After relooking I noticed the difference between the MM pain and Corrruptor pain. The best I was able to do was get you 41% S/L, 30% Range Defense and 303% regeneration. World of pain was perma and it gave you resistances in the high 20s.
I don't know honestly. I think you might be better with Time instead of pain. -
As was mentioned we can't pull the build down.
But if anything what are you defense numbers ? I see Scorpion and a few defense powers.
What is your personal regeneration numbers ?
If we are going to dabble into incarnate powers I am thinking between Barrier and your regen it should be very good. On my DS Pain MM I have around 660 % regeneration. End result I survive much longer then my pets do.
My only gripe is having a several DP Corruptors I am not crazy about the damage output. The Scourge is great for big bosses because it is such a big chunk and they last much longer below the 50% mark during fight.
If I was going to compare this minimally with my DS Pain then you should be able to do 2/8 settings at least, which is nothing to complain about. But I need to see real numbers. See how fast HOB is up, etc.. -
No matter how you slice an SOA your going to dabble into a mix in some shape way or form. But you can minimize the mix depending on the route you go.
Crab wise builds..
No pets - Full defense cap - Your picking up Lev mastery for Arctic breath and Bile Spray. Pretty much a bunch of AOE attacks.
Hover Crab - Range defense cap - Perma pets - Your picking up Pets from Ancillary pool as well. Again pretty much long range AOE attacks with pets. Some what spooky with the claws wiggling in the air.
Then there is a mix of defense or defense cap with pets but not perma. Getting close to perma will probably involved some purple IO sets. Much dinero here.
Bane wise
Again Defense cap - Going strong on Melee attacks with some range attacks for set bonuses ( again not much about this you need the powers for the set bonuses ). But primary you will be like a tank, brute, scrapper fighting up front.
Again Bane can go a mix of pets
Then you have what many call Huntsman build
It is basically what you have been doing for last 21 levels. But you end up fleshing it out a bit more. Your going to have double Maneuvers, Double Assault, Tactics. You will have a mix of mace attacks beyond your gun. Yet again not much of a choice here going for set bonuses.
You can have either a huntsman full defense cap with no pets or Huntsman hover blaster range cap with perma pets and then finally I think you can have defense cap and perma pets if your willing to slot 5 purple sets. Again lots and lots of money here.
What I can tell you from my personal experience.
I have a full defense cap crab with no pets. Great toon. Can solo 4/8 settings.
I recently got to 50 a Huntsman range cap hover blaster with perma pets. I just soloed Malta on a 4/8 setting. I was shocked myself. I did it twice, resetting the mission to make sure it wasn't just dumb luck. I do have mace mastery ancillary so I do have redraw using that mace weapon for the attack and for summoning the pet. But though your limited in your number of attacks per say compared to other toons. With the double assault the attacks really do pack a punch. The attacks honestly do some high end damage compared to my other toons and including my blasters.
I have a Range cap perma pets Hover crab build I intend on working on. The great thing about Crabs is they get more pets. Should be very interesting will all the pets running around. I will of course pick up barrier to cap out myself and the pets and pick up Arachnos pets from lore.
Just remember I think once you go crab you cannot turn back. So your stuck with that back pack all the time. I could have made the crab a huntsman and just had a useless back pack, but instead I just rerolled a new toon not to have the back pack. -
Quote:Just use Mids and activate the Incarnate to see the difference. But the short answer is yes it does make a difference having Spiritual.Does the Spiritual Alpha ability help in terms of +rech for triage beacons? If so I should look into it for my traps corr. I think I took Musculature. Will have to run more trials if the answer to my question is yes.
On any build where endurance is questionable I always compare Musculature to Cardiac to see if I can slide by with Musculature to get the 2 point difference for endurance ratio, otherwise I pick up cardiac and try to adjust my build accordingly. -
After looking at the set choices I'm not to sure its doable. I think the regeneration issue might be a problem. But I think you might be able to use envenom dagger temp to help you hindering regeneration.
I'm guessing that Radiation for the -Def is gonna be helpful to keep defenses down to hit the AV. I would think something that is going to boost your damage or hinder the AV in some other way example recovery to limit his choices of attacks or something to boost your dps. Energy Manipulation might be good.
You would also need to be defense capped for range and have some way to heal yourself as hit will get in. -
Quote:When the game first came out the powers were pretty much paired up. So AR went with Device. AR Device did not have build up so they gave Target Drone that bonus for AR. It was poorly thought out and minimal updates have been done to Device since it first came out.Yeah I know it doesn't take snipe sets, hence the question. I think it has a small cone (5' I think?) and yeah, I've never taken it before, but I was thinking about making a devices dp blaster so thought I'd ask.
What I -didn't- know was that the drone only helped the assault rifle's snipe. Huh. How weird and limited. Thanks for the info! -
Did you mean Saturday the 8th or Sunday the 9th, but you can't have both.
But for competitive reasons I am going to PM you my build. I created my build blindly based on the criteria requested and then compared to what was posted here.
My PM is a bit long winded sorry.
But I needed to explain what I felt was different from the competitors and why I went certain routes. At the end either way I will post the build here if Tourettes doesn't for the sake of showing it. -
You can't for example get to make another VEAT costume after the first one. Example you wanted one without the cape and another with the the cape.
-
Page 3 has about 8 threads related to exactly what your asking about. Page 2 has about 4 or 5 thread related to MM.
Just pick up vengeance and ask someone to be your dead slave and viola farming build. -
You have no defenses and you have moderate S/L resistance numbers. I don't know what you could think you can farm with this build. You need to be capped for something to survive long enough.
-
I did forget that Afterburn takes defense IOs. So It might be worth taking in some instances.
-
Quote:You need to play around with it click the buttons and pull up the different menus and see. That is how I learned. It won't break it.This is a fine guide for how to build a character. But for the computer-stupid among us (ie, me), it doesn't show how to actually USE mids.
I will give this word of advice regarding mids. Make completely and absolutely sure if your making a PvE character that the button on top is set to PvE and not PvP. Otherwise your defense and resistance numbers will be completely screwy. I did that once and what I thought was a defense cap toon was not in PvE because my button was set to PvP. -
Your in a tight situation. Your trying for full positional and Perma pets. Your not gonna get both without purple sets ( billions ).
I went Range cap hover blaster style with perma pets. I picked up Barrier for me and the pets which of course caps me out defense and resistance wise for 2 minutes and it lingers for a bit afterwards. I just did 8/4 solo on a Malta paper mission. I do have Surveillance.
As far as redraw goes you have soul tentacles and Gloom sort of a moot point don't you think.
I think you have to make a few choices.
If anything give up combat offense. -
Wait, before you jump to make that respec
Power Boost buff only last a few seconds for defense buffs. I think its like 7 or 10 seconds.
But what I am confused is your AR EM and your having issues getting range capped. I think you should be able to get Range capped and have hover and Aid self on the build. Further why would you care to be typed capped if your positional capped ? The game takes your best numbers when determining defenses. -
Quote:On the point of AV/EBs and pets distance, I regularly solo the "Elite Boss" Warwalker in the lambda trial on both my thugs/dark and bots/trap incarnate MMs. Im super lazy and after I lead in with a gangwar(thugs) or seeker drones(bots) Im right there underneath the EB along with my pets. I hardly ever lose pets, and even though AVs resist -tohit, I can really hamper their damage with all the twilight grasps and seeker drones that I am actively clicking once off recharge.
Basically the reason I post this is because after having purple IOed and t4 incarnated a /time MM I am less than impressed with that MM. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my primary is necro but I just dont like how busy /time is. I prefer debilitating debuffs over a hodge podge set that combines soso buffs and soso debuffs. Time is great for spawn clearing i think but for hard targets you really cant beat /traps and /dark. They are the 2 kings of MM secondaries and unless /cold is ported over, nothing will rival what those 2 can do.
I will say I was impressed with a Time Defender that was holding the mobs and making much easier for us to kill the escapees on a 12 man BAF. Without him and a brute who was 1 shotting many of the mobs it would have been really, really rough or next to impossible.
I completely agree about the busy nature of it. I only played one to 20 and I just wasn't feeling it and I actually deleted it. I have toons in their teens I have on my account from 7 years ago, but this toon just didn't sit well with me and I was not happy at all with the endurance numbers I was seeing. I actually thought it was a math problem in MIDs.
But nonetheless, I really can see at times it has some interesting stuff that you can activate all at once that can put a Time player in wow that was amazing category. Sadly Robot Traps or Dark has been doing that for a long time.
I think in a team setting with all the other buffs it will make a good impression. But I don't think solo it will do what some other MM sets are doing if that is what your looking for. Mastermind are normally busy and require some work dealing with Pet AI and such. I'm just not in the mood of making myself ( yep I know I'm bringing out a personal issue here ) even more busier. I can play my DS Pain if I want to click a lot of powers. -
Quote:Many. many people would disagree with you. Martial Arts and Super Strength both bring specific concepts of fighting style to mind which don't really fit the "unskilled/non-powered brawler" style, and as such many feel limited by them.
There's been people asking for a street fighting type of set for years. While I'm not terribly interested in it, I think it's a nice, polished looking set.
I don't know, I seen the video and all I seen were the same 3 or 4 attacks over and over and over again. I was literally bored half way through. Maybe its changed since then. -
On Mids when you have your build open. Look on top and where it says Import Export, click that. Choose Long forum export. A new window will open up. On the right where it says formatting code type, choose either Official Forums (vBulletin) or phpBB / Zetaboards. On the bottom where it says Data Chunk, check the box that says Export Data chunk as well as Data link. Then click Export now button on the bottom of that new screen. The build will now be on your clipboard. Come to the forums and right click and hit paste to paste the build into your posting.
As for not understanding whats good or not then I suggest you take the time to read the links in my signature. That is the reason why they are my signature. I was tired of linking that stuff all the time.
As for the what a huntsman build. You can click the link and read up or do a search for huntsman.
Again the SOA forums really do not revolve that much or at such a great rate that doing a search is really necessary. You just need to float back a few pages to get some ideas.
Also you need to decide how much your going to spend on a build. I've seen guys spend billions on a build with several purple sets and PvP IOs. Personally that's not my style and I feel I will forgo doing 50 DPS per second and save those billions for 2 or 3 other builds and toons I have ideas for.
Once again if you haven no clue then you need to log in and look at the prices of those IOs. I have seen players talk about making billion INF builds but not understanding that they cost that much or think that by the time they are 50 they can get that money without serious marketing work. Nutshell your talking at least 400 million for a decent build. -
There are defense capped Crab builds and Bane builds. There are hover crab, range cap, perma pet builds as well. As was mentioned you can either scroll back a few pages and see them or do a search. This forum is not one that moves that fast thread wise so you don't have to dig to deep.
The problem is are you going to know which build is better then the next and why ? -
All I'm going to say is just take this one experience with a grain of salt. He was part of a team and he was running 2/8. I know he was semi soloing and such, but I was fighting Death Surge ( Giant Monster ) solo yesterday and lost my FFG and all my Robots except for Assault Bot from one good AOE hit. I resummoned the pets but didn't notice the FFG for a bit. I was still getting attacked with only 1 pet and no FFG. I lost at a minimum of 15% defense wise with FFG down. I still was not getting hit.
He popped Farsight and had Time Juncture running. I forget to resummon my FFG every 4 minutes I couldn't imagine having to remember to recast Farsight every 2 minutes. Just seems too much of a pain in the backside.
So at a minimum he was AOE and Melee capped. I doubt he was range capped ( at least at that level ). And as some mentioned Mezz is gonna mess up that build because Time Juncture plays a big part in getting those defenses capped.
I could do 3/8 setting of CoTs and bring out no pets if I just wanted to make an impression.
My SOA Huntsman can solo Malta on a 4/8 setting. Yes I said it, Malta.. I just did it to see. It was a paper mission and I used it to get TIP missions. I did the mission 2 times on 4/8.. It was a busy fight but I was able to do it and I didn't die.
I think you were at the right place at the right time.
I'm not saying Time isn't good. But to you need Farsight Perma and you need to obtain range cap. It isn't that easy doing that without gimping something in the set. With Traps your not necessarily doing that and I think that is the difference.
Microcosm mentioned Clarion. I have Clarion T4 on my Dark Electric Defender because I rely on Darkest Night to obtain melee and aoe similarly to time Juncture, I have Range cap via set bonses. It kills me when I get mezzed because if I don't have a break free handy or 3 similar inspirations to make one, it pretty much means the death of me almost instantaneously. But even Clarion is not the cure all fix all.
I'm just not a fan of having rely on -ToHit Debuff to obtain my defense caps. Just too much can go wrong with it. -
I was just posting in the Demon Traps / Time thread above.
What I did is removed hasten from the build I posted there and Frankenslotted 5 slotted Defense Recharge IOs in Farsight which made it perma. So between the hit debuff of Time Juncture and Farsight your at least defense capped to Melee and AOE. As long as you can force mobs into that positions your good I guess. Range is going to be your issue. But against AVs it is mostly Melee and AOE so your good. Time does offer some regeneration. But it does not show up on the stats so I need to add it up to see.
Six slotting Farsight for 3 SO of defense and 3 SO of recharge makes it perma and gives you the defense numbers. 4 slots of hit debuff and 2 endurance in Time Juncture offer you the hit debuff.
But your still not going to obtain defense caps without eating a purple inspiration or getting some set bonuses in place.
So I think some of what people are saying is a bit off. Unless your going to feed yourself and the pets purples inspiration for the fight and make sure you keep getting them. I guess you could fill your mailbox up as well to add an additional 21 inspirations.
End result Farsight is going to offer on average 14.5% in defenses. But your still short 30% range defense. Time Juncture is going to offer around 15% so for melee and aoe your at about 29% which leaves you trying to get 16% defense. I don't know if Time Juncture is like Storms Hurricane that leaves a lingering debuff for a short period of time. Either way I wouldn't rely on hit debuff to linger long enough to help you with range defenses. But as I stated AVs usually are in your face so range is not much of an issue. -
Pet AI is still screwed up and all pets regardless of AT type end up going into melee range now. So even Device Gun Drone goes into melee range.
You need to use the numpad key binds. Create a new keybind for Period key as all pets stay. Spam that to keep the pets behind you. When you see them creep up past you command them to all goto and put them behind you again. Sometimes you need to put them on passive quickly and send them behind you to get them to move and stop aggroing.
Its a pain but it works. This is why I try to create my builds around tankermind approach because its much easier to control the baddies then the pets sometimes. -
Quote:The simple first issue I see is Ranged VS Melee..Hi guys, im leveling a mastermind with my friend, who is a Dark/EA Brute. I want to have a MM who can solo AVs and other hard things, but im not sure if I should go Demons/Traps or Demons/Time. Could anyone tell me which one would be best at level 50 with incarnate ablilities and stuff.
Thanks!
Demons is a mix of Range and Melee. Putting Melee pets in close proximity of a AV regardless of what you have is going to have issues. Simple example is the AV ( or EB ) guarding the warehouse and lab in the BAF Incarnate trial. Even with Barrier active on my pets they still get hits and take damage some times and they are capped out for defense and resistance at those times. So personally having Demons in close range of a AV is not good or not the best choice. Now you do have some healing components within time which seem very nice and might be of some help. The cool thing is they are not reactive like a healing power from an empath but they can be used and last for a sometime even when the pets are not damaged. Will this cover the pets I do not know.
Regarding Time...
I know with Traps you need to cast FFG every 4 minutes minimum. With Time you need to cast Farsight every 2 minutes. On a personal note I know I usually remember to cast FFG just after it explodes and I go oh crap. That is usually followed by a Poison Trap and then resummoning FFG. The difference is FFG is up every 10 seconds. To get Farsight up all the time you will need to get perma Hasten and then you need to remember to cast it every 2 minutes.
On top of all of this you need enough aggro to keep the mobs attention. On regular mobs you should be fine but holding EB and AV aggro might be another issue. I don't think you have the output to maintain that aggro and I don't honestly know if those debuffs like Time Juncture produce aggro or enough aggro with Taunt to keep a AV on you. I know Trip mine and Provoke are good enough to keep the attention of an AV.
I think as well with Time your more making sure all the bells and whistles are working instead of just getting into the fight with Traps. Meaning Time crawl active... Check, Temporal mending active... Check, Temporal selection active... Check.
Basically I feel with Time your more looking to protect yourself then fight. Which is why I think Traps does so well. Your laying down an item that is going to hurt a bad guy. Even Caltrops is very good at what it does.
Here is a Time build which is not range capped by 2%, but lets pretend it is. So your range capped and then when mobs move in they become aoe and melee capped via Time Juncture. But look at the cost of getting something like that. Granted its not the best build as it was tossed together to get some defense numbers. But you don't have that much leeway with the powers and sets. You could remove hell on earth for something else set bonus wise and maybe put Time stop 4 slotted with Basilisk gaze for the range defense bonus.

Quote:I don't know about that, you would have to do something to keep them alive. Once they are dead your doomed. They really are work especially with the broken AI since first implemented.Almost any MasterMind is a great slacker AT. Sit back and let your minions do all the work.
As for the OP question.
I am sort of thinking of what your saying along the lines of when I might also fall asleep at the computer when I have aggro. My most success of survivability has been a 6 slotted Health blaster ranged cap and hovering. Mobs are limited to range attacks and depending on how far away you are they might even be limited even to more longer attacks. Simple example crey fire farm. If you hover in the elevator banks towards the ceiling fire breath is limited.
Some sort of Blaster with EM secondary which again is a range cap hover blaster. With EM secondary you can also pick up Aid Self. So your really limiting yourself to Aim, Build Up and Boost range from EM.
Also a Arachnos Hunstman build with double assault and maneuvers, again range cap hover blaster style with Perma pets. We are talking 4 attacks maybe that do really good damage and the pets are really nothing to complain about at all.
I don't know what you would consider work in traps. FFG is on for a while. Your dropping poison traps and caltrops maybe. You can ignore trip mine if you must. Even seeker drones can be ignored. With an SO build your pretty much half way if not more to defense cap. So your eating 1 or 2 purple inspirations to cap out. Then your just messing around with your primary attacks.
Mind you I am thinking higher settings with these builds 2/8 or 3/8. If the discussion is just 0/1 setting then anything is fine. -
7 years ago it was good.
There were not temp fly powers.. In zones like fault line you were very happy to have it. Even in firebase zulu setting. You understood its limitation and worked with them but it helped out. Nutshell it was useful but the developers made other things more useful and failed to keep this power and even several sets up to date with the game. Again being a new game it was fun to fly around sometimes. -
Group fly is probably only a solo power. In a group causing people to fly will tend to upset them for several reasons.
1. They just don't to fly.
2. Thematically it does not go well for them and they feel your imposing your thematic ideas on their toons
3. Power that require you to be on the ground actually are screwed up because the person is flying now.
4. Decreased travel speed.
With group fly you do fly faster then the other people effected by it which will cause them to drop when you get out of range. Basically it is the same group fly from 7 years ago minus the Hit penalty
