Team Corruptor Advice
Ok, as someone who has a level 50 mastermind, you will find that they do a lot more damage than you think. I've heard running a mastermind as powerleveling yourself and have to agree. They can do lots of damage. The infamous Ultimus used to solo AVs with his bots MM and that takes being able to dish it out.
But I have a similar problem. I made a fire/dark corrupter to solo. But when running with friends I had a hard time integrating the two experiences. As a solo player I wanted to set things up just so to maximize scourge. But with a team things move too quickly to be fully optimized. So you have to find ways to be more of a team player and support the qualities of the other ATs.
For example a Brute will want lots of aggro. This is good and you can just center all your attacks on them as they will typically have gathered all the enemies up into a nice bunch for your AoE attacks.
Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind
OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!
I was in the same boat as you, Wife wants to play melee, RL Friend 1 wants to play a MM and RL Friend 2 wants to play a Brute so I was suck as the "healer" type which I dont mind I picked Fire as well b/c well...I like fire.
Now you need some healing as a secondary....
Nice buffage specially adding damage is great right?
How about adding 50% recharge to your friends to make there powers come back?
Debuffing Damage on a enemy is nice too specially 20% aoe and a stacking 20% to a single target...
Oh some Spd for yerself so you can fly/run faster and have a faster recharge maybe even save a power and grab a aoe super jump...
Dont forget fulling up your teamates endo so they dont need to stop is great as well...
But what secondary has all this you say?
Kin my friend Kin
I love my Fire/Kin Corrupter and so does my wife and friends as I add every fight at least 200% to there damage and +50% to there Recharge along with a sick aoe heal and aoe Endo heal(works on yerself also). The more mobs the more damage % you can add up and its easy to cap out the damage. Only Issue I have with my Corrupter is Mez specially Stun and Sleep but as your friend is a Trap MM he has FF Generator which gives ya Stun protection and sleep is not to bad as when you get hit you are freed.
Not having a Rez is not a issue also as there are Temp powers you can craft and a Daily Job that gives you charges of it. Also the AoE heal is more then most Single Target heals and its on a 8s recast, only issue is it has to hit a mob and does the aoe heal around him which I find great as I am normally in the mix as well as most of the ppl I need to keep alive.
Once you go Kin you dont go back(maybe for dark but its a hard choice)
Dark is an awesome choice, for nearly every situation. I've played Dark Miasma on every AT that can take it, and it's always nice to have.
Other options for powerset include Kin (already got a booster for that, and the brute will love brute crack, also known as Speed Boost), and while not everybody likes it, Thermal is a nice set. It's got a good mix of heals, shields, and debuffs, meaning you will have plenty of time in combat to blast since you'll shield beforehand and drop the debuffs pretty quick.
For solo, A Fire/Dark is one of the monsters of the game. I don't think it would be able to solo an AV, but it's got loads of crowd control, group debuffs, and even throws in healing, rezzing, and a pet.
It works well for teams, also. Howling Twilight is the single best team rez in the game. If your MM and Brute both bite it, then you can bring 'em both back to life at once. Your AoE damage will also come in handy. Everything that makes a Fire/Dark good solo also makes it good for teams, and them some.
Sonic/Rad is another potential choice, if you're worried about damage. Radiation Debuffs, AM, Mutation, EMPulse, and lovely -Resistance debuffs from your Sonic Primary. You'll do less damage than a Fire/Dark, or even a Fire/Rad, but those extra /Rad debuffs will work well with your MM's /Traps powers to turn EBs and AVs into mulch.
There's always Fire/Kin, as well. High damage, loads of team buffs, and travel powers that are built into the kinetics set. I love my Fire/Kin. Buff, Kill, heal if you have to, repeat.
Ice/Ice Corrs are still monstrous, too. Not enough healing to suit my taste, but you can toughen up your friends with ice shields and Frostwork and do some serious debuffing with Sleet, Benumb, and Heat Loss. The AoEs will be a little bit weaker, but you have a Bots MM and an Elec/Elec Brute for that.
Fire or Sonic/Pain would allow you to throw out lots of healing, which your brute might need for a little while. It also has some nice buffs for the team AND for you, yourself. Fire Blast as the primary would let you do more straight damage when not healing, but Sonic/Pain would let you use Howl and other powers that lower enemy resistance.
I don't see any problems with your GF or friend's choices, by the way. Elec/Elec Brutes deal plenty of damage, and are relatively sturdy (and you could always just softcap its s/l defense...). Bots/Traps MMs are the swiss-army Masterminds of the game, which you'll see as soon as you hit a rough patch and s/he begins throwing down Acid Mortars, Poison Traps, and Seeker Drones. Being a Corrupter, you should especially appreciate Force Field Generator, which gives mez protection as well as a healthy chunk of defense.
Too many alts to list.
I'd go with Fire/Thermal with that group makeup. Your brute lacks a self-heal, and triage beacon is no great shakes. Fire has 2 great heals, some amazing team buffs, and a pair of EEEEVIL enemy debuffs for when the AVs show up. Don't worry about throwing buffs on every MM pet, that will make you crazy in no time. Instead, keep buffs on each player and the MM's biggest bot. Learn to keep buffing between fights, and that leaves you free to throw fire throughout every fight, only pausing to heal when your party is looking shaky. 3 slot hover so you can position yourself above the bot-mob and hit all of them.
In a team many times people lose track of what a Fire/Dark brings to the table.
Let the tank/brute take the alpha - Fear the group - drop tarpit - drop rain of fire and move to the NEXT group use darkest night on a boss and bring the NEXT group or 2 back to the first tarpit.
By this time FEAR is up again. Rain of Fire is up again and so is Tarpit. Howling Twilight is the single most misused power in the dark arsenal.
Howling Twilight:
Slows
Disorients all minions
Causes Bosses and Lts to flee
Does small damage
Is a mass Rez
Slows Regeneration by 500%
I use it every single time it is up. I slot it (prior to IO's) 3 recharge, 2 disorient, 1 slow and you have it available every 3rd group roughly.
Look at what your Dark powers do:
Tarpit - a mass slow and a 30% -resistance - you do 30% MORE DAMAGE
Fearsome stare - up to 17% -to hit and of course a mass fear
Grasp Heal - 50% -regen and good heal
Darkest Night - -To hit and it is ranged and can be used to herd and pull
Dark Servant - heals, holds (slot +2 mag hold IO and hold Arch Villains)
In a team most folks don't realize your heal is the least of your powers. Your debuffs are so very powerful that you can make the team into a steamroller.
Doing the Lady Grey last night and in the rescue 2 psychics mission - I stayed at the door with 5 others as the other 3 went to get the 2 captured and let them be defeated. For a few shard drops I went to the Rikti and was fearing, dropping darkest night on the mezzers, tarpit and Howling twilight and by myself I completely cleared the first floor getting 3 shards drops on an 8 man team.
I carry 3 or 4 break frees, 5 or 6 purples, 2 greens and the rest blues in my inspiration tray.
I went fire dark, but now I am going to have to play around with kin! grumble grumble, yet ANOTHER toon. Thanks everyone for all the info.
I am playing a dark/ice with the GF, and we are in our late 30s. I hate the lack of damage, but I really appreciate the fact that nothing gets to touch her that I don't want to get to her.
I think in retrospect, playing a defender, we would have this on extreme easy mode, losing damage for control.
As it is, we can lay down a whole pile of hate, and things die sickeningly easy. If we pull an extra group, or are hitting +2 mobs, things can get a little dicey, and I miss a lot of the control that my defender has. All my dark powers just work better, being the primary. On the plus side, I have FIRE!! LOTS and LOTS of FIRE!!!
:-)

Op I would go with a fire/cold corr. Between your ice shields, frost works, bubbles from the bots and a ffg from the MM that brute is going to be as tough as just bout anything in the game.
With that team make up the AOE carnage would just melt spawns for ya
Global: @Kelig
I love my fire/cold toon, it is awesome, powerful and insanely fun at level 50. The shields are nice too as you can drop them on your pals and then just go to town blasting. That said it matures really late, until you get sleet at 35 you are going to draw a lot of aggro, but since you team a lot you should be fine. You can also pick up aid other and with some slotting really reduce down time for your team.
Another option is always storm, you get a single target heal and for a team of 3 it works pretty well with some slotting. The controls are decent but the big draw is freezing rain at 16, this single power turns you into a pretty decent controller and lets you open fights if you want.
Kin is awesome but man oh man is spamming Speed boost painful, very click heavy and hurts my hands to play.
Fire is my favorite primary by far great damage aoe/single target and awesome graphics I just never get tired of it.
I say fire/storm, I really want to recommend fire/cold because it is so much fun at level 50 but the heal from storm and early freezing rain is really going to save your gf's brute a lot of pain (electric is all resistance so it gets hit alot and hard).

I played COh from when it started to just before Villians came out. And now I am back.
I am starting a 3 person team with two friends, and we are tentatively playing every weekend. A buddy of mine is playing a robot/traps mastermind, and my GF is playing an elec/elec brute. She is very inexperienced, and the mastermind is not a power player. We are all very new to all the new features/crafting.
I am looking to play a corruptor. My only 50 is a blaster, and as much as I love the defender I am playing solo, it feels like it takes forever to kill anything. A corrupter looks awesome mix of both!
I really like the effects of fire as a primary. The little patches of fire look so cool. I just wish the scorch marks hung around a lot longer. I am not tied to it if someone can convince me that something else works better in a group.
My question is what you all think would make a good secondary. I am thinking dark, as it is so easy to keep things feared, unable to hit, and held/confused. A couple of the others look really nice with the buffs, but dark seems able to keep the baddies from hurting us. Heck, fearsome gaze alone should put everything on easy mode, not to mention that awesome heal. My brute isn't going to be as tough as a well built brute, and my mastermind isn't going to put out the damage that a serious player is going to put out. So it is left to me to fill in the pieces.
Thoughts about a good team oriented secondary?
Opinions about a better primary?
Thank you all.
