only 5C aren't mutant, but Nat/Sci/Mag/Tech (Human, Vamp,Werewolf, and Robot respectively) unless I'm mistaken, that is all but mutant. Or are the higher level Human types considered mutants for some unorthodox reason?

[/ QUOTE ]

The 5th C have a higher Mutant drop rate, and the Devouring Earth have a higher Science drop rate. Despite the fact that the Nazis are scientifically altered, and the Trees are mutants. Go figure.

Smells like Halloween to me...

Anyone else notice the trees changing color at all?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll believe that they are changing the game environment for the seasons when the trees in perez park and eden start to change (which they are not)

[/ QUOTE ]

Uhhh, the tree canopy in Perez is composed of evergreens. Yeah, that's it.

.... or a wizard did it. Now we will never speak of this again.

I was seeing spawns in IP and Talos which were unusually large for a city zone. I could have sworn I saw hazard-size groups of Family and Tsoo too, though.

It does make sense with some of the speeches I was seeing, though. "The 5th Column must thrive!" and "Soon we will have all the soldiers we need."

Alright, I'm hooked. Now I've just got to get $15 before the end of the month when my subscription runs up in case it doesn't happen before then.

I guess it's time for the Natzi's to feel some hot flaming monkey luv!!

[/ QUOTE ]

What is a "Natzi" and why did you use the posessive form of the noun without indicating a posessed object?

Also an odd note particular to the Nazi's of WWII.

Er, the Nazi's what of WWII?

I would have to agree... Through the Looking Glass implied entering a new world with new rules...

Follow the White Rabbit is a second Lewis Carol reference.....Statesman with his literary and historical background would most likely follow the Victorian age reference.

In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.

JABBERWOCKY

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

`Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jujub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!'

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum gree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wook,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

`And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Calloh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

And if the grave Jabberwockey is not released from within the 5ths lairs on All Hallow's Eve...

I would make sure to avoid eating tarts, cakes or mushrooms you may come across.

Perhaps you will find a small door that opens to a garden; Eden's own description (a garden of living plants could be taken directly from the books themselves.)

Carol frequently focused on the concept of physical changes and Identity...we could see some fun with a change of form if the game follows suit... Want to play dressup on Halloween? Imagine logging in to find yourself looking like 5th Column (since their numbers ARE growing) or Tsoo, or Devouring earth.

the rules of Looking-Glass World are often inconsistent or incomprehensible.

I think we are simply speculating based on insufficient information but Im banking on a mild bit of GM fun come halloween.

I'm going to get away from the speculation of whats coming. I am glad to see this in that it sound like something will add to the world - hopefully a little bit better than the Rularuu invasion...........I like and want City of Heroes to be a dynamic world with events and overall advancing storylines that I can access as a casual player. I came from playing Everquests - one of my frustrations with that game was that I knew that there were things going on in the world but for me to learn anything of it I generally had to turn to outside websites.

In this respect CoH is doing it better as I can read about these things on their website - but I want better. I want to learn this information in game. I think it would be great if I could go up to the Information Terminal and select to look at the latest Paragon Times. I don't know about anyone else but I really don't care who the top hero/healer/whatever is. If they want to deliver such statistics fine - but lets use the Information Terminal for other information about what is going on in the world and advancing content.

Another suggestion could be maybe we could receive the information in-game email. Heck I would even settle for the message of the day when I log in. Just anything so I don't have to go out of game to learn whats going on in-game.

I hope the DEV's aren't wating our time with another half-***** event like the eyeball invasion when they should be working on fixing actual problems, like chain-stunning and other assorted BS that is making COH a miserable game to play right now.

Clearly a hint as to what's in Update #3 - Weeee!

[/ QUOTE ]

I seriously doubt it. There has been no official announcement or preview on the website about what's in store for Issue 3 (both the previous issues had at least one preview web page created). Nothing for Issue 3 is on the training room server. There has been no pre-download of content files. All of this means that Issue 3 is still at least one month away, and probably two or three.

If this was a prelude to Issue 3, then it would have to drag out for a very long time, which would make the final release of the issue somewhat anticlamactic.

[/ QUOTE ]

Issue 2 = Shadow of the Past.

So, er, what's the 5th Column again?

(a general question, using the above post as a springboard)

In an effort to collect more data, police officers have begun calling upon their usual sources within the city’s criminal underground.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriously, the police aren't calling on this at all, considering whenever underground criminal elements approach them, they run like little girls. No wonder they don't have any information for these so-called contacts. Sounds like a smoke screen to cover their hides, giving the appearance that they are doing something... when we all know what the real story is.

Look! There goes one now, running away from the bad guys. Sheesh.

Maybe, that is all an elaberate ruse so they can talk to their informants without giving the game away. if they just walked up to them to talk it would look suspicious, so maybe that arm flailing run they do is a kind of semaphore?

Like Kali said the issue is called Shadow of the Past, this obviously has to do with the back in the day 5th Column. You know the ones that were planning evil stuff during WWII, to them WWII distracted the world from seeing there plans. They are going to introduce new bosses, and try and have a civil war of all villains!

(this is just a hunch)

I forgot i had a timed mission vs them and logged out and the timed mission was were they were going to use magic from the CoT to raise dead leaders from the ww2 era i hope this isnt my fault. oh and i dont really take this news all that seriously cause when the 5th ambush me they send 2 or 3 minons..... yawn. Nemesis send 8 to 12 guys and some LTs after me so i think Nemesis are more of a threat than the nancy's.

Well, it says in the news that we know they have some heavy ordinance...maybe we'll get to see that ordinance and Tanks will be roaming around town

And by Tank I mean the honest to goodness article. I've always wanted to bust up vehicles in CoH, but you can't due to the city being in shambles after a few short hours. So why not have bad guys in vehicles..then you finally get to bust some bolts!!!!!!

Huzzah!!!

5th column will randomly spawn in all city zones for about a week. They will be horribly overpowered for their level, try to only fight -4s or below. Make sure you have status resistance since many of the bosses seem to auto-hit on holds. Nothing of real import will happen and they'll all disappear with no explanation one day.

Oh wait, I'm getting this confused with the "invasion event"...

^^^waaaaaahhhh!

anyways, has anyone seen any 5th yet? if i remeber correctly the rularuu invasion was on a Thursday afternoon.

I don't think CoH will live up to my imagination of a ressurected robot hitler, but I do have something a bit more logical.

Over the past week, I've had two contacts give me the exact same mission: investigate the 5th column's robot production facilities. Both of them are string of 3 missions, wherein I discovered they have manufactured a superintelligent computer program for their robots. The robots turn out to be pretty much sentient and draw up a plan to infect their program into all of Paragon's computer systems and take over humanity.

Of course, both times I stop their efforts flawlessly. However, I found it unusual that I would get a repeat mission like that. It's the first time I've gotten an exact repeat mission since patch day. I had a couple repeat missions from old contacts unrelated to 5th, but I thought it was because Issue #2 might have reset the flags that determined what non-storyarc missions you did.

I can cooberate with white rabbit's observation, in that both missions, the 5th all acted in fear. Even both base commanders were willing to be arrested, to avoid the "punishment" they would recieve, whatever it would be.

If white rabbit's observations are correct, the 5th aren't gearing up to fight us, but to fight a sentient robot invasion made of their own robots.

That's just my outlook, anyway.

The 5th column robot mission repeating is unrelated. Both me and my wife have had that mission repeat. As well as the 5th column defector missions.

This week? or a long time ago?

Also, did your defector missions mention anyone acting in fear?

Just because it repeats for everyone else, doesn't mean it couldn't be it. In fact, the repeating supports it.

i had the robot mission repeat several weeks ago

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I've had the robot mission repeatedly like during last month, I really don't think the repeat missions have anything to do with this.

I support the halloween event idea, it should be very fun Even though the CoH community is international (mostly USA, some Brits, Canadians, Mexicans?, French, and other places, met one person who was in Japan), I'm sure those who don't actually celebrate Halloween will enjoy the occasion

Hmm. As I said earlier, I'm pretty sure I know in general what is about to happen (though not the specifics of it), and the clues are actually not that hard to put together once you have them. In fact, I'd say that quite a few forumgoers already posess all the knowledge they need to figure this one out. I'll just say that the two most important clues are both related to out-of-game information, and one of those clues has nothing directly to do with City of Heros at all (i.e. they are setting up an in-game event for out-of-game reasons).

I won't say more than that, because I'm uninterested in spoiling what I think will happen for those who don't already see it - that'd ruin the fun
