Smal I21 Note to Keep in Mind Regarding APP Powers

I just read this today on the open beta boards and wanted to share in case you haven't seen it:

Quote:
Epic and Patron Power Pools adjustments
Tier 1 or 2 Powers are now available at level 35
Tier 3 or 4 Powers are now available at level 41
Tier 5 Powers are now available at level 44
Of the various ATs I think this probably affects Controllers the most, because it means APP blasts and AoEs are available somewhat earlier, rather than waiting until 41. Late blooming sets are in less of a position to take advantage of it.

I believe this also makes it possible to take all 5 APP powers, and to 6 slot more liberally than before.

Good info. Thanks for posting it.

I wish I could make Mids work on a Mac so I could start exploring the possibilities...

I wish I could program on a Mac so I could make a version of Mids.

Agh the torture.

I'll have to load everything on a USB and waste a day standing around BestBuy "testing" a laptop.

The things I do for all my Alts.

It comes at the expense of your best secondary powers, though...

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

It depends really. In the case of my Illusion/Storm and Fire/Rad they got their best secondary powers aaaaages before level 35.

Some of my Domis are in the same boat, my Fire Assault and NRG Assualt gain from it much more from this compared to my Thorny Assault one.

There's apparently a freespec coming with Issue 21 anyway to reflect this change and the expanded Travel Pools.

Definitely not in the case of Force Fields. Sonic could gain a little wiggle room too. (If I recall correctly, sonic gets clarity at 35.) I could even see /TA or /rad putting of EM Pulse and EMP Arrow in favor of getting damage earlier. Heck, an Earth/TA probably has enough control without EMP Arrow that I would consider skipping it in favor of some APP powers.

I think Doms are going to grab a nice bit from this as well, especially those that have a snipe coming at 35.

My wife went out and bought herself a Mac because all of her snooty writer friends said that they were better. Every time I her her complain about things that she can't do on her Mac, I have to hold in the laughter and I-told-you-so comments . . .

As for the news . . . more choice is always good. Choking Cloud is skippable on lots of Rad builds (but not Fire/Rad, Elec/Rad or Ice/Rad), and EM Pulse could easily be postponed. It won't help Kin or Cold. Most of the others have a power that could be skipped or postponed to fit in an Epic earlier.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Fallout and Black Hole both come at 35, I'd certainly prefer an Ancillary Pool power over either of those. And Traps has Detonator/Time Bomb at 38.

On the dom side of things, Fiery, Energy, and Psi assault all get their snipes at 35. Electric assault gets the lackluster Voltaic Sentinel at 38. I could see any of those sets taking advantage of earlier APP's.

Choking Cloud? Isn't it Fallout at 35?

You can also take all 5 APP powers. My Mind/Time SO build on beta has all 5 powers from the Primal APP.

The idea of Ice Elec and Fire trollers with early access to Indom Will is also pretty huge to me. It might even be possible to make near-perma builds for exemping.

It's not my fault! My HP died after 2 years (POS)... So to save money I just use the wife's Mac... Since I purchased the Mac version and all ... For the in-game perks. And after buying a new house..., and I mean just now; close tomorrow morning, my budget is curtailed for a while buying the things necessary around the home; new flat screen 55"-60" and the surround sound to go with it... And then the pool.

Until all that... I suffer on a Mac.

I feel your wife's pain.

Yes, dumb me . . . I wasn't thinking. Fallout is skippable on almost all Rads. Sometimes fun to have, but skippable.

OK, I understand being on a tough budget. My Asus Laptop is still going strong after 2.5 years, but those new ones sure look purty.

She is not feeling the Mac pain . . . she is in denial. She's convincing herself that the Mac is the greatest thing ever . . . regardless of the evidence.

The worst part is that her Mac didn't work well on our old wireless router, so she had to go out and buy a new Apple one. Ever since then, about twice an evening, my happy little Asus machine (still running Vista without problems) will inexplicably disconnect from the Internet for about 20 seconds. Grrr. Crappy Apple stuff.

So you know if the Mac has an intel processor you can use bootcamp to dual boot the mac into windows. All you really need is the license key off that dead HP computer for windows. The bootcamp does a sort of partition magic and you can select how big you want your windows side to be.

I do computer forensics and our office uses mac a lot. I run my tools in a VM on the mac side as well. But not all tools work in a VM for licensing issues so I need windows from time to time as well.

which brings me to my next option. Stay on the mac side and use VMware Fusion to install a version of windows on your mac side in a VM session. That is what I do to use MIDs. Just remember to save your builds out side the VM. The VM can get corrupted from time to time and I did loose some of my builds because I had to revert to a previous snap shot.

BTW great info from the OP. I might have to rework a bunch of builds myself now.

That ^^

(re: Intel Mac's) Bootcamp is bundled and free, and will even download the windows based control panel to keep the mac-centric buttons in line. Just source a copy of your old installation media and have at it. You can always get an iso online as well (nothing tampered/modified, just a clean image of the OS you have they OEM key for) if you cannot locate your install discs. If your machine is stout, Fusion is hard to beat for having both OS's live simultaneously.

Doesn't it seem that exploding your dead teammate's body is not exactly, well, heroic? It fits in well with Villains, but not Heroes.

I don't explode them. I use their body as a conduit to a nether realm. What?

As a mostly soloist, I skip all three.

If I'm going to pick any power to use on a corpse, it's going to be a rez. People do faceplant sometimes, and rezzing them can turn the tides in a fight.
