Each episode was pretty much stand-alone with no overall plot until the very end of the series. The entire show was literally filled with "filler" episodes.
It's been a long while since I've watched Bebop, but it's always been at the top of my list for anime. As the series goes on, it reveals the different layers to the characters, growing them and making them more interesting. It touches on a lot of subjects that I found interesting as well. There's so much variety from simple action episodes to very emotive ones such as revealing Faye's background.
  2. Controllers and doms are my favorite AT's. Aside from a single mastermind, all my other 50's are one or the other.

Mind Control is my favorite control set and I really enjoy /Storm as a secondary. I've never paired the two however.
  3. Just a brief notion that came to mind: what if the Anti-Matter Pulse knocked off a percentage of your remaining health rather than a percentage of your total health? One of my pet peeves with this trial is suffering a near knockout from an enemy only to be finished off by the pulse before I can heal.

Oh, but they do. Have you ever played a PnP game with someone that threw out the rule book? It's akin to playing pretend with a child who insists on winning. It isn't fun for anyone but the game master and those they've decided to cater to. I'll admit there's room for leeway, especially when it errs on the the side of fun.

Also lets be honest a couple cold shields and everyone has the same defense which is another reason why we need untyped damage. I monitor my defense in case I'm debuffed on my s/l/e/r capped blaster, all defenses were hard capped at 175% 90% of the trial so really my IOd build was getting hit just as often as everyone else.

I'm glad they made things more difficult at baseline instead of just giving the options to make us weaker during task forces. I honestly want more difficult content.
IMO, they made a disastrous mistake when they made ally shields affect all allies without any consideration towards balance. Soft-capping, even soft-capping to the Itrial standards, isn't difficult with a few buffers in the league. As such, they won't worry much about taking measures to circumvent those levels of defense.

I'll agree with THB. There are exotic damage types that should be utilized for some of these effects. A nuclear reactor seems like a fine place to use energy and toxic damage.
  6. Oracle would be number one on my list. I have a few friends that are upset about her reboot as well.

True, however, the prominence of many of these names has changed as well as how they are perceived in geek culture.

Certainly, there are names that have been prominent throughout all of geekdom, Excalibur, for instance. And several of these legendary weapons have some historical counterpart they derive from. However, was Muramasa or Masamune a common name during the 60's or 70's at the height of PnP gaming's popularity? It's easy to say that these names were well known to a 90's kid like myself via their presence in hallmark games like Castlevania and Final Fantasy.

Anyway, the general point that I have not so clearly communicated is this: geek culture is multi-faceted and ever changing.

This is not Sparta... this is madness.
CC's as rude is a pretty far stetch... however, the notion that they will be less fun is sound.

Being dubbed the best costume isn't much of an incentive for standing around for 10-20 minutes. As the CoH economy has grown so have CC prizes, demonstrating that one must offer something worthwhile in exchange for others' time. For free players, the incentive to participate is greatly decreased. For the judges the frustration is increased when they see a really nice costume and have little means to reward that creativity.

If they'd lift the rather harsh limitations on inspirations, I would at least fill up a freebie winner with lots of super inspirations or holiday ones.
  9. One of those "You don't geek how I how so you're not a geek" arguments brewing in here... Looking at it objectively, you'll see it's just a matter of generational differences. Some of you older folks are going to be much more familiar with PnP and the literature it stemmed from, while the youngsters are going to draw more from video games which in turn often draw from Japanese history and myths.

But even if they win, the inability to trade means they can't collect their prize. So it really puts a damper on the fun for some of the participants and the judges alike.

An added benefit for NCSoft would be that it would slow down players progress to 50, and prolong subscription times.

The problem still stands that it creates an inconsistent set of rules. Admittedly, there are several of these in game already (unresistable damage, auto-hit powers, mag 5000 holds) and they generally fall against the players' favor. Of course, all those things irk me as well.

Why? Well, it makes an important part of the tutorial, i.e. learning things null and void. And what part of an MMO is more important, besides XP, then getting your face kicked in and finding out how hospitals work?

Getting beaten up happens. It sometimes happens a lot. I'm not one of the 'I love Debt!' brigade, but I do think there is a place you have to draw the line, and this is getting to it. I know already people seem to be totally ignorant of 'aggro range' and the like.

    Just...yeah, no. No thanks.
Agreed. There's also the problem that the tutorials gives a false impression of power by fighting these epic monsters (because to me they look quite powerful and have destroyed an entire city zone) without faltering, only to minutes later enter the city proper and be dropped by some simple thugs. Setting up for that kind of disappointment isn't a good idea.
  13. I tip my hat to Local Man, Enantiodromos, Oedipus_Tex,and magicJ. I started out playing controllers and their guides, answers to questions, and guidance to other players all helped me fine my way in a complex AT. So if any of you happen to read this, thanks.

(I assume this is what you mean by "Fluffy stacks" as you can only have one DS at a time.) While Thermal may have a better duration/down time ratio on Heat Exhaustion, it also has more difficulty building for recharge than Dark. These two factors, I think, would let Dark pull ahead of Thermal in terms of -regen.
  16. Wyatt is correct. The interface powers won't proc in powers that don't cause damage, meaning Confuse, Mass Hypnosis, and Mass Confusion will all remain aggro free. The reason that reactive is avoided is due to the damage in Mesmerize where it will proc and wake any target you just put to sleep.

Yes and no. It will make a roll when you cast creepers and can proc at the point. Once the creepers are summoned, they can roll the proc with their knockdown powers; however, pets are immune to recharge so they gain no benefit from it.

    Cause that would be sweet.

    Multiple Gang Wars?
Dark Servant doesn't stack. It will replace the old one. I'm not sure about soul extraction.

I could see a Stormie taking advantage of this to throw out an extra T-storm and Tornado.
  19. On the dom side of things, Fiery, Energy, and Psi assault all get their snipes at 35. Electric assault gets the lackluster Voltaic Sentinel at 38. I could see any of those sets taking advantage of earlier APP's.

Definitely not in the case of Force Fields. Sonic could gain a little wiggle room too. (If I recall correctly, sonic gets clarity at 35.) I could even see /TA or /rad putting of EM Pulse and EMP Arrow in favor of getting damage earlier. Heck, an Earth/TA probably has enough control without EMP Arrow that I would consider skipping it in favor of some APP powers.

I think Doms are going to grab a nice bit from this as well, especially those that have a snipe coming at 35.

Of course, you could plan ahead to provide targets for Eclipse/mires, but that requires your teammates cooperate in leaving them alive (perhaps at the expense of their own safety).

How's this? Every power is situational. Obviously, you don't use a heal when your health is full. You don't use AoE's when only a single target is surviving. In sayomh that Eclipse is situational, THB is communicating that Eclipse is more situational than the comparable power in Light Form.

Scenario 1: Eclipse is recharged. There is only one enemy currently alive.
Scenario 2: Eclipse is recharged. There are 18 enemies tightly grouped.

Obviously, the second scenario makes for better use of eclipse and the mires as using it on one enemy hampers its effectiveness. A peacebringer with the new Light Form can utilize it without losing effectiveness. Because there is a preferred situation for the use of Eclipse, one could call it situational.

Of course, that's all arguing semantics. I thought THB was being fairly clear when he stated that it required pre-existing conditions and related risks.

The respec trials, Holiday missions, regular TFs... all perfectly explicable, but the iTrials are like little kids playing soccer: they all clump up in one area, someone kicks the ball away and they run en masse to where the ball is.
I would have to disagree on the hero respec trial. The information is there, but it's just as buried as information in the iTrials, if not more so. The key hunt, the proximity bombs, the shields, and coolant are all things that aren't so intuitive. I recall how poorly I did on my first respec and, more recently, explaining how things worked to a friend that joined the game. I have not done the redside respec but do recall some grumbling from sg-mates a while ago how difficult it was to get people to coordinate in taking down the vines. Perhaps it is because these things are old and well treaded that they seem more intuitive.
