Collectors Edition Item Pack

Hello Paragon Marketing! I have a suggestion for you. Why not make the in game items from the City of Heroes Collector Edition and the City of Villains Collectors Edition available through micro transactions? I'm sure there are plenty of folks who'd like to get their hands on Power Slide or the Cape of Fourn Winds.

<obcomplaint>Should've collected 'em when they were out there!</obcomplaint>

OK, with that out of the way - they used to have the "hero gear" kits (which just used the keys from the COH CE, IIRC.) I'd have no problem with this being made available. Same with the COV one, though most people would only notice the cape. If it's possible to make more codes for this, I'd say do it.

Yes, I have both already. So yes, it means I would have paid more for mine than the $10 this would likely cost. However, I've (a) had the nifty stuff for some time now, (b) know the money went for a game I greatly enjoy, and (c) have all the physical goodies as well

(Also, before someone mentions it - no, they won't show up as vet rewards at any point, per the devs. They won't give away items that others have paid for. Preorder items, yes, since those weren't extra cost. CE or special edition type items, no - but they never said they wouldnt' *sell* them later.) (Edit: IOW, /signed.)

Do you have a big lots near you? Worth peeking in from time to time - I picked up several (for friends who didn't have them, and one COH CE for my second account) at $5-$10 each.

And this is why they should offer the items as microtransactions. If you do buy the $90 one - you're out $90 - and Paragon is out the free month, as I doubt any of that box sale is going to end up back at Paragon - certainly none of the premium they are asking for as opposed to the alternative. You pay for exactly what you want, the pieces, at a more reasonable cost while Paragon not only avoids the free month, but also makes a small amount on the sale. Good for those that want the costume pieces, good for the company.

I'd really like to see those sold, myself, especially as codes. I'm pretty sure it's outright impossible for me to even FIND a US collector's edition DVD here in Eastern Europe.

If such a thing went on sale, the price should be what the difference was between the normal and collector's editions. Which was $10, I think. Cause any other price would be seen as unfair in one direction or the other.

Well, for the COH CE, I paid $20 for it. Which was either even or less than the regular edition. (picked it up at wal mart, it was the only edition it had.) the COV CE was, IIRC, $90. (Depending on where or when you got it - again, I saw it later at $35, and at big lots for $10.)

Charging - let's call it $30 - would certainly not be a good idea, not least because the actual *editions* came with physical items (heroclix in both, a PVP comic in COH, a concept art book and the now-defunct CCG in the COV box) that would no longer be available. So, honestly, it wouldn't be unfair in the least. (As someone who picked up the COV CE when it came out, and started in I3 with the COH DVD edition - I've had the goodies for years, more than enough to get any difference worth of cash for my enjoyment. I don't feel it'd be unfair at all.)

Besides, you'd get two capes, a power slide, chest emblem and a badge (same badge, different wording.) Would you pay the $30 or more difference for less than the wedding pack gives you? The usual $10 is perfectly fair.

Aside from the horrid cost, are you sure that can ship to here without costing me an arm and a leg in shipping, getting lost in the mail or taking 6 months to travel half-way around the world? My mother mailed a package to the US yesterday, and that in itself cost more than the equivalent of $15.

Buying them as a pack would be very nice... I'd then have a Cape to start out with other than the Valkyrie one.

LOL, I'm only a 6-month vet. Never even heard of coh before last year, let alone 2005....=P

(which is exactly why it should still be available, for whackjob booster pack item anything to do with it collector's like me)

I have the CoV boxed set, found it on ebay for $5, but it's the euro one so i can't apply the code for the arachnos cape/symbol...should have read the fine print, ahh well...

This I can heartily support. Even though I have both Collectors Editions (though the CoH disc seems to have been lost to the carpet gnomes) there are still plenty of people who'd want the in-game goodies. Plus, anything that generates extra income for the devs is a good thing. It's a wonder why they haven't made it happen already, to be honest.

Both collector's capes don't unlock until level 20 with the normal cape unlock.

I'm *hoping* you read past what you quoted... where my actual opinion on the suggestion is.

Got lucky on Ebay recently and bought one for 20$. You can try looking at Biglots and Rite Aid if you have them in your area. Some Biglots apparently had too many and are now selling them for as low as 10$.

The 1st collectors edition I bought ended up being for the UK coh servers and its collecting dust right now. In fact there for awhile it ended up being the only version of the collectors I could find on Ebay. Really pissed me off that they wouldnt convert the code over to Us servers. They should really merge all of those codes so they can be used on either account.

Friends don't let friends buy an ncsoft controlled project.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Hero Gear being available again at the store eventhough I dont need it. BUT you are somewhat incorrect about Paragon being 'out the free month'. The secondary market has no real bearing on what Paragon is or isnt 'out' of since the the box was 'sold' to someone at sometime, and Paragon did get the money that they expected even if the sale was a wholesale clearance as with the plethora of Boxes that ended up in Big Lots inventory. It would be like the Trial codes being considered 'lost money' to Paragon (they arent BTW).

My real question is: why in the heck did Paragon/NCsoft/whoever flood the wholesale clearance market with Collector's Editions when these Boards have been begging for them for years? I really would like to know the answer to that one. Meh, probably was just some product brokering deal or somesuch. Still a pity.

You know, you really should write the two words separately, because I kept reading "Biglots" as "Bigots" and kept wondering what kind of intolerant shop that could be.

That's pretty much what it comes down to. If I want to get a collector's edition DVD for the US version of the game - the one I actually OWN - then I have to either import it or buy it from someone else who imported it. Neither option is appealing. Well, there IS sort of a third option. A friend of mine offered to buy it for me, give me the code, keep the physical... Everything and I could PayPal him the cost. Since I haven't used that service, however, and since I'm a bit skittish about using my credit card online, I haven't committed to it. I don't want the physical stuff, anyway. The code is all I want.

I, like many others, got all the goodies from the Collectors Edition last month, for $20, from NCSoft. How, you ask? I PayPal'd the money to a friend who attended Hero Con, where they were selling Hero Gear kits for $20. This was all the physical goodies, the in-game goodies, AND a month of game time.

I believe they sold them last year too. If you really want one, keep your eyes open around Hero Con time next year, and get someone you know who's attending to pick one up for you.

Paragon/NCSoft didn't. Retailers that overstock or close locations sell (etc.) their stock to overstock stores like Big Lots, who turn around and sell them at the prices you see. NCSoft didn't have a say in the process past the initial sale to the first retailer.

I would be down with the Item pack also. I never got the chance cause I only heard about CoV when the first Valentine's Event was on. So it has always pained me not getting it. It is a bit of a pain to get in Eastern Canada. Also with mailing laws I cannot get this mailed from the states. So I would love to pay X amount of dollars for it.

Yeah, I actually realized this upon posting, but being in a tryptophan-induced haze; I let it stand (and my lil bit about 'brokering' was a vague attempt by my turkey-mezzed mind to show that I'm really not that dense... IHAZFAIL )

Considering that they did not send them free to the original retailers who later dumped them at Big Lots or whatever, then that means NC/Paragon/Whatever already got their money for that box. Little thing called First Sale and whatnot.

The only person who is out anything is the doorknob who was willing to pay the $90 for the set.

Note to self. Stick to your policy of reading through an entire thread before posting.

Though seriously, I really was not expecting anyone else to actually think to point out the above detail.

Big Lots does carry CoV (Not sure about CoH.) Snagged a basic edition today. They didn't have a normal edition, but at least it was a month of game time and a Black Scorpion Hero Clix for only $4. *shrug*
