so thanks for that.

I am also given advice to "get a team to help you get there". Well gee I thought of that all by myself - but you know what a team of level 6's is going to do out there? Just the same as I did -DIE. So what I should have done is invite some players to come get some debt in a futile attempt to reach a door mission. Yeah thats a good one. Maybe I should have stood around for 45 minutes begging higher level players for a TP or an escort - yeah cause that is fun too. For all involved. Right.

Also the sage advice was to "take a path to avoid the mobs". Really? No kidding? Well since mobs in the Hollows are so packed its nearly impossible - and even when you can you get what happens to me EVERYTIME I go into the Hollows - mobs spawn on top of you out of thin air. So avoiding the mobs that dont exsist till you are inside them is going to be tricky - but what the hell I'll give it a spin.

Surprise of surprises - I die along the way to such a mob.

Well now that I have wasted 30 minutes and no have more debt that XP given by the mission bonus - I am happy happy.

Can't you tell.

I've put 3 alts through the hollows and had similar challenges. I agree it can be a royal pain in the butt, but it can be done. In fact I only died once because of this situation. You just need to be extra careful as far as the path you take. It's a fine line, but it can be walked.

oh I forgot... what server are you on? I have a character on Triumph that can teleport you to the location if you want. just send a tell to D. Sanchez. let me know

Actually, you have a good break for one thing - it was timed, so if getting there is really, truely pissing you off, just let the timer run out.

No more mission.

Now my level 32 controller with those two missions deep in level 40 DE territory in Founders... well, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about them.

I've had this happen as well. You'll probably get another way out in the boonies as well soon. For some reason, the missions that spawn in the Hollows (but from contacts in other zones) are far far away from either entrance in the Hollows. The missions that spawn in the Hollows from Hollows contacts don't seem to be as bad.

Sorry :-0

I've already forgotten about most of you

Stealth is your friend.

Now if only it weren't for those bloody damn snipers on the rooftops. But they can't hit you more than once in the time it takes you to overfly them anyway...

See, I expected something like this, so I planned in advance. There are probably several approaches, but I decided on taking Phase Shift at 30. At 31 I had it slotted up so I don't lose endurance while phase shifted.

Sure enough, I had a mission in the L40 DE territory at 31, and it even had a sniper guarding the entrance (bad timing I suppose).

I also had a mission at the far end of Crey's Folly, in high level Freakshow territory, past all the Crey and Nemesis snipers.

I expect to start this kind of thing all over again eventually when I get to Peregrine Island. And the whole reason I started on the Concealment line in the first place (beginning with Stealth) is the deadly forest maze in Perez Park. All in all, the Concealment powers have been amazingly useful for me.

Same problem. Group quits. Solo mission, or with friend. Annoyed about the location i stop and think, ya know, this is actually kool. reminds me of the first week i played, being sneeky in missions. A little traveling never hurt...you, personaly. But not EVERY mission HAS to be 1.38 miles away in a part with 8 levels higher than you. A fix is to copy (no,don't say it) SWG. On your hike to your mission, the creatures/bad guys you encounter are either agressive or not agressive. Hellions, Trolls: Agressive. CoT: Not Agressive. the CoT are too busy with rituals to notice a lil level 6 strollin by. There you go. if they're in a ritual, they don't care. if they're standin around with their "crossbows" in their hands, they'll getchya.

Whilst I agreee heartily that these doors are in daft locations at times, after a few alts to practice with I haven't died running to one deep in the hollows for a long time. Last tme (indeed ladst few times but it is hard to think back that far) was due a spawn appearing round me = Instant death.

Zoom out and high to see trouble coming.

If its in the back right - hug the wall.
Back left - don't cut through the gulch go round.

Don't be afraid to pop a purple candy to up the DEF when running.

Failing that ask for help - I have TP'ed random guys to a mission door before (flight makes it very easy) and then back if I was still around.

The trick is to avoid the ambushes, knowing how to avoid those, will leave you with normally spaced MOBs for a hazard zone, wich should be relatively easy to navigate, be prepared to take the long road sometimes though.

Ambushes cannot spawn too close to a MOB that has already spawned.
So instead of running in a direction that is clear of MOBs, you should actually aim to run in the direction of already spawned MOBs, get close to the MOB, go around it, then aim for the next spawned MOB and continue like that.
By avoiding free clear roads or large open squares, you deny the possibility of ambushes. The faster you run, the quicker you die

I have taken 3 characters through Hollows now, and still havent died, I do pop 1 or 2 purples just for good meassure.

I remember when my brother got his first mission...defeat hellions in AP. he was level 2 and had a mission in the red zone.

I'm on my way home when I get a phone call from him.

Brother: "Dude, I can't beat these guys, they are level 6 and I'm level 2"

Me: "What do you mean, in the mission the guys are level 6 and your soloing?"

Bro: "Ya..have to take out hellions at warehouse. I've died 3 times trying to take them out!"

Me: "Did you go into the mission door?"

Bro: "....um, what door?"

Turned out that he was near the waypoint but outside the mission door. He actually thought the hellions outside were the ones he had to kill.

Missions being in tough locations are a challenge but can be reached.

I agree with the OP, for the most part. On the one hand, it IS a hazard zone and should be dangerous, require strategic approaches, etc. But on the other hand, um, how did he say it ...

I had that exact problem- fortunately, my blaster had ss/cloaking device, or I'd have been yelling for help on the broadcast channel....

Then you accidentally zip through the field of fire of four simultaneously....

I had a level 32 regen scrapper, IH and Int running, taken out that way. One moment leaping carefree from rooftop to rooftop, the next, plummeting to the ground clutching her chest. It took me 5 minutes to stop laughing and go to the hospital.

I also sorta agree with the OP. I was pretty annoyed when I got a mission on the far side of the hollows at level 7, I think it was. I was careful. I did my best to avoid mobs. I made it most of the way...

Being careful will work most of the time. But not always. I think it is a bad game design. I can understand that since the Devs went to all the work of designing and adding the Hollows they want players to see/use the zone. Fair enough. But forcing players to go there at such a young level, and in many case run across it through dense packs of deep purples is just going to inspire alot of hate for the zone, IMHO.

Which is a shame, because at somewhat higher levels the Hollows can be better appreciated for being a creatively designed and challenging zone. But by that point, many people already hate it and avoid it like the plague.

You can stay in the city blocks until you get to Red River, then cross Red River and travel over the foothills (Some CoT but easy to avoid due to all the line of sight obstacles) and you can get to pretty much any door that spawns.

IE: You NEVER have to enter the gulch. I'll take a screenshot of my area map and you can see the big black area that I don't go in -- the Gulch.

theres also comming in through the other entrance, lots of times its closer to the mission then at AP entrance.

Heh .. wait until your Steel Canyon contact gives you a door mission in the Land of the Lost where minions are purple.

You learn fast how to jump up to to the tram roof to get to the N/S rail and run the tracks.

That and learn that Stealth is your friend (a auto select power for all my toons)

Ok then, the groups that spawn directly on top of you, and that everyone and their mother on this site call ambushes.
You still have to dodge them no matter what you call them.

Yeah, I sorta agree that this is something that needs to be worked on. Instead of petitioning about it though, bug it. If they get enough bugs it'll be put on the things to be worked on.

You know, I read that, but since I read that supposed change I've had three (3) ambushes in Perez Park. These were ambushes in the 30s, way above the level of Perez Park, one just last week.

Now I only had two enemies attack me each time, so it was no big deal. I didn't /bug it, although perhaps I should have.

I've died more times just trying to reach the mission wp in the Hollows than all the actual in-mission deaths combined, including Atta & Frostfire.

Now I make it a point to /bug every single time yet another Hollows mob instaspawns on top of me. This has been posted countless times, and the devs have not responded. So hopefully all the /bug will be such a PITA for QA that they can light the fire under the devs.

To be honest, I now have two low level characters that I built after issue 2. I've always though life was annoying before Travel Powers, but it's not like the Hollows have made that much difference. I'm pretty good at traveling now and neither character has ever died traveling (well, one did, but that was because I had him set to follow someone else and they jumped right in the middle of a pile of +8 Pumicites). Mobs in this game don't aggro that easily and once you figure out what the aggro range is, it's not hard to avoid getting their attention. I've never taken stealth on any of my characters either (well, the Dark defender does have Shadow Fall, and the Blaster has SS now...).

IMHO, the biggest complaint is that it seems to take forever to get to level 14. Travel without travel powers is just painfully slow.

On the other side of the level range, I once got a mission in the shadow shard where the door was on the underside of one of the floating islands. Nonfliers could only get there by managing a precarious series of fortuitously placed floating rocks to reach the little ledge outside the door.

That was a pretty crazy time, trying to figure out why I couldn't find the door and then realizing where it was placed and what it meant.
