BrandX hit the unspoken problem on the head.

A good number of players in the game go out of their way to create names with double meanings; copy existing trademarked or copyrighted characters; or just plain by-pass the word filter.

The only way NCSoft would be able to avoid the inevitable lawsuit would literally require having to hire somebody's whose only job would be to sit at a computer and make sure that every name and costume used by such a system met with the content guidelines of officially produced content. NCSoft would be ultimately responsible for any infractions making it through into the game.

To go ahead and shut down another avenue of idea, AE is not an excuse to do this either. The developers can flat out stick a player created content sticker on AE and if anybody threatens a lawsuit, point to that boilerplate sticker saying an actual player did the infraction, it was not developer created or endorsed.

Such protections would not apply, in any way, shape, or form, if the development staff were to call up the data-base on players directly for content outside of AE.

I think the problem for US (CoH) players is that over here we have baseball and american football... while outside of our borders there is Cricket and Football / Soccer. Tends to create quite a cultural disconnect, combined with marketing companies eager to toss world-wide onto sports (E.G., World Series, but last time I checked Japan wasn't exactly invited to participate, and they've got a pretty good baseball system).

Anyways, for those who are used to Baseball and look at Cricket with complete and absolute confusion (like me), David Morgan Mar has a pretty good write-up of Cricket when compared to Baseball: http://www.dangermouse.net/cricket/

The effect of the power of the Alpha Slot, I believe as described by the developers, is that it should be the equivalent of adding a Single Original or Crafted IO origin enhancement to your power.

So if you power takes a standard Healing Single Origin Enhancement, then the Spiritual Radial Boost should act like a standard Single Origin enhancement in that power and give you the exact same effect that a standard Single Origin Enhancement would give you.

Well, except a Single Origin enhancement doesn't ignore E.D.

Alpha Slots... do. To an extent.

    ow...

Okay, I really didn't have anything to add to this thread except for the I don't understand cricket line of jokes. Yeah, I do think the Original Poster is well off his rocker for a variety of reasons, most of which I think have been addressed. That being said I'm not entirely sure the Original Poster understands what lipstick on a pig means, much less having a firm grasp of time.

Just because a game is old does not mean it is bad. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Valve (Steam) are still posting rather tidy profits from old games made available through their various download services. Games that were taken off the retail market years ago, like Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, still sell.

I guess I'm left wondering if the original poster really understands what they want or what they are asking for. If they want a new game because they don't like how CoH plays, well, why even say anything to Paragon Studios? All information so far suggests that if NCSoft decided to have Paragon Studios work on a CoH2 title, Paragon Studios will continue the game balance and mechanics already in the existing game. So if they want a different play experience, they aren't going to get it from Paragon Studios or NCSoft.

Updating this game isn't putting lipstick on a pig. Now, if the original poster really wants examples of putting lipstick on pigs, I'd be more than happy to give the forum moderators a list of examples they would no doubt have to delete.

If the original want a new game because they don't have anybody to play with... well, then there is the entire issue of they are in Australia, they are playing after midnight their time and before whatever time it is in the US. One of the... things... I tell new players to CoH is to spread out across servers. I tell new players not to get too hung up on being on just one server and having all their characters on that one server. Ergo, it's my opinion that if the original poster was even remotely interested in participating in the game's community, they should try different servers, see whose up when they are playing.

One of the facets of an MMO is that sometimes, believe it or not, content is designed for teams, and requires players to be online to run that content. I don't agree with the notion that everything should be solo-able. I think this point has been addressed already. Why would somebody play an MMO if they were not interested in forming a team and playing with other people.

Okay, in all fairness, MMO's can suffer from the availability of players. Real life events like the economy, school, national holidays, other video game releases, and so on, can have a dramatic effect on the visible population of any given game. While CoH does have a large number of casual gamers, hard-core games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby's Epic Yarn are still going to pull a visible portion of the player-base away. Then there's stuff like Call of Duty: Black Op's which will also put a dent in the number of CoH players.

From a long-point, this is why MMO companies generally don't base performance on the game on a narrow section of time. The indication has been that CoH is running a healthy number of subscribers, Going Rogue met sales expectations, Issue 19 made it out only a few months after Going Rogue, and so on and so forth.

Looking over the thread, I don't think I'm the only one that is genuinely confused by whatever viewpoint the original poster has. The impression I get is that the Original Poster has the same entitlement / I want it nao attitude that permeated that thread claiming the Incarnate System was an insult to skilled players.

you need to take this up with Nvidia.

Paragon Studios did nothing special (that we know of) to the game. Running in SLI was entirely an Nvidia driver tweak, as evidenced by those updating drivers and having SLI work before Issue 19 was launched or any other patches were made.

What you are experiencing is probably a bug in MIDS

Remember, MIDS is not an official Paragon Studios Product. It is developed and produced by community players. Just because MIDS says or presents one thing, does not automatically mean that what it presents is accurate or true for the game itself.

    Here's why: http://www.lotro.com/free.php?

LORTO had to change their base business model. Yes, LORTO has made that business model work. They offer a good quality product with relatively low entry costs compared to other games in the same genre that is saturated with competitors, one of the few places where going Free-to-Play can offer a market advantage.

They still failed at their original subscription model. Life-Time Subscriptions were still a very bad business move.

You guys think they should offer one? Would you guys buy into it? And, no, I don't think this game should ever go free-to-play.
Life-time subscriptions have universally been proven to be bad business operations for any MMO. Just think for a second what happened to the two most recent games that attempted to try and use the business tactic.

Avast and Avira are currently good choices, and I wouldn't fault anybody for using them.

For me, I prefer the Immunet spin on SourceFire's ClamAV: http://www.clamav.net/lang/en/about/win32/

Thing is though, an Anti-Virus can only protect you against known threats, and even then, it won't protect you against all threats. Tools like the aforementioned Spybot Search and Destroy will help close up other entry points that malware uses to enter the computer.

Then there is also the software you use to connect to the Internet. Microsoft's gained a lot of press on the upcoming IE9 since it (finally) is adhering to W3C specifications. I still wouldn't use it.

To connect to the internet, use Mozilla FireFox, Opera, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, KDE Konqueror... anything but IE... and your realistic exposure to malicious software is cut down.

That being said, there isn't much you can do about another vector point being leveraged these days, Adobe Flash. While there are Flash replacements such as GNU Gnash and Lightspark, Windows development isn't exactly a priority with code contributers.

  17. okay. I have good news and I have bad news. Well, two bits of bad news.

The first bit of bad news is: I will never tell anybody to use the Omega drivers. Whoever sold you on the idea of Omega drivers really did you a dis-service.

The good news, your particular chipset is actually supported by AMD's Mobile driver updates, and likely will continue to be supported for another 2 or 3 years.

The second bit of bad news is that AMD only does Mobile driver updates on Windows NT6... not NT5

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-32.aspx
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-64.aspx

    * * *
That being said, you aren't entirely S.O.L. without purchasing a copy of Vista or Win7 for your notebook.

AMD's desktop drivers for Windows Xp will still work on your laptop: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...eon_xp-32.aspx

You just need Mobility Modder: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php

    * * *

So, instructions from before still apply.

Run Driver-sweeper and get all of the existing driver files removed.

After running driver-sweeper, follow the instructions from Mobility Modder to install the updated graphics drivers.

    ... that's a bad thing.

That driver is probably way out of date and is doing more harm than good.

bleh. probably something screwy I did on my end creating it, or differences in MIDS versions.

Okay, here's the forum export version. As I said, it's just proof of concept, so the slots for each recharge set are keyed out, but I only grabbed the first IO in each set to identify each power for what set it is supposed to receive. Slots for each non-recharge power are not keyed out, so those are the ones that you'll probably want to sort through to get forms or other powers you want.

  20. to be fair, it's late and I'm tired... but... um... it's almost like you are responding to a thread that doesn't exist?

Okay, I think you are having a problem with a Lenovo Laptop that has an ATi / AMD chipset.

Something has happened with the drivers and for some reason or another you have lost control over your resolution?

Step one: gather information: We need to know what kind of AMD adapter you have, as well as your operating system version. Personally I prefer copies of CPUZ and GPUZ: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219502

Hyperstrike and others prefer CoH-Helper: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628

Step two: wipe current drivers and any residual drivers. Guru3D's driver sweeper will aid in clearing out any instances of older driver sets or corrupted driver sets: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Step three: after getting rid of all of the older driver data, install new drivers for your graphics chip. This is where we need to know what graphics adapter you have, and your OS version, so we can tell you the correct driver set to use.
