  1. ah well, glad you enjoyed your time here, and maybe one day you will be back. we will leave a fire tanker on for you.
  2. got my dp/pain corrupter from 1-13 thus far. worked friday and saturday but will likely hit at least 17 tonight.
  3. well, there is "gear" now with inventions, dunno if you were here when they came out, but as per another recent thread, most people care more that you are fun to play on a team with then whether you have a lot of invention bonuses. there isnt really an "endgame "per-se right now, though one is being worked on apparently, in fact, you will find that post issue 16, they expanded the sidekicking system so that a new player with higher level friends can group much more easily now, everyone is the leader's level, no more pairing. now the lack of certain powers will still mean that a natural level 30 will be more helpful than a level 10 sidekicked up, but most players are pretty open about it, and actual accounts of gear related nastiness are fairly rare.

tldr version, get in here, its fine.

carrion creepers during a zombie apocalypse.
    more costumes.
    more animations.
  7. I dont go crazy with bonuses, but i make sure to have at least generic so's at level 35, never got the mindset behind avoiding at least generic io's, but if you are happy, go you.
  8. good ol' unsub, i can see why jaz would love subby.

    The Boot Myth

in nearly 6 years, i have personally been booted once, during a nasty trash talking spat in pvp between the leader of our group and the leader of the one hero group, when i asked our leader to cool it and she kicked me. and once i was not invited to a rsf run because my dominator was not perma. i do wonder sometimes when people go on about people being kicked for small build issues, if its a freedom/virtue thing, or if they are just drama queens. I will note that i have kicked people twice as well, once because the guy parked himself at the door of a longer mission, and then went to the store(and i mean the grocery store, not just a run to sell enhancements ingame, he abandoned the game and the team, without telling us till his roomate popped on his character to tell us). the sad part is, id have put up with it if he'd asked, and once when a blaster was acting suicidal and would not listen to multiple attempts to alter the team strategy, 4th wipe i decided it was best for us to pursue separate ventures.

you know, despite my intention to go with a cowboy/desperado type character, i wound up going steampunk too, after listening to "airship pirates" a bit too many times. so i went with a steampunk pirate named "alerunner abney". , he has a hook for a hand, because i love the absurdity of that working here. and yes, his name is call-out for abney park, who got me to make him in the first place, but i kept his guns modern, because i loved the colored beams on the compensators.

    Jack Emmert?

I guess the problem with any discussion about jack is that it is hard to tell where the legitimate criticism ends, and the nerdraging entitlement issues begin. I felt he did ok and often made hard choices for the good of the game and was abused in a fashion that went beyond what civilized people really should expect from adults, but hey, its the internet. I suppose that as an ex swg player, i get a mournful laugh when i hear that a lead developer should "listen to the players", sometimes they have good ideas, but since they dont have their jobs on the line when their ideas turn out to only please their specific niche of the fanbase and lead to diminished subscribers, it soemtimes is best to be realistic about the real quality of suggestions.
  12. On test when dps went out, my first was a "el mariachi" parody name "el contable"(the accountant), debating on whether to go cowboy or Mariachi first.

    improv, puddin'.

and as for the article, good to know we still are getting good words. last i recalled was the x-play special on mmos, where we tended to come out pretty well. basically we aint the gorilla, but we tend to be seen as a acceptable niche choice. i can live with that.
  14. well, my upgrades tended to be for oblivion, and then because that computer bought the farm, but i'm nearly 69 months here, and have all the boosters, the gve pack, and the mac pack, and the cov regular pack(i dont recall being too impressed with the collectors pack). I have saved a percentage of the months though, because i went on the longer subscription options, so i was saving around 4 bucks a month, and i got on both the 14 month deals. and yes, im getting the gr pre-order and the upgrade pack as soon as possible.

oh and billz, having watched "idiocracy" this weekend again, i got something much dirtier out of your daily latte'

to be fair, the costume creator has long been one of coh's major draws, so a alteration that fixes an issue that was initially brought up in beta is going to make some people happy, particularly when several issues that players were bracing themselves for as limitations didnt happen. also, we really know nothing about the content, and the qol fixes, whle cool, are all fairly specific. my lowbies are thrilled that i will be able to filter down influence to them with my 50's, and the additional mission slots will alleviate a lot of pressure that i sometimes get into, but this is a fix to one of coh's main draws, so the reaction is not unexpected really, even among non monstrous character players. trust me, if back details get announced, the thread will be 3 times as long by now.

I dunno, their look struck me more like the department of precrime in minority report. but psychics can go both ways, depending if they are precognitives or telepaths.

Over my samurai armor wearing, martial arts using dragon body. you can keep your stylized eurocentric setting, thank you very much.
as for me, i have to put another one for ninja gaiden, scythes, grappling, flexable weapons(the flails in 1 and the kusari gama in 2) and the lunar staff, i can see that as nice.

heh, i didnt remember making that post.sheesh, THAT was 4 years ago. yeah, multi kick looked great, seeing it on x-play was one of the things that got me to play here, but it was fairly weak as it was but it is funny that since then martial arts was buffed again and now is a pretty good, if not exceptional, set.

one funny memory was seeing a deathcap running after someone in steel canyon. It was deep purple, and my friends and i decided that continued respiration was the greater part of valor, but i was curious as to why after beating up gang members, cultists and nazi's, how the heck ents fit in the battle. it was pretty cool.

I also remember fighting a circle ghost for the first time, they debuffed me to the point i couldn't hit them, and i thought for a second that they were immune to physical damage(like in morrowind, ghosts were immune to non magical weapons under silver class) and wondered how the heck i was to fight them.

here is one for recent players. you know how those craftable wings are relatively inexpensive? it wasnt that way at first, they used to be on a different drop list, so they were very rare and some ran in excess of 20 million inf.
  21. my biggest issue with earth/ tanks is their mez resistance, it is just too slow, ice spoiled me for not having powers that severly reduce my speed, plus the over reliance on granite armor i find distasteful. I loved when they changed the graphics and added the magma and crystal effects, but being forced to either drag my feet, use teleport, or have a kineticist stuck in my pockets. beyond that i'm up for anything, though i tend not to play fire sets just because my friends tend to play fire and i like to play a different meshing set so that we don't overdo secondary effects, i like to spread them a round.

you know, i think what threw people off is they detailed exactly what was in the pack, but not in the "two ways to get going rogue" announcement. they did it instead in the "ultra mode, issue 17 dark mirror and going rogue" one, so if you missed that there can be some confusion if you dont read every announcement.

  24. well, i have talked on this a few times, so bear with me
martial arts-yeah it got a street fighting pass, but i would like to see a "movie kung fu" pas next, open palm strikes, arear leg side kick with a high chambering of the knee and a full extension of the heel, the spinning open handed strike from helena's kick+punch in dead or alive as a possible eagles claw replacement. perhaps a few capoeria kicks with characters falling into negativa and kicking from the ground, and finally, perhaps have some muai thai kicks, with the hip rotation follow through, shin/instep striking surface with storm kick being a low leg strike, a high roundhouse to the face for crane kick, and a leaping knee strike for eagle's claw.

next, i wouldn't mind alternate animation for the medicine pool. the tricorder works for tech based characters, but maybe have a scroll with some illuminated runes (or kanji symbols) hovering above it as an alternate animation for magic themed guys, or a more modern first-aid kit with a spray type attachemnt for more natural characters.

for shadow maul the image i have is not the hammer(though that makes sense) but id prefer to see the character's hands become enveloped in black glove like claws, for a bear-like maul, maybe that would work.

also, for elemental attacks that are non weapon specific, i wouldn't mind seeing some kicks or more martial artsy alternate animations. just too much use of the overhead smash, body blow, and one-two combo for my taste, a few extra options would help a lot.
  25. good goin rob, when i have the time(less lately) i do this as well. new players are what determine whether here will continue to be here, so even if you aren't social, it just makes sense to grow the next crop of players and make them happy. (plus they sometimes send you a pm thanking you months later, that is really awesome when it happens)
