  1. Anything that involves the name Paragon reminds me of the game. The same goes for anything that has Pinnacle involved, since that's the server I play on.

Pretty much if anything shares a name with something in the game, I'll think of it.
  2. I've been thinking about what I'd want CoH 2 to be like.

I like some of what Arcanaville said and some of what Steelclaw said.

I like the idea of having a personal city/personal areas to run around in for solo adventures, things that are designed/based around personal choices and impacts. Take the phasing technology and bring it to the next level. This would also let you, say, design your own archvillain or a series of your own villains that would feature into various plots over the course of 1-50 in your personal area. It'd let you have your own statue/hologram like the never-to-be-released mission in i24, but on a more permanent basis.

And I really like the idea of a shared larger city that brings in teaming/the MMO aspect. Where trials and taskforces and teaming all takes place, but it would still have options for soloing as well. And this is where all the GM's would be.

It's a fun idea to consider. I could post something much more detailed but I probably wouldn't add much.
  3. I log on, but it's hard for me to start doing something. I want to level a nature character but I just don't have the motivation. I do a few TF's but it's usually pretty quick.
  4. It'd probably be a challenge to try and recreate Paragon City in SimCity 4...hmm.
  5. Sounds fun. If I'm able, I'll bring along my water/nature corruptor.
  6. This is definitely awesome. I'm glad you posted it here on the boards.
  7. I like the MMO jumping idea as well. Like others have said, it doesn't really matter too much when it's NaNoWriMo, and you know it'd be a fun read!
  8. I reached tier 9 right as Celestial was on it's way out. A shame - I could only afford one of the slots. I was proud for having reached it though. I've also purchased every box - CoH, CoV, and GR.
  9. Dragon Age 2 burned me out a bit when it came out because of how disappointing it was compared to the first game.

Mass Effect 3's ending bummed me way out.

The eventual decline of SWTOR and it's generally un-fun gameplay (to me!) burned me out.

And now that CoH is getting cancelled without so much as an explanation...I'm getting very burned out.

Honestly, the only things I play these days are CoH and Skyrim.

I haven't felt this let down since they cancelled Farscape after the season 4 cliffhanger.

After playing DA1 and ME2, it sort of struck me that they were rehashing the same formulas. The DLC and internet connection to check what was tied to your account was very unappealing. I waited on DA2 and ME3 and was lucky enough to avoid both.

SWTOR on the other hand I didn't get away from because it was given to me as a present. Yep ... had the same sort of story mechanics. Gather your allies and make them like you (and one more than the others) before heading out to the big finale.

It's sad. Bioware RPG's used to be practically instabuy for me.
Personally, I was a huge supporter of Bioware right up to DA2. While the plot was fairly generic and predictable in DA1, I couldn't help myself - I loved the characters and it totally sucked me in. But it's not for everyone.

I also liked Mass Effect 2 a great deal at the end. At first, I wasn't so sure, because the first time I played through it I just spent most of my time being angry at the fact that my old crew wasn't with me and that I had to work with Cerberus. The main plot was pretty weak as well, but the character sidequests - which took up the majority of the game - were interesting enough that I was willing to overlook the other things.

But then DA2 came along, and changed a lot of what I loved about DA1. It was rushed and in the third act you could really tell it was a jumbled, rushed mess. Reusing the same areas over and over and over, never leaving the city...some of the characters were good, but there were some bad ones as well, and they took away one of the characters I liked for about 80% of the game.

And then ME3 came along. It had a rough start, because I didn't like the beginning at all. It was too....not Mass Effect, I guess. Too rushed. I wanted more time with the trial. But then it sucked me up, right up until the end, where it just fell apart so completely, and ruined it so badly (in my opinion!) that I can't even bring myself to replay the first two games yet. It's sad.

I did play SWTOR, since my friend preordered it and I wanted to play with him and some other friends. It...the story was decent, the voice acting was decent, but the gameplay just didn't draw me in at all. I stuck around for the Jedi Knight story though, and especially for the Imperial Agent story - that was something that I think is unlike what Bioware has done in the past. Give me the Imperial Agent story with Mass Effect engine and graphics, and gameplay, and I would be a VERY happy man.

But...yeah. I'm not really looking forward to anything they do in the future. Bioware used to be a 'preorder for sure' company, but now it's a 'wait and see for what others say' company, and even then, I'm not sure I'd trust em.
  11. I'll never forget the first time I played through Praetoria all the way and was blown away.
Or the time I got a Praetorian to 50 without leaving Praetoria to Primal Earth.
Or the time that I managed to get tier 4 on everything Incarnate wise...at least until hybrid came out anyway!
Or the very first time I hit 50.
Or the time I made a matrix-style room in my SG base.
Or the first time I did one of the old school hami raids.

I'll regret not doing any of the shard TF's, even though I know they're long. I'll regret not playing through redside more. I'll regret not being able to come along on a newer hami raid. I'll regret not being one of the ones to get "Really Hard Way."
  12. Likely some random blog just trying to get hits by saying something he knows will get people riled up. Not really worth it.

    1 (10 trecedillion (10^42) costumes)
Wow! I knew it was high, but still. That's why I loved the character creator. Just so many options.
  14. I share your pain. There's no MMO out there right now that could fill the same role as CoH in my eyes. It's a shame.
  15. I plan on keeping my local game installed for a long time, but this has made me realize I really need to back it up.

Really, I love all things writing. And I've been wanting to RP with more people on the server. Looking for any excuse for collaboration.
I'd also be interested in doing something like this. Working on a story with multiple people involved and all that. It sounds like it would be fun. And a nice creative outlet.

I would kill for a modern sandbox superhero video game with a character creator as robust as City of Heroes. I don't think there's a game out there that exists. It's a shame.
  19. I'll never take pleasure in a security breach like that. It's hurting the players who likely legitimately want to play and enjoy the game.
  20. Honestly, NOT being able to do this is one of my biggest gripes about online games. As much as the online community is a thriving part of it, once the servers are down, that's it. There's usually no other way to access the game.
  21. None of my characters are really useable outside of the CoH lore. I mean, if Paragon made a spiritual successor, then yeah, I'd likely use a lot of the same names. But the concepts would undoubtedly be different.

I plan on continuing some of my characters stories through stories of my own, though.
  22. Even if it was totally offline and only solo-able, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

I love teaming and I love the community, but sometimes soloing was fun, and at the very least, I'd like to retain the ability to go onto a character and smash things in the game.
  23. I've always liked Angry Joe's videos. I don't necessarily agree with his viewpoint most of the time, but he's still one of the better reviewers out there. I liked his coverage of the whole Mass Effect 3 ending debacle.
  24. Oh man, I am totally going to miss the sidekick system. I think that was one of the best things I've seen in an online game.

I missed it terribly when I tried out SWTOR.

I like the invention system as well, but it took me a long time to get versed enough in it to crank out good builds - and even then I usually had to rely on a forum template to build off of in order to get something good.

I liked the global friends system. I know it's not terribly unique to this game, but SWTOR didn't have it and that was annoying.

But yeah - I'll so miss the costume creator. I really hope we at least get a way to get that working outside of the game. Sometimes just designing a character was half the fun.
