  1. /Ela has always been my favorite set to play for going on 5 years in game now.

As others have said it is a set that tends to shine in the end game. Many of the big pains for other sets such as end drain and -recharge /Ela just gets to laugh off.

If you survive the alpha strike of a group you should win the engagement. You hop in, hit power sink, cycle your AOE's on hand and then hit power sink a 2nd time and then Energize. You are not back at at least 1/2 health and the few baddies that are left are drained of end and you are as safe as any toon in the game.

Now surviving that alpha is the trick. Against most mobs in the end game this is not a problem period. For the few times a group may be to strong you can always eat some skittles or layer in some IO def bonus

    My Brute Sucks?

This is only my second KM/INV brute build. The other one was villain side.

Mind you the toon is only a level 31 now and not completely IO'd. This alone won't make my toon suck! With a team fully aggravating Sky Raiders constantly while the two melee toons have to mitigate damage. This was the second mission (first one most of the other toons, minus us two melee toons kept dying and this was just a defeat 20 Sky Raiders mission lmao).

I know this is a rant, but I just had to get this out. Since it was a cheap shot at my build and AT I felt it necessary to say something. I asked team leader what he had it set to and he totally ignored me. So I left after someone told me my brute (not just my toon, but the build itself) sucked. He, of course, was not a melee toon. And no the melee toon is not a friend of mind. I do know we were the ones doing less of the aggravating of the Sky Raiders while the other squishy toons wanted to aggro. and the healer couldn't heal any better than a hospital volunteer.
I can only speculate since I was not there but telling the leader that his respec trial was moving to slow was likely the cause of him shooting back a "Your Brute sucks" comment your way.

You can see what the missions are set to in your mission list window for all players. I like to check it before any team gets started so I know what I'm getting into before things get rolling.

Did the whole team disband or were you the only one to leave?

Oh and calling people a "Healer" around here is just about the biggest insult you can whip out to any support player.

Sorry you had a bad experience, and hope your future trials and task forces go much smother.

Fire has 2 great heals, some amazing team buffs, and a pair of EEEEVIL enemy debuffs for when the AVs show up. Don't worry about throwing buffs on every MM pet, that will make you crazy in no time. Instead, keep buffs on each player and the MM's biggest bot. Learn to keep buffing between fights, and that leaves you free to throw fire throughout every fight, only pausing to heal when your party is looking shaky. 3 slot hover so you can position yourself above the bot-mob and hit all of them.
/Elec has energize which will heal for around 45% of your health and buff your regen for 30 seconds after that. It is far from the best self heal in the game but it is a self heal.

Op I would go with a fire/cold corr. Between your ice shields, frost works, bubbles from the bots and a ffg from the MM that brute is going to be as tough as just bout anything in the game.

With that team make up the AOE carnage would just melt spawns for ya

Well my theory would run thusly: We have in general such a nice and upstanding group of forum goers that for the Trolls to get their needs filled they are forced to necro post.

There just isn't enough derision or spite in the day to day posts to feed them.

Minor nitpick/threadjack but Ice has the best taunt aura. Chilling embrace fires off every .5 seconds with a mag 4 taunt Invuln and Shield have theirs each fire off a mag 4 taunt once a second.
  6. Fire/Traps is a lot of fun. You get mez protection, massive debuff of regen, good debuff of resist, area denial, and the chance to really have some fun with proc's.

Taking hover is a big help as when hovering the rooted portion of the trap animations is reduced greatly. You have to be very close to the ground but it does work
  7. I am under the impression that in Oro the same drop rules apply as in other areas of the game. If this is wrong then I'm just sharp as a bag of wet hair and we can all just move along and forget I even typed the rest of this post.

I loaded up Serpent Drummers "Dreams of Peace and Acts of War" story arc in Oro last night on a level 50 Brute. I ran the arc thru 4 missions all set at +1x8. I cleared each mission of all enemies.

I was able to get drops of Inspirations, salvage, influence and even bonded two incarnate shards but was unable to get one recipe to drop.

Not a single plain IO recipe or a set recipe. I have 10 slots open in my recipe inventory so I know that wasn't the problem.

Normally I have to delete trash recipe drops or vendor things after each mission, at the most every two missions. Playing solo x8 tends to fill up the inventories rather quickly.

Is this just a case of the coldest streak in history on the RNG or perhaps a glitch of some sort?

I say Stone Melee, because I haven't heard of someone soloing an AV with it.
Seen videos of Dark Melee, and a couple other scrapper primaries doing as such but not much about Stone Melee.
From my little knowledge of the subject, DM is capable because of the self-heal and maybe the debuffs?

So again, how would you solo an AV with Stone Melee? (With temps, and insps.)
Well if your using temps and insps then its really trivial to solo just about any AV on just about any toon.

    1. Go get the Shivan shard temp power from bloody bay
    2. Go grab a Warburg rocket or 3.
    3. Fight your way to your AV of choice.
    4. Summon the Shivan
    5. Drop the nuke(s)
    6. Yawn while the Shivan kills the AV, maybe get bored and throw a Seismic Smash out there to feel useful .

Just wanted to chime in on "Replier Emails" the last time I had an email get lost the response from the GM was that the reason the email got lost was the reply string had got to long and this was a known issue with the email system. I never let my reply string get longer than 3 uses now then start over. Haven't had an issue since.
  10. While both are going to be fun they both peak in very different areas.

For farming, especially solo farming where the inspirations rain down like candy the SS/FA is hard to beat. Footstomp plus a patron AOE fueled by Rage+Fury+FE is just something awesome to behold when it comes to making whole spawns melt.

On the other hand without heavy IO investment you are probably going to want to get reigned to the fact that RotP is part of your attack chain in the end game where exotic damages fly fast and furious.

For end game PVE content /Elec is very nice to play. The Rikti are something to laugh at. Sappers, EMP grenades, Carnie death aura's and Mu can largely be put to the back of your mind. With the right IO's /Elec can get just about as sturdy as anything.

I'm just hitting my 30s and inadvertently it seems as though my build is very specialized for single boss/lieutenant fights and seems to get overwhelmed against large white conning mobs of minions and has some severe endurance problems as well. I just don't think i can get past the combination of slow EM animations and the lack of any real AoE until 49 though i know a couple of well slotted procs would handle the endurance problem easily.

So first of all, if you were me, would you re-roll?

Second of all, what primary/secondary/ancillary sets would you recommend? My goals are for a well balanced build who can solo without tons of IO requirements (i am a little on the poor side...5 sets of Kinetic Combat are not within my grasp currently) and will most likely be a praetorian to blue side build.

I know i'm asking a lot, but if you have any mid's builds you can post or PM me that would be great too. I wouldn't ask, but clearly I need some help from the experts.

    Thanks,

First of all welcome back to the game.

My main for the 1st few years I was here was a EM/ELA brute and I loved it to death.

That being said he is now retired and rerolled. Todays game is just to much about large spawns and fast movement to enjoy him anymore.

You can still have a lot of fun with EM/ELA. EM is great against hard targets on TF's and /ELA tends to shine in the end game where you run into large amounts of exotic damage types.

If you want a good balance of AOE goodness along with great ST for EB/AV's then FM is hard to beat but you don't get any soft control.

Super Strength is another good option with /ELA if you can deal with the Rage crash for some people its no big deal for others they can't stand to play the set due to it.
  13. Best of luck in what ever you choose to do next.

Thats the normal standard for these kind of things. Full tray of Insp to show you didn't use any and a shot of the AV with a targeting reticle and window to show con level and rank.

Grats on your defeats it is fun feeling that powerful

(farm, not play) 2) buy in game cash from china illegally.

So, the Devs have set up this situation. the Devs need to fix it. Most people want to spend 3-6 months on one toon, and have something way cool to show for it. if the Devs do not get that then they need to have a serious conference style think tank day.
I have a SO'ed SS/FA brute that can hit 600k a min on a farm. He can Cap tickets in 5min. He is by no means a high end fast farmer. I can hit a Billion in Inf alone on him in a week. Just farming him for around an hour a day. Once I start turning tickets into rolls then I can hit the inf cap in less than a week.

I have a FM/WP brute that is frankenslotted out, total cost on her around 300mil. She brings in around .5billion a week in cash on 90min a day play time. Only run tips with her. I sell her HV merit rolls for a conservative average of another .5 billion a week.

Those two toons can easily fund every other toon I can possibly ever want to make even if I only played them half as often as I do now.

Honestly just keeping your HV merits until you hit 50 then rolling them and selling ought to put you to the cap several times and you should be able to Purple out to your hearts content.

I'm sorry to hear the game and the economy have lost their luster for you. I hope a little time away lets you recall what you liked about the game in the 1st place and that you return to the fold and have as much fun again as when you 1st started playing

Your missing something super easy like most mobs doing a portion of their damage as either Smashing or Lethal.

I don't recall the exact portion of all attacks anymore but it is a very large majority of the attacks used in the game that fall into this category.

For me, I had an Ice/EM tank that was my first 50 (i5). He was my absolute favorite toon. Since the nerf, I haven't been able to play it. EM is godawful today. I respeced my good IOs out of him, and banished him to the server of misfit toons...It's a really sad story, and no happy ending.
My 1st 50 was a EM/ELA brute. I liked it from 1-32 then I got the old ET and I fell in love with it. The old "Dim Mak" touch of death animation was just awesome, and when you laid into a boss at full fury with TF followed by a lightning quick ET it just felt awesome.

I couldn't get into playing him again until just recently, it just felt weak compared to what he was before. Then I took him out of mothballs to run some SF's to help out some friends and I saw where EM still really shines.

Laying out tons of damage against a few hard targets. Against level 52+ bosses and AV's you almost never get that wasted damage feeling from your ET or TF landing on a dead corpse... I don't run Gelik as much as I used to but at least he found a niche to be fun again.

    This more than anything else.

The way that BA will cause things to bunch and stay bunched for brutes gives it an edge that is hard to quantify on paper but when you actually start farming in game you can see the results.

I like to take that a step further and start slotting multi IO's as early as 16 to really take the edge off of leveling up. That is about the point that I can start getting a feel for a toon.

Though I never really know whether a new toon is going to be worth the long haul until around level 30 when you have just about all the toys your going to need to go play in the sandbox

    Fast leveling

Well since your Brute is SS/SD your doing almost all Smashing damage

So finding a group that takes more damage from smashing damage and farming them in a mission is going to increase your leveling speed.

Culex was kind enough to do the leg work and put out a spreadsheet with resistance values for almost all the baddies in the game that is available here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=115749

A quick look shows hydra taking 1.5 damage from smashing. Doing 1.5 times as much damage in each hit is going to allow you to fight larger spawns of higher level foes and get the most out of the time you do have available to play.

    Breathe of Fire

Any one else think this power could maybe use a passover?

The short range of 15 feet with the tiny cone at 30 degrees just makes the power lackluster.

I always thought it was odd that the power has such a low base recharge at 10 seconds. Is BoF intended to be a Shadow Maul typer power, an AOE that you normally hit only 1 or 2 mobs with but can be used on a ST without making your head hurt for wasted end?

I could be happy trading 5 seconds of recharge base for say 5 feet of range base and 15 degrees of cone increase.

    Any thoughts?
  25. can't look at the moment since im away from the pc and posting from a phone...

I would think that your use of the words "nerf"and "Martial Arts"in the same post ought to be enough to trigger an Arcanaville summon and this ought to be cleared up shortly.
