My Brute Sucks?
at 31, you'll be on SO's or Generics anyway. at 33 you can put some Kinetic Combats into it for more S/L defense. 38 you can slot lvl 40 reactives for MORE defense, and should be in the high 30's or so with lil to few baddies in your aura.
People are ignorant on KM and some even ignorant on Invul. I am fully spec'd into the build I posted for you, and while it isnt as bad *** as my WP is, it's still pretty sweet. Don't give up on it.
and btw - I solo'd the "unsolable" trap door (zOMG!) when I got fully slotted out. For all the KM doomsayers and the Trapdoor "have-nots", I guess the build and combo is pretty friggin epic
Do they even make a Brute that can't solo Trapdoor?
And PraetoriaWoman, don't listen to those numbskulls. Keep on going and you're bound to get better teaming experiences.

WARNING: I bold names.
Okay about an hour ago I was on a team where I was one of two melee toons (the other one was a stalker) and one of the people (not the team leader) said my brute sucks. This was after I told them their respec. trial mission was taking way to long to complete. I admit to being an average player (which is why my best builds are brutes anyway). This is only my second KM/INV brute build. The other one was villain side.
Mind you the toon is only a level 31 now and not completely IO'd. This alone won't make my toon suck! With a team fully aggravating Sky Raiders constantly while the two melee toons have to mitigate damage. This was the second mission (first one most of the other toons, minus us two melee toons kept dying and this was just a defeat 20 Sky Raiders mission lmao). I know this is a rant, but I just had to get this out. Since it was a cheap shot at my build and AT I felt it necessary to say something. I asked team leader what he had it set to and he totally ignored me. So I left after someone told me my brute (not just my toon, but the build itself) sucked. He, of course, was not a melee toon. And no the melee toon is not a friend of mind. I do know we were the ones doing less of the aggravating of the Sky Raiders while the other squishy toons wanted to aggro. and the healer couldn't heal any better than a hospital volunteer. |
You can see what the missions are set to in your mission list window for all players. I like to check it before any team gets started so I know what I'm getting into before things get rolling.
Did the whole team disband or were you the only one to leave?
Oh and calling people a "Healer" around here is just about the biggest insult you can whip out to any support player.
Sorry you had a bad experience, and hope your future trials and task forces go much smother.

Now, if they gave reasons, it may be in your interest to figure out from the community if there are power choices that could be different. That's completely up to you, of course. Maybe you like your powers and you're aware of they qualities good or bad. In which case, make some friends with people you've enjoyed teaming with and keep playing with them. Sometimes it's all about having people you can play with, and a build is completely secondary to that.

Who in the world thinks that can't be solo'd?
Thank you guys for the feedback.
Yeah no one told me why my build sucked. No I was not the only one who left. Two left before me during that second mission after being tired of the team wipes. So that went from 8 person mission to a 6 person mission. I said the mission was too slow because it normally didn't take that long. I've done the respec trial at that level before. You guys can give me as many examples as you want for km/inv brutes. A good one for a level 30-40 could help and then a separate one for level 50. That's why I'm saving my vet award respec. You guys are more than welcome to shoot me an invite when I'm in game @Praetoria Woman
Thanks again, and long live Praetoria and Calvin Scott's Resistance!

Also, Kinetic Melee, if you're going to use max level Kinetic Melee's can be slotted earlier than level 33, as they max out at level 35, so you can slot them as early as lvl 32 (thusly lvl 37 for the Reactive Armors as well).
To the OP, you haven't said what your build looks like.
It's one thing not to have Tough/Weave (two powers I'd personally take on an INV), but if you skipped Invincibility, or maybe Temporary Invulnerability, I could see people saying your build sucks.
They may also not have liked it if you skipped Taunt (not sure if you did), but there are people out there who think Brutes should take their taunt power, just as much as they think a Tanker should.
As for KM/INV, it's full of potential awesomeness!

Aye. The build I posted for ya in the other thread is for a leveled build, not a leveling up/exemping build. If you're using that, you might be looking rough.
Post your build you're using now if you can.
Yea, just need to do crazy things like move and change targets to kill trapdoor. Any AT should be able to solo him. If you cannot then it may be build issues, like being a pure emp or something.
He was hell on my Claws/regen even after using the lava to help cut into his regen. Trust me, when he keeps summoning another of his decoys after three attacks it's not even remotely fun to try and solo him. I've soloed pretty much all of the later game EBs and he was likely the most annoying. Did I do it? Yep. Do I want to do it again any time soon? Oh hell no.

Once I figured it out, I wiped all of his duplicates and then started over. Determine when to break off and kill dupes, (I think as the 3rd one was getting summoned). Kill all those, find him, and repeat. The lava didn't really come into play. The duplicates died so fast that I didn't really lose that much progress to regen on the original. *shrug* Maybe you had a bad day with the RNG?
He's more annoying than most of the standard EBs maybe, but only because he has one of the newer wacky powers. There's another guy who sapps your END and turns it into his HP. Can't remember the wacky red text warning that comes with his power. Generally filling his bar and completely emptying yours. He was annoying. Trapdoor was just tedious.
Totally agree with the first part of this. The second part I dunno. I've only tried it on my wm/sd brute, which deals decent dmg. Need decent damage for Trapdoor, not "Hey look at my Pylon time" DPS numbers, but respectable. I guess these days though you can get that out of just about any AT. Time consuming maybe. Unsoloable? Not even close.

I did it, but like you I will NEVER do it again, what a PITA. My scrapper had help
and it was a breeze, My Brute had trouble even with help.
That dang lava seems more of a problem for us than him

Yeah, that was a pain. One thing that made it worse than it needed to be is the present bug that sends ranged pets into melee; I kept almost winning and then my pets would run up to him or a clone and burn in the lava. Then he'd regen while I resummoned and buffed and then killed off the clones that spawned while I was doing that.

I think people got on the trapdoor bus when I used the supposed "Hard to beat without dumbing it down to -1 and getting a team and tons of reds and purps" as an example as what a KM/Invul can do.
My fault. Didn't mean to get this thread derailed from the OP :-/

lol I've soloed him with out changing my fighting level to -1 with a scrapper (DM/SD), Night Widow, Bane, Controller (Ill/Rad) and Blaster (Arch/EM) - He is preety tough cookie though because I have failed to take him down solo with some of my other toons
Fighting Trapdoor on my DM/Fire brute was frustrating at first. The Bifurcations kept spawning in places I had trouble finding, and Trapdoor kept disappearing, forcing me to hunt him down. Then the moron got himself stuck under a ramp in the lava.
As a /Fire brute, I could stand in the lava all day. The fight went pretty quickly after that.

Just soloed him again on my lastest 50 Brute. He lasted all of 45 seconds, maybe a minute. Barring technical difficulties, or leaving your difficulty at +4 level or something silly like that, no Brute should fail to grind this guy all day. The Honoree + Vanguard Boss + Rikti Portal fight was far, far more challenging. But of course I won. I was playing a Brute.
And oh, hey! PraetoriaWoman is a bird now!

Trapdoor is easy for some Ats & builds, and impossible for others. YMMV.
@Praetoria Woman:
Ignore it, at L31 your brute doesn't really even have a build.
At least mine never do.
I don't slot most IO sets until L47.
The people on your team were either comparing you to an equivalent level tanker or a L50 IOd brute.
Of which, you are neither.
Put the people in question on your global ignore list and move on.
If you ever want help slotting your brute for an eventual IO build, post a mids build on the forums and people will help.
I wish I had the courage to tell people that their builds suck. The most I've ever asked is a lvl 40 Fire Dominator without Char (single hold). I asked him why he didn't take it because I know I can't imagine playing a lvl 40 Dominator without it. It was during AE farming madness period so possibly he was power leveled to 40ish.
I didn't kick him out of my team of course. I just thought his build sucked...
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
