I think a base booster pack is a bad idea. Here are my reasons why...
First - it risks creating SG/VG drama. If a person is a defined "base builder" for a SG/VG - they might be expected to purchase this, even if they would prefer not to. While I think that this would be a rare occurance, it is certainly a plausible outcome for some groups. (Forsaken Empire's point about what happens when leaving an SG/VG are excellent as well.)
Secondly - I doubt the return on the investment would be worthwhile. You're slicing the population down first to those that build bases, and of that group, those willing to purchase additional packs. I think you'd need to factor in the loss of goodwill here as a cost as well. -
Pretty sure this is what Glenn Frey was referring to.

Quote:I think that is where the box confusion comes from - the devs were clear about what they intended it to be, a storytelling device, and an alternative means of leveling. I was just being pedanticFair enough. I was wrong on that. However, in many interviews and posts here on the boards, it was clear that the Devs did intend for it to be an alternative leveling path from 1-50. And like BAB said here, that doesn't mean that it was supposed to be equal, but it was supposed to function in a similar way.

Have you considered a widow? With GR coming, you'd be able to move it over to blueside.

Quote:People keep saying this, but it does_not_ have any mention of that on my AE edition box. (I pre-ordered off Amazon - so I had it long before any of the XP changes went through.)JE Saist, AE was advertised as an alternate leveling path from level 1-50. It just was. On the AE Edition boxes, it was specifically listed as such.
(I think AE is fine giving XP btw - but the whole "it says it on the box" is not persuasive and to me, inaccurate.) -
Thanks for having me along for Posi - will come along for Cavern of Transcendance if you still have room.

Quote:Right - cause if you didn't play smart against those waves of maniac slammers, you'd have to run those torturous 14 steps from the AE hosp to get back in the mish.
Note:
One think I liked about the AE Boss farms is that it was played mostly by 8 man teams and for the most part forced you to play smart and have a good team structure. I really wouldnt mind TFs and Story Arcs being like that. Id love the challenge to be able to stay at lvl 50 and get my merits or purples. -

I'm reading your post as defining "proposed" content as anything from the suggestion and ideas thread. I'm not really sure I'd considered stuff from there as "proposed" in anything other than the literal sense.
I'm not really sure that content is zero-sum between Aion and CoX either, and while some of the things would be nice to have with an unlimited development budget, I guess - there is nothing on that list that would really improve the game (for me) in any substansive way, outside of what we're apparently getting with GR. -
And this is why they should offer the items as microtransactions. If you do buy the $90 one - you're out $90 - and Paragon is out the free month, as I doubt any of that box sale is going to end up back at Paragon - certainly none of the premium they are asking for as opposed to the alternative. You pay for exactly what you want, the pieces, at a more reasonable cost while Paragon not only avoids the free month, but also makes a small amount on the sale. Good for those that want the costume pieces, good for the company.

Seeing as I bought the ninja pack without seeing any of the screenies or the video of ninja run, I'm pretty much in for whatever.
(More hats would be nice though - and more neck pieces, especially a bandana tied around the neck...) -
My inner-pedant compels me to mention that the cyborg pack came out before the magic pack did. Apologies - I tried, really.
My guess is that it will be the mutant pack. So far, with the possible exception of the magic pack, each booster pack has been focused on one subset of an origin. (Tech entails more than cyborgs, but tech pack was essentially a cyborg back. Science is more than mad science, natural more than ninjas/martial arts. Magic focused mostly on occult-ish magic, which is a little broader than the other 3.)
So - are there specific subsets of mutants - or will in be thematically broader?
(My only guesses are that it will contain some new aura's, and perhaps a long cool down non-combat self buff (increased regen kind of thing. ) -

Sauce over cheese pizza is either a Trenton Tomato Pie or Detroit Style

If the animations allow it - something along the lines of Deadshot's wristols.

And possible skirting the line too close to raygun (but looks as though it could fire bullets easily...) Something along one of the sidearms from the Invid Robotech series.

You made it up to lackey status? Grats! - I thought you were never going to break the "flunky status ceiling."

A quick google search for the Egyptian word for light came back with the following answers:
aakhu

uin
So - for something classic - adding Doctor in front of one of those could work. For something more mythological - adding Isis in front of one could also be a possibility. -
Quote:One could make the argument that your playing a knock off character does negatively impact the play of others. (Wasn't there some potential/actual litigation from Marvel based on rip-off characters? The argument would be that Paragon/NCSoft money spent defending itself it court is money not spent improving the game/adding new content, thus negatively impacting the play of others. Please note - I am saying that this argument could be made, not that I am necessarily making it.) It probably comes down to how much of a knock off it truly is though. Now, I pay my $15 dues every month just like everyone else. I'd say that I have every right to play the game how I wish (without negatively impacting the play of others) without warranting others to tell me how I should play. If that means one day, I'll play an original creation, or another day, I'll play the character inspired from one of my favorite cartoons, it's my $15. And if it really bothers you that much, then I believe the best thing you can do is to not interact with me, rather than actively trying to ruin my good time.
Now please educate me here... Am I wrong for thinking this?
So do you have the right to play a knock-off character? (The following is just opinion - and shouldn't be taken as me asserting any of it as fact.) Long Answer - that seems to be up to a GM if/when you are petitioned. Regardless of copyright laws, our "rights" in this game, being a private server, seem to extend as far as NCSoft extends them to us. Short Answer - probably not, but that doesn't mean you can't try to.
Should you be harassed about your choice up to that point? Nope. If it bothers someone that much - they ought to petition you and move on. (Disclaimer - I have not petitioned anyone in this game for any reason, including a knock-off/homage costume.) -
Something with storm perhaps? I'm suggesting that based on that if you get into your folks ether, tornado really could appear to be a swarm of bees. Some of the other powers could conceivably work - but you'd need something stronger than ether.

(In general and not addressed specifically to the OP)
An interesting discussion though I'm not sure I see the benefit in making some other person's even intentionally (though in most cases this would be an assumption on the part of the receiver) poor communication personal by taking it as a sign of a lack of respect to you. I certainly see the benefit in possibly not dealing with such a person, not teaming with them or even ignoring them altogether - but to make it explicitly about respect seems to me about moving away from reaching an understanding than it is to working towards it. (That's an aside - and I'm agreeing to disagree on this point as it is essentially a matter of opinion.)
The best argument for trying to communicate clearly is demonstrated by the trials of the OP though. She initially communicated in a way that was ineffective for this environment - be it with multi-colored font or her defensively abrasive responses to being questioned about it.
Her message was mostly lost because of this, and the discussion became about her methods of posting rather than the substance of her posts. She's since made an adjustment to better suit the environment here, and while the discussion of methods continues - her messages are now being received and considered.
It's not about being better than anyone, it's not about respecting anyone (though it certainly helps) it's not about showing off - it's about being heard and understood. You can't persuade someone if they can't/won't decode your message. If you're taking the time to communicate - it's worth the effort to tailor it most effectively to your target audience. Here at (or is it in?) the Virtue forums - it's not a black tie affair, but it is probably a business casual one. (In a different environment though - proper grammar and standard language would hinder being understood/received as opposed to enhancing it.) -
Quote:Good to see you back DW.The best thing you can do with a Mary Sue is indulge them, (for as long as they can be tolerated), then gracefully bow out when the time seems right.
(Hymnal here - I miss our ongoing discussion about absolutely nothing on the old SS boards for what it's worth...)
Excellent post. Honestly curious as to why indulging them is the best thing to do, though. Can you expand on this a bit?
As far as the topic goes - it seems like it is mostly mental abilities that cause this sort of play this sort of way. I've never had character with super strength tell me that they broke my legs and I can't use super jump anymore.... -
If you don't mind a question here... I have a son/rad that I am seeing if I can work into an AV soloer while still being fun to play otherwise. One thing that seems pretty consisent about all the son/rad AV builds is the Mu patronset. Is it the energy resistance or the conserve power that makes it the patron powerset of choice?
